hmm i get around a average of 21 mpg in city and highway in my 99. no matter how hard i push it. 5 speed helps a little but i doubt that much of a difference. says... i bought a used 96 dakota club cab 3.9 v6 with automatic nearly a year ago. the truck itself is close to being a cherry but the gas mileage sucks. the plug wires and dist cap appear to have been new when i bought the truck. when pulled the plugs also looked new. the cat rattled so i had it replaced. i put in new thermostat just in case. the air filter has been changed. the tires are properly inflated. the rear end gears are 3.5. i use 10w-30 oil. there are no trouble codes registering. the truck runs just fine even with 97000 miles on it. however the gas milage sucks. even though no codes were registering i took an uneducated guess and changed out the after-cat oxygen sensor. i drive it with a very light foot. before replacing the oxy sensor i was getting 12 to 12.5 mpg city. now after a new sensor i am getting 14-14.5 city. is this the best i can expect from this truck. what are others getting as city mileage with a simliar dakota. what cost effective measure can i take to try to up the mileage oldtimer thats about right. my friend gets about the same mileage with a pretty much identical dak. he really wishes he got a v8 since his trucks slow as hell. my hemi ram gets 11.5 or so around town and is a hell of a lot more fun.. bdk .

lawrence tnloaswpraemnmcien5g@earthlink.net writes moral of the story; code 43 problems can be a little difficult to isolate and correct. yep. misfires can be due to lack of spark lack of air or lack of/too much fuel. the systems arent good enough to detect which. if it occurs again a quick way to isolate the problem is to bleed the pressue from the fuel rail pull the fuse for the pump and run the engine till it dies or if you have a shrader valve on the fuel rail some years did some didnt you can bleed it with a pressure gauge then swap the #5 and #7 injectors. if the misfire moves to #5 youve found your bad injector. its b-a-a-a-a-c-k!!!!!! code 43 p0307 - cyl #7 misfire. took your suggestion and swapped 5 & 7 injectors about 3-4 weeks after your above post. even started using chevron gas. been fine for going on 4 months but it just came back. its cyl #7 again in spite of the injector swap. i am fresh out of ideas. .

i think that he was more concerned with the technicians attitude rather than the minor error and i would be as well. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving just got back from an oil change on my durango and noticed the dealer forgot to put the oil filter cover back. i had to go back and the technician unwillingly went to the garage and brought it out. i know its just a stupid plastic cover but the next week i am having both differentials serviced and my confidence is shot. how often do these experts forget to put the parts back how common is this do i need a six star dealer lac hmm what do you do for a living and what kind of mistakes do you make or can you turn your pencil over and erase yours or back space over them. .

icpenguin wrote 97 4x4 1500 ram 110000 miles i can be going straight down the road not turning at all and if i hit a bump about half the time i get a grinding noise coming from the right front of the truck. should i assume that it is the universal joint going bad or could there be something else causing the problem im not afraid to take on the job but is there a website that shows some good pictures on what to expect could be a bad brake caliper. my 96 makes a similar noise sometimes and with the wheel off you can see the caliper moving. not saying you have the same problem but it could be. mine started like yours in that it usually took a bumpy road to start it making that noise. now it makes the noise more often. one way to diagnose this is if the noise stops with slight pressure on the brake pedal. my first step once the weather warms up a bit is going to be to knock all the rust off of the rotor to see if that helps. i hope this information helps. george .

hello i have a 2001 dakota quad cab. the heater fan switch doesnt seem to work properly. i cant say the switch doesnt work because when i go to the off position to any of the speeds such as low med or high i can see the a/c light come on. this makes me think the switch works but it seems like the message isnt getting to the fan. the fan will only work on high speed. any clues on where i should start working... thanks steve .

yes thats where its leaking. i was told that i had to take the steering box off. if i dont have to thats great! maxpower wrote got a 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4 and the steering box is leaking. anyone ever have the problem and had to repair i bought a repair kit but have yet to tackle the job. any tips before i do it ----== posted via feeds.com - unlimited-uncensored-secure usenet ==---- http//www.feeds.com the #1 group service in the world! 120000+ groups ----= east and west-coast server farms - total privacy via encryption =---- whets leaking on it if it is the seal that is just above the pittman arm it is pretty easy to do that is what normally leaks. once you remove the arm and the lower c-clip just turn the steering wheel full to one side with a pan under the seal and most of the time the pressure will just pop it out. this makes it really easy. then put some lube around the seal to reinstall it. glenn beasley chrysler tech ----== posted via feeds.com - unlimited-uncensored-secure usenet ==---- http//www.feeds.com the #1 group service in the world! 120000+ groups ----= east and west-coast server farms - total privacy via encryption =---- .

thanks rw. thats more info than i had. we asked the dodge dealer but they knew nothing about it! rw wrote has anyone heard of a special truck that dodge is putting out called the ray evernham special my wifes best friends brother said he bought one. and he just wrecked on the last snow day after only the first payment. he claims the truck cost over $40k new. it has over $15k damage to the whole side. i have yet to see the truck. but what truck is he talking about ----== posted via feeds.com - unlimited-uncensored-secure usenet ==---- http//www.feeds.com the #1 group service in the world! 120000+ groups ----= east and west-coast server farms - total privacy via encryption =---- i saw one on ebay last year. the evernham package iirc it was mainly a painted interior bezels and new seats added about 13k to the sticker price. the final bid was about 38k and it didnt meet the reserve. ron w. ----== posted via feeds.com - unlimited-uncensored-secure usenet ==---- http//www.feeds.com the #1 group service in the world! 120000+ groups ----= east and west-coast server farms - total privacy via encryption =---- .
