Sudden transmission problem

From : tim

Q: i was out running some errands today and something really weird started happening with my 99 ram 1500 after my last stop. i was at a stop light and when the light turned green and i pressed the gas the truck did not move. i looked down thinking i took the truck out of gear or something but i was in drive. after a few seconds of revving up the truck slowly started moving. it seemed to get 2nd gear ok but then kept revving up to over 3000rpm not downshifting at all. it would only downshift if i let off the gas. then only very light pressure to the gas pedal would keep it from suddenly downshifting very hard. a light tap to the gas or trying to go more than about 55 seems to make it want to downshift very quickly. one weird thing i noticed is that when i manually put it in 1st gear it accelerates normally from a stop. moving to second is ok too but when i put it to d it doesnt want to downshift. seems like accelerating from a stop is a problem when in drive but not when in 1st. any ideas this seemed to start suddenly and to me seems more electrical than mechanical. .

i had shifting slipping problems intermittingly until i adjusted the tv cable throttle to trans and problems went away. it was a little slack maybe a 1/8 - 1/4. after testing i cleaned the engine/trans. grounds & put anticorrosion paste intended for aluminum connections. it now works good i was out running some errands today and something really weird started happening with my 99 ram 1500 after my last stop. i was at a stop light and when the light turned green and i pressed the gas the truck did not move. i looked down thinking i took the truck out of gear or something but i was in drive. after a few seconds of revving up the truck slowly started moving. it seemed to get 2nd gear ok but then kept revving up to over 3000rpm not downshifting at all. it would only downshift if i let off the gas. then only very light pressure to the gas pedal would keep it from suddenly downshifting very hard. a light tap to the gas or trying to go more than about 55 seems to make it want to downshift very quickly. one weird thing i noticed is that when i manually put it in 1st gear it accelerates normally from a stop. moving to second is ok too but when i put it to d it doesnt want to downshift. seems like accelerating from a stop is a problem when in drive but not when in 1st. any ideas this seemed to start suddenly and to me seems more electrical than mechanical. this might sound silly but have you checked the fluid --- outgoing mail is certified virus free. checked by avg anti-virus system http//www.grisoft.com. version 6.0.734 / virus database 488 - release date 8/4/2004 .

could this be limp home mode no its the governor pressure solenoid or governor pressure transducer fucked up making the transmission start in 2nd or 3rd mode easy fix around 300 bucks including a fluid and filter change and band adjustment .

i checked the fault codes using the ignition and i got six dings and nothing else. any ideas what this is you cant check the fault codes in a 99 using the on-off-on-off-on method. youll need a code reader. .

now the check engine light is on. i am so close to getting rid of this pos and buying something else. isnt it curious how many poss are sold or traded in at a considerable loss for what is usually a $50 part .

oops forgot to add that to my message. yes i checked the trans fluid level and it was right on and the color looked good. today my truck starts out ok in first gear but still has a problem downshifting at higher speed. and now the check engine light is on. i am so close to getting rid of this pos and buying something else. this might sound silly but have you checked the fluid .

i was already looking at a $1000+ repair before this started happening. its all these $1000 repairs more than once a year that are the problem not $50 parts. now the check engine light is on. i am so close to getting rid of this pos and buying something else. isnt it curious how many poss are sold or traded in at a considerable loss for what is usually a $50 part .

i dont have a transmission schematic. oh well this is looking to be over my head anyway - dropping it off at the shop tomorrow. is this the map sensor theres nothing called a governor pressure solenoid or transducer in the schematics. you are looking at the transmission schematic and not the engines right -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .
