Tire question
From : budd cochranron mcneil
Q: ive got the older 318 in my truck so i know it better than you think. my point was you were exaggerating in a effort to cover up the possibility that the plowing wasnt a good idea with a dak. four is a reasonable number but i think it points to abuse in the form of plowing. we have at least two people in this group with snow plowing experience and possibly more. from what they have written in the past about their experiences there likely was abuse. sorry but its not the fault of dc. -- budd cochran snowplowing with a dakota tells you about all you need to know about the poster and his buddy a hundred thousand transmissions i think youre exaggerating a little. -- budd cochran actually it doesnt tell all you may need to know my buddys dakota is equipped with the 318 engine so its not lacking for power at all in fact the thing is pretty fast even with all the miles on it. as far as trannies go it had more like four put in and if anyone took 100000 seriously then that says a lot about that poster too imho. .

1998 ram 1500 318 4x4 od auto 3.551 gears slt extended cab 130k miles std. tires all stock. trans fluid/filter changed every 20-25k miles engine oil changed at 5k mile intervals tune-ups at normal intervals. currently driven daily for commuting 80 miles around dc beltway and in stop/go traffic about 6 trips coast to coast open road with several more to mid-west used for camping in mountains once or twice a year about 400 miles off road total and never driven hard fairy frequently haul up to 500 lbs never tow anything have only a cab height cap on the bed. replaced a speed sensor at 100k. the past few months at cruise speed 50 to 60 mph in top gear under light throttle the rpm may occasionally fluctuate by about 50 rpm dont notice it at higher speeds/rpm. sometimes a headwind or slight grade will bring this on. coincident with this behavior about 1 take-off in 10 from dead stop has rough shifts through first two ranges. dont notice any drop off in performance otherwise engine has always been slightly underpowered and changing plugs etc. doesnt change situation. no idiot lights but trans definitely isnt shifting normally and the rpm fluctuations while suggestive the engine wants to up-shift arent what i consider normal for this truck feels more like trans slippage. i am the original owner and only driver. thanks in advance for any advice. mole .

i have oem goodyears on my 02 dak qc 2wd and im learning they suck at foul weather traction. someone locally is selling some geolander ats privately they are a much more agressive tread pattern so i assume better traction ... the data my tires are p 255/65r16 not sure of load rating other tires are lt 245/75r16 load rating e q is tire size compatible will odo need adjusted will they fit on same wheels fine i suspect so thx aadt gurus - ron thanks for the replies pretty much what i suspected except that the caution of an overly rough ride is good to know i only expected to be told about more noise. and i took my tire size directly from the dealer sticker so being a p is why i couldnt find a load range. and ive had her pretty loaded with gravel and soil a few times... thx for the tips will now cogetate - ron .

wonder if there is a differance between the pc and palm versions other than the obvious o/s differance do they both have the same featureson fri 17 oct 2003 172515 gmt nirodac nirodac@hotmail.com wrote actually there are a number of different ones available depends on what you want out of your scan tool. i sort of like this one cause if i understand the promo correctly you get both a palm and a pc version for the same price. i could be wrong though. some scan tool software is fancy with charts and the choice of digital or analog gauges displayed and even the number of gauges displayed in a gui type environment. some is more simple and basic. prices are adjusted accordingly. the real option you need to look at is. can they read the error codes beyond the federally mandated first 1000 codes in other words the codes specific to a given manufacturer. the first 1000 codes are common across all manufacturers and will usually be all you will need they cover all the way up to 12 cylinder engines. the next thing you need to look at is the interface module. gm and ford have their own proprietary signal coming from the ecu. chrysler and everyone else uses the same one iso. usually for about $50.00 dollars more you can get all three. you cannot plug your computer into the ecu directly. the product at this site covers the extended error codes for ford gm and chrysler but not foreign named vehicles and some big two imported vehicles. please note that i have no connection to this site nor have i every bought anything from them i am interested in their product as i am with scan tools from other vendors. and by the way this site provides a free letter sales tool which just happened to have a description of the other posters engine problem. id like to see some dialog in this ng from other people that have purchased a scan tool and see what they think. i definitely will be getting one i just have decided which one. i still have three years left on my three year auto warranty so im not in a hurry. and the web site is; http//www.autotap.com/ ray i missed the first part of this post. where can i get one of the scan tools you are talking about i see how you got to the ignition coil as the culprit from that article. my mind blanked out that paragraph when i read the final cause of the authors problem. so your right the scan tool would have picked up the problem right at first. i like this model because it comes in two version one for the palm pilot and one for the pc. palms are getting so cheap you could leave it in the glove box as did the writer of that article. thanks ray ray im still gonna get one of those scan tools it would have told me it was the coil not the injector. and its cool too...hehe on tue 14 oct 2003 054230 gmt nirodac nirodac@hotmail.com wrote glad to hear you fixed your problem so much for the after market scan tools. ray well turns out it was a bad coil pack and plugs they wanted 178.00 to install...lol. no thanks just give me the parts.on sun 12 oct 2003 141949 gmt toddd darinzo@optonline.net.invalid wrote now if i could just detrmine why the misfireing on the # 3 cylinder. ciolpackinjecteror bad plug intake manifold leak can definitely cause misfires .

ok sounds simple enough... do you have to lift the engine or anything ... is this a 2 hour with the right tools and 4 hours with the wrong tools. you make this sound like it is pretty easy. also this is a 4x4 dont know if that matters. thanks -- what is the process to replace a oil pump in a 1995 dakota with v6 drain oil remove oil pan remove oil pump replace oil pump replace oil pan replace oil ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .

transurgeon wrote once more the federal government could do nothing until the local and state governments requested it to do something but the local and state officials refused to admit they were in over their head i heard the local officials saying they needed 24 hours to think about it before declaring a disaster. yep probably hoping things get better .

that sounds like a manual transmission to me. this issue only applies to automatics. tom lawrence wrote by the way - he does realize theres a brake interlock solenoid that only lets the trans shift out of park when the brake pedal is depressed is that on all year models normally on cold days i just open the door reach inside and pull the shifter into neutral and start the truck up. let it run a few minuets before i even get inside. jerry .

interesting... my 01 ram i dont have to push the brake pedal down. never had to from day 1 bought it new. yup - its something they added in 03. ill bet the 02 1500s with autos are like that as well. .

i assumed it was 2wd. did i miss something denny wrote i cant recommend anybody but dont forget youre going to have to change the carrier in the front diff also. it is a different offset from the 3.55 to the 3.92. the rear uses the same carrier for both ratios. denny i was wondering if anyone could recommend a good massachusetts installer for upgrading my differential gearing going from 3.55 to 3.92. i seem to be having trouble locating a shop that specializes in drivetrain type of work. thanks erik .

spam@mcneildesigns.bc.ca says... the data my tires are p 255/65r16 not sure of load rating other tires are lt 245/75r16 load rating e q is tire size compatible will odo need adjusted will they fit on same wheels fine i suspect so the 245/75s will be a few per cent taller and will affect your spedo reading accordingly. whether you have it recalibrated or just make mental adjustments is up to you. they optimally fit on 7 rims and you probably have 8 rims but they will fit okay. the p in your originals indicates they are for passenger use and implies softer sidewalls and closer attention to roundness and balance for a smooth ride. passenger tires usually dont have a letter load range associated but you might consider these approximately b or c for comparison purposes. the lt in the tires you are considering indicates they are for light truck use which implies stiffer sidewalls for load carrying. iirc load range e is the highest range available in that size about equal to the old 10 ply rating. i suspect that the lt245/75s will ride noticably rougher than you are accustomed to. in my opinion they are better suited to the larger ram 1500 and unless you haul a lot of weight or tow a large trailer often you should look for softer tires. .
