Q: is this bait or can you not afford one either its not bait and on my disability no i cant afford one. what does that matter of course its a different motor. why would they make the same thing having to change spark plugs ever 5000 miles or waiting for the thing to die from a lousy idle speed or tearing up the transmission cause the torque was too much for it. lol now where did you hear all this garbage but well take a look at it anyway first lets get one thing clear 99% of all the street driven late version hemis were not driven just to the grocery and to church by little old ladies. with only rare exceptions the majority were driven by persons under 40 most were driven hard usually raced 3-5 times a week on the street and most ended up destroyed in accidents or cut out of a wreck only to be dropped into a legal drag racing car. so much for there being many of them driven normal right spark plugs ya got your hot range plugs in because you have to drive it daily to afford it. some clown pulls alongside in his shovit-a-ways reads the hemi logo and signals for a drag from the light. you nod and when the light goes green you dust him . . . .but those hot heat range plugs are burning up due to the stress of the impromptu race. ya gety home and pop in the fourth set this week and its only wednesday. if you try to run your saturday night cold plugs you foul them in no time. fuel distribution even with 2 four barrels was not the hemis strong point. add the weak stock intake valve stem seals and you have your reason for the plug changes. otoh i did know of one hemi back then that never fouled a plug in 18000 miles. it was a propane converted. propane distributes much better than gasoline. idle speed we had a term back then called the golden screwdriver. it wasnt an award it was a curse. if i had a buck for every carb ive had to reset because some dork decided he could make 300 more hp by just a little turn of the mixture screw i could have customized my old truck. with two carbs the hemi was a golden screwdriver experts dream. fyi about the same time another engine was catching flack over its induction system. why the same reason below average mechanics messing with a system they didnt understand. it was the 60s chevrolet ramjet mechanical fuel injection. powerful 375 hp/327 cubes efficient i remember one getting 26 mpg in a 64 vette and dependable the same unit never gave any trouble in over 80000 miles but darn near every vette owner just had to tinker with it. btw most of the street hemis also had mechanical valve adjusters and many owners would forget to adjust them . . . bad running stalling poor idle quality. transmission failures lets include rear axles and get them out of the way first; the original hemis came with the 8.75 axle which is quite strong and held up well on the street . . it just couldnt handle modified engines and 5000 rpm starts. so mopar went to the dana 60. nearly eliminated axle probs. the manual four speed the 833 was improved to handle the higher output and held up well in most classes. the torqueflite was beefed up as well. put a t-flite or 833 from a non-hemi application in and it was only a matter of time before it would let go. i like the new hemi. 16 spark plugs seamed to have solved plug fouling problems the new speed auto transmission works really nice even while pulling a 5th wheeler and its still got allot of power to fuck with the inferior chebys and fords out there. ive got 80k on mine now and havent had it die at an intersection yet. fuel injection improved fuel distribution which reduced fouling / burning. put f.i. on a 426 hemi and it doesnt screw up plugs any more. isnt this what im saying just in more technical terms point being the new hemi is maitenance free basically as compared to the dinosaur hemi. but they both got lousy gas mileage....in mopar nuthing changes when it comes to gas.... well it does have the aerodynamics of a truck and not a neon right drive over 55 mph and that truck shape hurts your mileage more than the higher engine speed does. i say sour fucking grapes....you pico commi anti-new hemi bastards!!!! my my. such language!!! i never said i hated the engine buster. i said it was not a true hemi and it isnt. got it for a 345 ci motor and 345 hp of course it doesnt perform like the 500hp older models... so in 1954 a 331 cube original style hemi cranked out 331 hp without all your fancy electronics and such. iow its been done before itll be done again. who cares i dont and i have. you seem to care do you have one i didnt think so.... so killfile me mister. if i remember correctly hemi ownership is not required for anyone to be a part of this group. besides my lebaron has a 3.0l ohc v-6 hemi under the hood with true half-spherical combustion chambers. you had me going until you mentioned thi

on thu 7 oct 2004 jay wrote got a 96 dodge ram van 250. its a 3 speed no overdrive. i doubt that very much. are you sure theres not an o/d off button on the dashboard thats pressed and you just didnt notice it the engine runs way too fast on the highway it consumed 4 quarts of oil in 800 miles on a highway run at 65-70 mph. the engine speed is not connected with the oil consumption. if your engine consumed or lost 4 quarts of oil in 800 miles you either have a whipped engine or a large leak. .

didnt learn a thing from roy did ya what was there to learn exactly what magic allows the lightning to do what the srt10 cant i am still waiting for a valis answer. well tom why do you think you could miss a valid answer that roy myself and anyone with good mechanical skills and / or race experience can see as usual no actual answer just spin and bs. if it was really this easy then why didnt ford do it answer - because it isnt so easy. you keep claiming to have good mechanical skills but posts like this put that in serious doubt. this is not some bone stock f150 where the mods roy suggests would have serious impacts. ford already did many of the things that roy suggested which got the truck to where it currently is and there is not much room for further improvement without serious modifications to engine internals drive train components and the chassis itself. nope ya didnt. well ya cant blame it on me this time. sorry budd but the only one not learning anything is you. if roy thinks that it is so cheep and easy prove it. he has one make it do it. more denial . . .tom i not only understood but i have seen the results of changes just like roy said. lol yea budd on a stock vehicle not a factory upgraded performance one like this. this really shows your true lack of understanding and reasoning or modern design. do you really think that ford didnt take all of the ideas that you and roy had into account such as wind drag when they made their changes to this model. do you and roy really think that their engineers would miss the things that a couple of backyard mechanics on a group would think of. iirc it does have an air dam and unlike the aftermarket crap i bet it was designed for a specific purpose on the lightning. two sources with mechanic and race experience and youre calling us liars. please budd i probably fixed more cars than you have. exactly how much race experience do you have because with what you are saying it seems like little if any. btw i am not calling either of you liars. i am just saying that you are wrong in this case. well actually im saying that roy is wrong since you have yet to say anything of value. can the lightning be modified to beat the ram sure it can but there is no free lunch. if you try and do it on the cheep it is either not going to work or it will be breaking down a lot. if you do it the right way you can easily spend the 15000 on engine trans brake and chassis mods to both beat the ram and keep it uasble. ford knows this thats why they are taking a year off to do it right. doesnt speak well for you at all. please budd with the ass you have been making out of yourself lately. bye good idea budd since you have yet to either mind your own business or even say anything of value. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .
