check your u-joints..... sounds odd but i just replaced one that was a mystery squeaker and the noise was gone. good luck! jmc wrote 2001 dakota slt 4x4 its developed this little squeak like something needs oil when backing. its not the brakes or brake warning i think since the noise isnt happening when i apply the brakes. generally it squeaks once like a door opening squeeee then stops. it may be related to turning sharply as i only notice the squeak when backing out of the carport. its coming from the back end somewhere. its not very loud i only hear it when ive got the window rolled down. ive tried the brake setting procedures driving forward/back and braking sharply but no change. is this just one of those sounds older trucks pick up over time or something that should be investigated what might it be jmc .

craig c. wrote ive touched on this subject before because i knew it wouldnt be long before the brakes started squeeling. well that time has finally come. i plan to have a complete brake job done. new pads and rotors all the way around. so a couple of questions 1 are vented rotors really the way to go or are the positive things i read simply a marketing ploy drilled and slotted rotors are simply for looks and will actually decrease braking performance by decreasing surface contact area. just have your stock rotors resurfaced and youll be fine and it will save you money. 3 is there a particular brake type i need to prevent squeeling it seems that everytime i have had a brake job done in the past the new pads always squeel whereas the oem pads never did. use a ceramic pad. they sqeal but at such a high frequency that humans cant hear it. be carefull as some ceramic pads are not recommended for towing. 4 any other suggestions very carefully follow the instructions for properly bedding the pads. -- .bob arrived 2006 fxdi red. 1997 hd fxdwg - turbocharged stolen 11/26/05 in denver 1hd1gel10vy3200010 co license j5822z 2001 dodge dakota qc 5.9/4x4/3.92 1966 mustang coupe - daily driver 1965 ffr cobra - 427w efi damn fast. in a word raybestos. more expensive than the economy pads and worth it. imho anyway ken .

i was assuming a cooling system flush was always a chemical flush where you flush it out with a special cleaner the shops around here all generally charge around $100 for a flush but when i asked the shop that i chose to use a shell station if its chem. flush he said no thats about $20 more $120. he said which one you want... i said i dont know which one i need. i told him its been around 4 years since the the last drain/replace....then he quickly looked inside opened the cap for 1 second and said youre fine just get regular flush. so i did that. whats your opinion on this is a non-chem flush really any different than a drain and replace he said yes because it drains it from the engine block as well as from the radiator. thanks. bro ya sorta lost me here. how does a chemical added to the flush change where the water is drained from maybe im wrong but a flush ya open everything. roy .

the engine light came on & stayed on yesterday on a 2000 ram with a 5.9 ltr engine.one thing the mech said to check was how tight the gas cap was on.everything is running fine with all fluid levels up to par.should i worry & take it in or just wait and see.the light is not flashing it just stays on...bob i had a 2001 ram 1500 and that happened to me. replaced the gas cap gasket and all was well. -- --scott hendryx-- .
