Q: if i understand the haynes manual correct the the castle nut should be 175 ft-lbs and the three knuckle bolts should be 125 ft-lbs correct on both counts - torque castle nut to 175ft.lbs. then if necessary advance it to line up the cotter pin hole. never loosen a castle nut to align the cotter pin - always go tighter. .

sounds normal. its a real 4x4 life axle not ifs. they drive like theyre supposed. not like a car or 2x4 truck. ive replaced most everything in the steering as the joints have worn out but you may have a ways to go. your truck is still low mileage in sorts. i had to rebuild my auto tranny at 122k miles. then the track bar then front steering as things went bad. mine now as 205k on it. midlant wrote ps how many miles do you have on yours and how is it running john 140k miles. the cummins runs excellent. im having steering wandering that no mechanic seems to be able to solve. three different dodge mechanics have looked at the front end and made many repairs. still wanders. .
