Stuck in California
From : js
Q: i have been shopping for my fifth dodge and third diesel but i am really disappointed in the power of the diesel offered in california. 15 horsepower less than standard output from most other states. the high output diesel isnt available at all. anyone know if the engineers at dodge and cummins are doing anything to keep up with ford and chevy in california or are they just writing this state off. i am a solid dodge customer but i cant see paying top dollar for a pickup i will be disappointed in the day i drive it off the lot. thanks. .

thanks first i have heard so far that they are trying to get an ho engine into the california market. jim i have been shopping for my fifth dodge and third diesel but i am really disappointed in the power of the diesel offered in california. 15 horsepower less than standard output from most other states. the high output diesel isnt available at all. anyone know if the engineers at dodge and cummins are doing anything to keep up with ford and chevy in california or are they just writing this state off. i am a solid dodge customer but i cant see paying top dollar for a pickup i will be disappointed in the day i drive it off the lot. thanks. i just made an offer on a dodge ram 4x4 3/4 ton quad cab short bed this weekend with the standard output diesel. sticker price is exactly $40000. with the $3000 rebate they are willing to accept $34000 as the purchase price. add $2000 for some banks aftermarket stuff and you will not be disappointed in your dodges power. and all for only $35000k.... not top dollar for a dodge diesel with 300+ hp and 600+ ft/lbs torque by any stretch. i agree it does suck that we cant get the normal ho here though. i just found out saturday that its been put off for at least another year. my expression of displeasure may be part of the reason they were willing to accept the 34k offer. im thinking about it hard. cliff .

hi everyone. this is my first visit to your group so forgive me if this has been asked before. i have a 1999 ram 1500 with the small v8...i think its a 318...cant remember the liters. 2 weeks ago the truck developed several problems overnight. i drove it one day...everything was fine. the next morning the abs light is on the parking brake light is on the speedometer will not work until i am faster than 30 mph and it will not idle. occasionally the problems all go away at the same time for a few minutes then all re-appear at the same time several minutes later. i can only imagine that i have some sort of computer chip or board that has gone bad or has dirty contacts but i have no idea where to begin looking for it. anyone had a similar problem and have any idea what to do about it thanks in advance! gary .

curmudgeon wrote mercedes diesel wrote off california and its totally unreal emission demands....why shouldnt dodge...a division of mb havent looked into it so dont know if it is true or not but read on another board that the 2004 cummins will meet california emissions at 250 hp for the standard engine. jerry .

perhaps because people are much more willing to give up oil burners in their luxury cars than they are in their trucks and the money lost is too high to consider. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving mercedes diesel wrote off california and its totally unreal emission demands....why shouldnt dodge...a division of mb i have been shopping for my fifth dodge and third diesel but i am really disappointed in the power of the diesel offered in california. 15 horsepower less than standard output from most other states. the high output diesel isnt available at all. anyone know if the engineers at dodge and cummins are doing anything to keep up with ford and chevy in california or are they just writing this state off. i am a solid dodge customer but i cant see paying top dollar for a pickup i will be disappointed in the day i drive it off the lot. thanks. .
