budd net nanny told me you could have made this on topic since it provides justification to drive a 4x4 ram in snowstorms! - greg on sun 21 nov 2004 143615 gmt budd cochran mr-d150@citlinkspam.net wrote got back in last night from phoenix and the return trip was the thrill of a lifetime. we hit light snow as we got closer to monticello ut going north on us 191 which became heavy snow / slush / ice as we hit the town proper. the thrill came when i discovered that a nighttime snowstorm down a hill in a sporty front wheel drive with performance type tires with a 700 pound trailer on back driving on wet snow and ice is not the time to discover the combined vehicles handling characteristics. but we somehow managed to miss everything kept it fairly straight then we all checked our undies at the next stop. . . . . budd .

my problem is that i have twin boosters mounted behind and underneath the driver on the frame. and they are not mounted on the mc as done traditionally. and four wheel disk is way out of the question although would be really great. muter home is on a 2 ton dually chaise and do not really care to change all the leaf springs axles ect.. but i appreciate the advise mark standerfer ii wrote i have a 64 taveco motor home on a 63 dodge truck chaise and am having problems with the brake system. question is it possible to update the entire brake system to something more modern. instead of having the traditional brake booster master cylinder combination up at the brake pedal assy. there are a set of twin bake boosters back along the frame on the drivers side. can all this be replaced with a traditional booster/cylinder system reply to yohanus@dslextreme.com please yes and no. the question is not can it be done but how much do you want to spend usually the brake booster was placed under the floor to save space under the hood. in later years dodge solved that by mounting the mc/booster at right angles to the firewall and used a bell crank for actuation. start by looking in the street rod catalogs. youll find all kinds of cool parts there to solve all kinds of problems. you may want to keep the booster where it is but change the pedal set up. theres also a remote booster available that can be mounted just about anywhere you want. however you may find that the mc/booster is pretty efficient and spending big bux to modernize it wont change much. focus on a 4 wheel disc arrangement with multiple caliper pistons. vented discs with proper cooling ducts and carbon fiber pads will make a huge improvement; especially on those long down hill slides. -- ..bob 1997 hd fxdwg - turbocharged! 2001 dodge dakota qc 5.9/4x4/3.92 1983 gmc jimmy - mountain beater 1966 mustang coupe - daily driver 1966 ffr cobra - ongoing project .

tbone wrote what do you think the 4 wheel drive is for miles the truck is already heavy enough. the problem is that most of the weight is not over the drive wheels. when you engage the 4 wheel drive that problem is instantly solved. what complete bull! with your logic all anyone needs is a front wheel drive truck. weight over the drive wheels right adding weight over the rear axle increases the traction for the rear. its 4 wheel drive not just 2 wheels with the most weight drive. i drive extensively in deep snow. weight in the back helps considerably. why do i even bother! .
