The Return of the Check Engine Light
From : jmc
Q: check all vapor vent hoses going from the gas tank to the charcoal canister and from there up to the engine compartment. the rubber hoses often split open from age. sometimes the canisters plastic hose fittings can crack as well. one of these seems to happen on mine every year. its been an ongoing battle to keep that system working. on the bright side it normally wont effect drivability. its only to lower emissions. jmc wrote i had been getting an engine code p0422 if i remember correctly for some little while. i didnt bother resetting the computer after the second time and it started including p0455. per the advice i read all over the net i replaced the gas cap thanks mike! well that was a little bit ago i finally got around to resetting the computer on friday this is england its been a bit wet and cold. thats my excuse and im stickin to it! anyway this morning the check engine light came back on showing p0455 again which i understand translates to a large evaporative emission control system leak has been detected. before i trust my dakota to the chrysler/jeep dealer they dont sell dakotas here is there anything i can check for if there was really a large leak wouldnt there be symptoms what i havent noted anything unusual in how the dragons been running cept i think the gas mileage is a bit poorer than normal but that could just be the driving conditions here. .

i just came across the website for a video called hunting for bambi. from the looks of it it seems to be a low-brow stab at the oln/playboy genres of cable networks but also comes across as a misogynist celebration of gun culture. does anybody have any insight or opinions as to what else it could be construed as the preview is on www.teambambi.com .

i have a 2003 sprinter with the mercedes diesel engine. last winter im in minnesotai had no problems with gelled fuel. this year its in the shop today for the third time to be warmed and started. i blamed the first two times on bad blended fuel but this time i dont get it. i put in power service emergency anti gel topped off the fuel tank with a grade of diesel that claims its good to 36 below it was 20 below today. it was cold over the weekend 15 below and the truck started and ran fine until today monday. any suggestions out there anybody believe in-line heaters if the fuel filter works ok in normal temps does that mean it doesnt need replacing i mean would a fuel filter be the problem even if it works ok in temps above cloud point any input would be appreciated. thanks! .

on mon 17 jan 2005 122529 +0000 utc all of a sudden yar raybright@btclick.com exclaimed hi i have not seen the rest of this thread but i live in the uk as well and have a dodge ram. i have a problem with the engine light flickering and wondered if this was you problem as well if so anything you have found out would be helpful. thanks ray you brought a ram to the uk braver than me the dakotas about as big a vehicle id bring to drive the backroads here... my engine light doesnt flicker it just comes on and stays on. not sure what a flicker would mean. i thought that any code would cause the light to stay on until reset but i could be wrong about that. do you know how to check the engine code with the engine off click it on just to power not to engine off on off on. after a moment the odometer should show any engine codes. wait until it cycles through possible multiple codes. when it is finished or if there are no codes itll say p done. im guessing since this works on my dak itll work on your ram but that may be dependent on what year it is - mines a 2001. as mentioned p 0422 and apparently p0455 often mean just a loose or damaged gas cap. i replaced mine but unfortunately that didnt fix it. im told by a regular here that its nothing to worry about more to do with us federal emissions standards than any real malfunction. and that it wont affect how my truck functions in any way. if you get any codes im sure if you google them and/or post them here youll find out if theyre serious or have a simple fix. jmc usenet at jodi dit ws any day you learn something isnt a total waste. .

tom before i would consider the addition of duals i would investigate the cause of your combos instability. a 2500 w/v-10 and tt pkg should tow your 27 tt quite nicely. is your tongue weight correct with respect to overall tt weight are you using a load equalizing hitch are you using some sort of sway damping device are your tire pressures correct is your tt loaded properly all these and more! will contribute to an unstable combo. with regard to the high price of diesel fuel it is a seasonal thing since diesel is now competing with home heating oil for refinery capacity. as soon as spring arrives i suspect you will see diesel prices drop significantly. hope this helps!! chryco service manager member sae ok here goes i want the dual wheels for pulling a 27 foot tt with slide to obtain more stability when towing which is about all i use the truck for. not worried about weight hauling as much as more stability. yes it is a v-10 and allready has a tow package. thought of trading it in on a diesel 3500 till i got a load of the price of diesel fuel now. what a rip. they see that ppl are going to diesel so they raise the price. i guess thats how it is when your low on the food chain. yeah i know that just happens to be a fluke and im nuts. anyway thats what i want to put on the dual wheels for stabillity. thanks for the replys tom i am interested in putting dual wheels on my 1999 2500 4x4 has anyone here done this are there kits available im shure you wouldnt be interested in why so ill leave that alone. i was told there were adtapters available at one time but i cant find anything on that as of yet. anyway any help is appericated thanks tom .

the evaporative emission code indicates a large leak it is not a raw fuel leak but a vapor if there was really a large leak wouldnt there be symptoms what the symptoms would be check engine lamp on!!! if it were a really large leak and that is anything over .040 inch you could smell some vapors. the proper way to diagnois it is to have the dealer perform a smoke test of the system its a machine that injects smoke into the vapor recovery system to detect leaks. it has not affected engine performance glenn beasley chrysler tech i had been getting an engine code p0422 if i remember correctly for some little while. i didnt bother resetting the computer after the second time and it started including p0455. per the advice i read all over the net i replaced the gas cap thanks mike! well that was a little bit ago i finally got around to resetting the computer on friday this is england its been a bit wet and cold. thats my excuse and im stickin to it! anyway this morning the check engine light came back on showing p0455 again which i understand translates to a large evaporative emission control system leak has been detected. before i trust my dakota to the chrysler/jeep dealer they dont sell dakotas here is there anything i can check for if there was really a large leak wouldnt there be symptoms what i havent noted anything unusual in how the dragons been running cept i think the gas mileage is a bit poorer than normal but that could just be the driving conditions here. any help appreciated! jmc usenet at jodi dit ws any day you learn something isnt a total waste. .
