Throttle Body cleaning?
From : miles
Q: my 2000 dodge ram 1500 has a similar problem.shifts from 1st to 2nd ok. bangs into 3rd wont shift into 4th until 55 mph. shottenkirh dodge in quincy il. worked on it for 3 months and gave it back and said they couldnt fix the problem. little jess dodge in edina had it for 6 weeks and gave it back in the same condition. good luck on yours. i just live with it. when it shifts out of 2nd it quits pulling...like its in neutral.....but if you hold the gas to the floor then itll shift ..but when you let up it wont kick into overdrive.......when you first put it in gear ..it pulls but it dont shift until you hit a high rpm........has anyone else had a problem like this................id appreciate any advice ...ive been working on this for 2 days............thanks and god bless.. .

the only thing that needs to be cleaned on a tb that cannot be done well by simply aiming some everyday carb cleaner in there is the iac plunger. if done carefully and without cycling the key this can be accomplished by the average mechanic in about 30 minutes. -- max give a man a match and he is warm for a short while. light him on fire and he is warm for the rest of his life. had my 2001 ram 5.9l in for some work and the dealer gave the usual list of things i need to pay them for! they said the throttle body needs to be cleaned. their charge is $200. they said its that high because they remove it for cleaning. truck has 66k on it and runs fine. is this something that needs to be done routinely and does it really take that much labor .

no they are not the same thing. the tb or throttle body controls the amount of air entering the intake manifold. yup. a tb spacer fits between the throttle body and the manifold with the idea of smoothing out the airflow perhaps but more likely its to add length to the intake tract in an effort to get more low end torque. not that it always works thta way. smoothing air flow by adding a second mating point seems a bit odd. better idea is to use something that will produce laminar air flow which could be added with the spacer but usually is not. into the intake for better fuel atomization and allowing more air to get into the cylinders. atomization perhaps yes. more air into the cylinders nope. as you just said the tb regulates that not the spacer. while the tb regulates air flow that flow is ultimately limited by the efficiency of the intake system as well. the spacer as you said increases the length which should but not always increase air speed and reduce turbulence which should get more air into the cylinders. so the law of negative entropy kicks in and longer piping = less resistance why do you think that they are said to increase lower end torque debatable or not its a proven fact that longer intake runners increase low-end torque just as 3 % / 2 % = 150 % ultimately the spacer is a debatable add on but a cheap experiment. agreed. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

they cleaned the tb on my wifes car claiming that it was the cause of her car running poorly but all that it accomplished was to clean our my wallet. they said that the one in my ram also needed to be cleaned 50000 miles ago and i laughed at them. it still runs fine and still gets 16 mpg at speeds in excess of 80 mph at times. unless the engine stalls when you take your foot off the gas or has a hesitation or sag when you just start pressing the accelerator you probably dont need the t/b cleaned. at 80 mph the throttle plates are way past caring if the bore is dirty.. g denny .

thats not to bad certainly not what i expected. ive seen the literature on the jacobs brand. any others thats the only one thats warranty-approved for whatever thats worth but ive always ben partial to pacbrake. the big downer for me about the jacobs is that it uses a vacuum pump to activate it. while that in itself isnt a big issue the fact that the vacuum pump mounts in the accessory drive and therefore requires a special longer serpentine belt could make emergency replacement an issue. the solution here is to get two belts at the time of install and keep one under the seat. bd power and banks are also popular choices for exhaust brakes. .

before the warranty 60000km expired 1. paint peeled off front bumper. im calling bs here. paint and body are covered for 12k only. if you got it fixed under warranty thats a good thing and commendable action on dcs part. what does this have to do with the price of tea in china it still pealed of which is not exactly a sign of quality. 2. seals in a/c were replaced. so sounds like cheap rubber seals to me. 3. transmission shift linkage replaced. more bs. exactly how did it get broken this is a dealer prep check item if it broke you broke it. lol now you are the one giving bs. dealer prep item lol!!! that doesnt mean they actually even looked at it and how exactly did he break it 4. front upper ball joints replaced. finally an issue that is real. and they replaced them under warranty. sounds like everything went right on this issue. dealer told me it would take awhile to get all the bugs out. and thats possible as it is with all mechanical devices. really how many time have you brought your vehicle back to work out these bugs. sounds to me like even the dealer saw this particular vehicle as a lemon. after the warranty had expired 1. battery replaced 4 years old normal wear item at 4 years so friggin what 2. waterpump so its not unheard of at 60k plus. that is still a fairly short time for a failure. sounds like dc trying to save a buck at the customers expense again. 3. both wheel bearings. both which ones were they maintained properly 4. y pipe on exhaust. i smell abuse of vehicle..... please explain. 5. cruise control stopped working electronics fail anytime they want. lol especially when they are made from sub-standard parts. 6. front rear seal on transmission what you called it does not exist. normal seepage is not a leak. how bad was it what exactly is normal seepage. i never see so much as a drop under either my wifes intrepid or my 240sx which is a relic compared to his vehicle. 7.flimsy dodge box liner warps when sun shines on it. so get a real one. dodge didnt design nor manufacture the box liner. its not a dc issue. bs. they were the ones who installed it for top dollar they should be responsible for what they sell although this may be a dealer specific screw-up. 8. transmission pan rusted out. bullshit. 9. transfer case leaking fluid. normal seepage or draining on the ground what do you call normal seepage 10. seat belts wont retract. and theres no user problems there why is everything he has a user problem ive done the recommended maintenace on this lemon since day one. i use this truck to travel to work and have never had it off road. the few times ive used it to go on a trip never over 1000km something major has gone wrong. i think you are full of shit. your list screams of someone being too picky while abusing the vehicle. at least one problem couldnt happen. if you had these many problems with your vehicle i think that you would develop a similar attitude. with the exception of the pos rear axle and the now pealing paint my truck has done very well for me. every company is capable of producing a lemon hell that is the definition of ford -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

what could the dent in the tailgate have to do with all that a dented tailgate nothing. however you might have also hit something with the rear axle and damaged the wiring to the speed sensor. check out the wiring and connector that goes to the sensor on the top of the rear differential. .

while the tb regulates air flow that flow is ultimately limited by the efficiency of the intake system as well. by the time the air flow gets to the cylinder runners in the typical mopar manifold the tb is long past being the cause of turbulance. too much has happened to the air by that point to blame the tb for the turbulance. however inducing a laminar flow at that point can ease some of the rough trip ahead. the spacer as you said increases the length which should but not always increase air speed and reduce turbulence which should get more air into the cylinders. why do you think that they are said to increase lower end torque debatable or not the volume of air in the cylinder will always be the same. again the tb spacer is so far upstream as to have little effect on the engine itself. changing the tb may have an effect but from what ive seen read heard etc most times a larger tb drops low end torque and boosts hp. money is better spent on intake manifolds be it a better one or simply porting and port matching on the stock one. -- max give a man a match and he is warm for a short while. light him on fire and he is warm for the rest of his life.
