From : anonymous
Q: sorry for just jumping in without reading back to see if this is an old topic. flames accepted. grin my 1992 power ram 250 359 cummins lost overdrive yesterday. tranny fluid was a hair low so i filled it. no joy didnt really expect any as the fluid wasnt that low but now my brake/antilock dummy lights are on constantly... are the two somehow interconnected electrical problem all connections look damn near new. no corrosion worn wires or loose plugs. disconnected and reconnected everything... also i cant seem to locate a drain for the tranny. just tear off the pan hoping a fluid/filter replacement and band adjustment might help. i worked on a private golf course as a mechanic for many years and as a master mechanic in a manufacturing facility for even more so i have the basic skills but know absolutely nothing about the particulars of this truck. and nobody in my area has a service manual for sale... grrrrrrrr thanks in advance. .

replies in-line sorry for just jumping in without reading back to see if this is an old topic. flames accepted. grin my 1992 power ram 250 359 cummins lost overdrive yesterday. tranny fluid was a hair low so i filled it. no joy didnt really expect any as the fluid wasnt that low but now my brake/antilock dummy lights are on constantly... youve got one problem causing two symptoms are the two somehow interconnected electrical problem all connections look damn near new. no corrosion worn wires or loose plugs. disconnected and reconnected everything... if the vss vehicle speed sensor goes bad the transmission will not shift into 4th the 1-2 2-3 are hydraulically controlled but the ecm needs vss signal to determine when to go to 4th. the vss also feeds the abs system also i cant seem to locate a drain for the tranny. just tear off the pan hoping a fluid/filter replacement and band adjustment might help. i worked on a private golf course as a mechanic for many years and as a master mechanic in a manufacturing facility for even more so i have the basic skills but know absolutely nothing about the particulars of this truck. and nobody in my area has a service manual for sale... grrrrrrrr take it to a transmission shop one that does a lot of trucks preferably an independent operation not an aamco or the like explain it just as you have here and theyll figure it out; have them do a service while they have it its almost certainly not a transmission problem its a sensor problem that wont let the ecm see that youre going fast enough to shift it to 4th thanks in advance. no problem .
