Too Many Miles???

From : trey

Q: i have a 99 dak 4x4 i drive it about twice a week now that i have a motorcycle. the truck has about 55000 miles on it. the truck runs great! a good indicator of what kind of miles they are is the brake petal. if its a lot of stop and go the brake will have some ware on it from using it a lot holding the truck in place in traffic. on tue 16 dec 2003 232543 -0500 konrad ostner konrad.ostner@sympatico.ca wrote im looking at a 2002 dodge dakota sport quad cab 4x4 with the 4.7ltr engine. it has approx 45000 miles on it. is that alot of miles for a vehicle that is 1 -2 years old i have been told its highway miles. in most cases id rather buy a high mileage used truck than a very low mileage one.. high usually indicates a lot of freeway miles low usually indicates stop and go driving and/or periods of non-use... a short 1 or 2 mile commute can be an engine killer because the engine is repeatedly shut down before it reaches operating temp... we got our 01 dakota in december 2001 with 20000 miles on it... we figured that someone else had done the early shakedown and bug fixes for us... mac .

you should be able to get the in-service date from a dealer with then vin number. that will give you a better idea on how many miles per year this vehicle has been driven. a 2002 could have gone into service in late 2001 early 2002 or even late 2002. obviously it makes a big difference on the miles per year calculation. personally when i buy used vehicles i try to get them with a least a few miles or one year left on the factory warranty. scott collins newcastle wa on tue 16 dec 2003 232543 -0500 konrad ostner konrad.ostner@sympatico.ca wrote im looking at a 2002 dodge dakota sport quad cab 4x4 with the 4.7ltr engine. it has approx 45000 miles on it. is that alot of miles for a vehicle that is 1 -2 years old i have been told its highway miles. in most cases id rather buy a high mileage used truck than a very low mileage one.. high usually indicates a lot of freeway miles low usually indicates stop and go driving and/or periods of non-use... a short 1 or 2 mile commute can be an engine killer because the engine is repeatedly shut down before it reaches operating temp... we got our 01 dakota in december 2001 with 20000 miles on it... we figured that someone else had done the early shakedown and bug fixes for us... mac .
