Stuck door latch

Q: hi folks the latch that keeps the door shut has locked into position with the door open so that the door doesnt close now. i cant seem to figure out why it doesnt release. if i pull the outside door handle the mechanism to release the latch seems to move but the latch doesnt budge. any ideas on how to force it regards sz. .

hi folks the latch that keeps the door shut has locked into position with the door open so that the door doesnt close now. i cant seem to figure out why it doesnt release. if i pull the outside door handle the mechanism to release the latch seems to move but the latch doesnt budge. any ideas on how to force it regards sz. screwdriver pencil finger whatever....pull one of the door handles and move the latch to the open position. itll take a little effort but shouldnt be too tough to do. .
