oem hitch. i was shocked to see that even the hitch on a denali has a higher tongue weight rating - 1500 lbs. i certainly expected a much better hitch on a 3/4 ton truck. according to gmc.com the denali has a max tow capability of only 8100 lbs. .

i have a 97 dodge truck with a 5.9 liter engine and am looking for ways of getting better fuel economy - i have heard of but can not locate a computer chip that can increase the mileage of the truck. could anyone point me in the right direct as well as provide any other insites other than tire pressure - ac on or off - engine tune up steve when i had my 96 with a 5.9 keeping my foot out of the pedal and a cold air intake seemed to help...though im sure just a better filter would do you some good. if i remember right the cold air intake only gave me about 2mpg but it was enough to notice on a long trip. -chris .

i does look like km but if you think about it im sure the speedo dropped as they were sliding sideways. no way thay happened at that low of a speed. i can see the add now.. audi for sale low miles small dent in bumper half off... both front and rear halves available where did ya find those pics roy http//www.socalrider.net/2005/audivstree/ i honestly have no idea where they originally came from i got them on one of those fwfwfwfwfwfwfw type emails from a friend of mine. there was no information with the pix. about 20 minutes on google finds a little information on the pix... a lot of mention of 90kph. 54mph its amazing just how strong trees are. 54 mph and the car was ripped in half doesnt make sence to me ether. thats the only speed number i have found on this. im thinking that number came from the picture of the dash the speedo still says 90. when i was on the fd i worked a lot of accidents involving guard rails bridge pillars trees ect. on the interstate. never did i see a car torn like that one was. im guessing 54 is a low est. 90 sounds a little more like it. in one of the pix it shows the speedo frozen at 90... so its just a question of english or metric since it happened in portugal it is probably in kms. roy .

john wrote the trailer has a rated tongue weight of 1400 lbs. im assuming thats for the trailer empty. the trailer also has a 2.5kw generator mounted in a front locker two propane tanks and a 27 series deep cycle battery on the tongue and a 60 gallon water tank mounted foreward of the front axle. all are oe factory installed. even empty at 1400 lbs im over the rating for the oem hitch. im using a wd hitch with 1200 spring bars and a cam anti sway system. when i lessen the tongue weight by removing the two propane tanks the truck bounces. i understand the 800-1200 lb recommendation 10-15% but swaying isnt a problem. i have a class iv bolted hitch on my 99 2500 and the max weight trailer weight that i can pull is 10000# draw 1000# tongue weight distributing. i dont think your welded hitch is a liability. dodge says that you should have a gooseneck or 5th wheel to tow over 10000 lbs anyway. if your reading the rated tongue weight from the stamped lettering in the tongue section thats the maximum amount of weight allowed on the tongue component only regardless what kind of trailer that it gets welded to. its not the typical tongue weight of the trailer. the trailer certification placard should list the gvwr sometimes listed as gtwr for the trailer. the gvwr or gtwr is the gross vehicle trailer weight rating. its the max allowed weight of the trailer and everything in it. your truck has the same type of rating that can be found on the sticker inside the drivers door jamb. i recommend you find a scale in your area and find out the exact weights you have for the truck and trailer. see http//www.catscale.com/locator.shtml for cat scale locations. the last time i was on a cat scale it only cost me $9.00 for two weight readings. talk to the scale operator about what you want to do before beginning the weighing session so they know what you are up to. always weigh the truck full of fuel with driver. there is normally plenty of room to park a trailer temporarily during a weigh session so you dont have to make an extra trip home. cat scales have three sections on their scales. as you pull up on them they are sections 3 2 and 1. weigh the tow vehicle without the trailer hooked up first on sections 1 and 2 front axle on 1 rear axle on 2 trailer somewhere else in the parking lot. add the front and rear axle weight together. this is the unladen weight of the tow vehicle. now weigh the truck with the trailer attached packed like you are going on a trip spring bars set where you think they should be. be sure all water tanks and propane tanks are full and the generator and batteries are in place. you need the front and rear axle weight of the truck and the front/rear axle weight combination of the trailer. put the trucks front axle on section 1 rear axle of truck on 2 and both axles of the trailer on 3. take the front and rear axle weight of the truck with the trailer attached and add them together. this is the trucks laden weight. subtract the trucks unladen weight from this figure and you have the trailer tongue weight. add the tongue weight to the trailers weight section 3 on the scale and you have the trailers gross weight. the tongue weight of the trailer should be between 10%-15% of the trailer gross weight. if it isnt you need to do some adjusting. be sure to check the sticker on the drivers door jamb for gvwr gross vehicle weight rating and gawr front and rear front and rear gross axle weight rating. dont exceed any of these ratings. .

run codes check crank sensor well i fixed an overheating problem with a new thermostat!yaaa! truck started great int he morning but as soon as it warmed up it decided it did not want to start or so i thought. if i crank the starter and hold it it will eventually fire up. it does bang and ping irradically but then finally catches with a roar of the engine i popped the hood and heard an awful sound while it is idling crazily it is a load hissing noise that goes away once the engine calms down. there is also black smoke coming out of the tailpipe however it stops once the engine calms down and starts idling properly. i know this is long sorry. any suggestions on what to try pcv valve already checked -- posted using the http//www.autoforumz.com interface at authors request articles individually checked for conformance to usenet standards topic url http//www.autoforumz.com/dodge-96-1500-hard-start-ftopict128663.html visit topic url to contact author reg. reqd. report abuse http//www.autoforumz.com/eform.phpp=627444 .

sounds like youre describing the idle air control area.run a code check and find out if there are other problems causing it to idle low. i am getting a loud hissing from a rear port in the throttle body. any ideas on the cause of this hissing it is causing my 96 dodge 1500 v6 to start very hard. i restricted the air flow to this port upon one of the startups and it idled better. however it only worked on this one startup and i cant keep taking the filter off every time i crank the old girl. -- posted using the http//www.autoforumz.com interface at authors request articles individually checked for conformance to usenet standards topic url http//www.autoforumz.com/dodge-throttle-body-ftopict128812.html visit topic url to contact author reg. reqd. report abuse http//www.autoforumz.com/eform.phpp=628077 .

stephen harding wrote ramman@dodgecity.cc wrote definitely the fuel economy. my sons friend just got a new 05 ram 1500 qc hemi. bright fire engine red and 20 wheels leather interior. sharp looking truck. around town he claims he gets between 10 and 12 mpg depending on how he drives. hes only 21 so you know its mostly around 10. what ever happened to the multi-displacement option that was going to be available on the hemis it was supposed to disable 2 or 4 cylinders when running at a stable cruise then cut all the cylinders back in when power was needed. talk was something like 30 mpg during the small displacement phase. ive heard nothing more about it. did it go the way of the older cadillac attempt smh only used in the cars. but we should be seeing it in the next year on the trucks according to the gurus in auburn hills anyway. denny .

matco scanner borrowedsays it is in range.are you supposed to get sensor signal when running or just with key on both sensors are recognized with key on engine off.also i just replaced 02 sensor with a bosch 15704 parts store says 2 required but only has one no other wiring or evidence of tampering either by the way.anyway runs like a raped ape with the new 02 sensorso far i noticed the adaptive fuel logic was trying to deduct between -60 and - 90 and finally decided to try the 02 sensor as thevoltage upon last scan was 1.8 in either closed or open mode and reading rich the whole time it was running.all symptoms appear to be gone.thanks for the help guys.... msjne.9111$ns.1390@read1..atl.earthlink.net scott and barb crowley9@gate.net. wrote they seem tight although there is some up and down play.ive been told that is a good position for the firing of the injectors.what would you suggest for syncit doesnt seen to really make a difference although it seems to gain power when at +6. cam sensor synch is supposed to be zero. i think given that you get a weird read out on the crankshaft position sensor you should investigate that area. .

the steering box seems to have no adjustment screw on top like the older dodge truck i had. also i put on new tires & shocks at 43000 miles but its still the same. there is an adjuster nut there - but first you need to determine if the slop is in the steering box or the intermediate shaft. have someone grab hold of the coupler right at the steering box with a big pair of pliers. then while holding firm you try and turn the wheel. if the slop is still there its due to worn u-joints in the steering shaft. if everything is tight then the play is in the box. if its the shaft theres not much you can do but replace it. if its the box the adjuster nut is located in the center of the sector shaft cover plate on the top of the box opposite the pitman arm. its a lock nut around an allen-head adjuster screw. loosen the locknut tighten the adjuster screw then re-tighten the locknut. now you need to be careful not to apply too much preload via the adjuster - youll cause even more wear to the gear. i wouldnt go any more than 1/4 turn on the adjuster screw. .
