Transmission Problem 99 1500 4x4

Q: i went for a drive today and the tranny would not leave 1st gear. i went to the house pulled the dipstick and it was covered in rust scale and there was no fluid showing. added 2 quarts and still no shifting. no trouble until now. help 1999 1500 4x4 auto trans 55k miles 36 tires with 410 gears changed filter/fluid at 38000 per manual. .
