Tire Rotation for a dually

From : tim miser

Q: i just performed my first tire roation for my 03 3500 last weekend and got to wondering if its really necessary. it sure is a lot of work! the tire rotation recomendation is to swap the front tire with the opposite side inner rear tire and the outer rear tires just swap places with each other which is really the only possible way to do it. i think the outer rear tires wont wear at the same rate as the inner rear/front tires so my tire replacement in the future will be all out of wack. im thinking it would be better to not rotate the tires thus keeping the 4 rear tires together and wearing at the same rate while the front tires wear at their own rate. with the heavy load of the cummins on the front tires and the lighter shared load on the drive wheels just maybe all 6 tires will wear close to the same rate by not rotating. any thoughts theories or suggestions welcomed! -tim .

what joe said is the recommended rotation pattern in the 98 owners manual. been doing it every 7500 miles and yeah its a lot of work - but the tires are all going to wear out at the same time. tread depth on all of them are running the same. and yeah they forgot the spare ;- when i replace the 6 road tires will the spare have to be replaced due to dry rot and no i just cant see white letters on a dually. just dont look right. greg on mon 25 aug 2003 232406 -0500 joseph myers joemyers@ev1.net wrote i rotate mine front to outside rear outside rear to inside inside to opposite front. works for me good even wear for a 4x4 3500. joe on mon 25 aug 2003 163215 -0700 tim miser timmiserno@spmyahoo.com wrote i just performed my first tire roation for my 03 3500 last weekend and got to wondering if its really necessary. it sure is a lot of work! the tire rotation recomendation is to swap the front tire with the opposite side inner rear tire and the outer rear tires just swap places with each other which is really the only possible way to do it. i think the outer rear tires wont wear at the same rate as the inner rear/front tires so my tire replacement in the future will be all out of wack. im thinking it would be better to not rotate the tires thus keeping the 4 rear tires together and wearing at the same rate while the front tires wear at their own rate. with the heavy load of the cummins on the front tires and the lighter shared load on the drive wheels just maybe all 6 tires will wear close to the same rate by not rotating. any thoughts theories or suggestions welcomed! -tim .

i dont do white letters. joe on tue 26 aug 2003 200050 gmt tim miser timmiser@nospamyahoo.com wrote the problem with that is the white lettering is only on one side of the tire so to go from front to outside rear you have to turn the wheel around and then youll have lettering on the rears and not on the front or vice versa unless you remove the tire from the rim and remount it. -tim i rotate mine front to outside rear outside rear to inside inside to opposite front. works for me good even wear for a 4x4 3500. joe on mon 25 aug 2003 163215 -0700 tim miser timmiserno@spmyahoo.com wrote i just performed my first tire roation for my 03 3500 last weekend and got to wondering if its really necessary. it sure is a lot of work! the tire rotation recomendation is to swap the front tire with the opposite side inner rear tire and the outer rear tires just swap places with each other which is really the only possible way to do it. i think the outer rear tires wont wear at the same rate as the inner rear/front tires so my tire replacement in the future will be all out of wack. im thinking it would be better to not rotate the tires thus keeping the 4 rear tires together and wearing at the same rate while the front tires wear at their own rate. with the heavy load of the cummins on the front tires and the lighter shared load on the drive wheels just maybe all 6 tires will wear close to the same rate by not rotating. any thoughts theories or suggestions welcomed! -tim .
