Q: you shouldnt have to pay if 50k or under and or 5 yrs or sooner. -- mark i have gotten the same code 5 times now in the past year. dealer made me replace the gas cap the first time and they reset the light and charged me $75. light came on 4 weeks later. again they said it must be a bad gas cap. i insisted they do further testing. they then found a split hose going from the tank to the canister. the light stayed off for 2 months. dealer then found a cracked fitting on the canister. light stayed off for 3 months. dealer then found the hose going from the canister to the engine compartment. light stayed off for 4 months. now it is back on with the same code. it has been on for about 4 weeks now. ill probably take it to the dealer this weekend and probably get charged $75 again. i have never had a vehicle with so many leaks in this type of system. gary wrote well folks i found out what the obd code above was telling me. i decided to make an appointment with the dealership after removing and reinstalling the gas cap. someone had mentionted that might be the culprit. even removing it reinstalling it and driving for over 100 miles didn do a thing so i reasoned it must be something else. wrong. the night before i was to take it in i decided to fill it with gas. after filling got in and started it up. no more light. now anyone know why sticking a gas filler nozzle in the tank access would do anything that removing and reinstalling the gas cap wouldnt anyway store it away for future reference and thanks for the help. gary .

hey guys used to hang out on this forum right when i bought my truck five years or so ago but have dropped off till recently...however my 1999 dodge ram qc long bed is getting old and has 135000 miles on it in ive got the 5.9l v8 and gas mileage is pretty bad in the 12-13 on the highway and 10-12 around town... if im pulling something its falling down to 9 mpg. in short it sucks... does anyone have any advice.. ive just recently replaced the distributor cap well actually my mechanic did and weve run fuel injector cleaner...spark plugs and wires are only 20k miles old...air filter was replaced recently. im lost... what can i do to get the mileage and power back up also its got other small problems... in the top console one of the push button lights has gone out and i cant figure how to get the console off to replace the bulb... the electronic door lock on the passenger side door is also no longer working and when you attempt to lock it it makes a whirring noise and tries to lock but usually doesnt. finally the seal on the back window is leaking and i cant figure out how to just order a new seal. the dodge dealership says i have to order a whole new back window assembly for around $400... yikes!! help! does anyone have a good book to recommend tia carl chipman .

lol gee i try to be nice and you still act like an asshole. oh well i tried. i buy the equipment so that i can see what is wrong and work from there. i doubt you would buy the drb2 and a smoke machine just to find the leak on your own vehicle. both are several thousand bucks apiece. and you would be correct. my code reader could possibly be considered a lower line diag tool as it can read and display data from the sensors and computer and send it to my pc as well as read and clear codes. as for the smoke machine i could probably fabricate that but i know thaty it would be no where near as effective as the several thusanddollar one. but as i know you get what you pay for. the list is dammed near endless on what the drb can do compared to a generic code reader. take just about any electrical system on the vehical and the drb can force relays/solinoids/servos to cycle. it can monitor you cruise control buttons for functioning. it can tell you what shut off the cruise the last time it was on. ie brake switch power button neutral safety switch ect. it can sweep the needles on your dash gauges check the climate control the list is endless. but it has never given me any sex yet. g i guess that you are not as smart as i thought never mind. ya know mr. bone a few of your posts you act like a man and although i dont always agree with your opinion i respect it. most of the time tho you just sound like a whiney little baby bitch that likes to read his own posts and sit there and smile about how witty they are. in all honesty denny if you want me to take these comments seriously then you really need to be a little less one sided with them. i will be the first to admit that i am far from perfect and start my share of crap but i am far from alone in doing that and yet i seem to be the only one that gets any shit for it. one reason for that is that i dont have your e-mail addy. i have voiced my opinion and listened to others from several different members of this group but i do it thru the mail. i just feel that all this bs does not do anything good for the group. myself i like the off topic discussions. ive learned a bunch over the years about all kinds of shit but it usually degrades into name calling and insults and no offence you are right in the middle of it nearly every time. i never said you started all of it but you sure dont hesitate to join in at the first chance. denny .

there is a code for a small leak i believe it is p0456 lol gee i try to be nice and you still act like an asshole. oh well i tried. i buy the equipment so that i can see what is wrong and work from there. i doubt you would buy the drb2 and a smoke machine just to find the leak on your own vehicle. both are several thousand bucks apiece. and you would be correct. my code reader could possibly be considered a lower line diag tool as it can read and display data from the sensors and computer and send it to my pc as well as read and clear codes. as for the smoke machine i could probably fabricate that but i know thaty it would be no where near as effective as the several thusanddollar one. but as i know you get what you pay for. exactly what equipment do you think that they use to find these leaks see above. both are required tools. what is the drb2 tool doing during the search for the leak and btw a small leak will not set that code. you would be surprized how small of a leak can be detected. ive seen a whisp of smoke come out of a line that looked perfectly good to the eye. as i have come to learn. i did not realize that the vapor recovery system had become that sophisticated. i guess that you are not as smart as i thought never mind. ya know mr. bone a few of your posts you act like a man and although i dont always agree with your opinion i respect it. most of the time tho you just sound like a whiney little baby bitch that likes to read his own posts and sit there and smile about how witty they are. in all honesty denny if you want me to take these comments seriously then you really need to be a little less one sided with them. i will be the first to admit that i am far from perfect and start my share of crap but i am far from alone in doing that and yet i seem to be the only one that gets any shit for it. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

the tapping noise could easily be a leaking exhaust manifold or the engine pipe gasket. steve whenever i accelerate a little aggresively i hear a fast tapping noise from the engine. it dies off when i ease back on the gas or reach a constant speed. any ideas i have an 01 ram 1500 v8 4wd.......thanks .

a little far fetched but maybe a dried up ball joint squeeking on wed 17 nov 2004 145235 -0500 slidge slidge@slidge.com wrote i cant quite figure out what is causing this. i have a 2000 dodge dakota. if the engine is on and i turn the steering wheel back and forth there is a little whoosh sound for want of a better description. it almost sounds like the sound when someone is walking wearing corduroy pants. it makes that sound consistently when you turn the steering wheel. however with the engine turned off it doesnt make the sound at all. any ideas .

budd cochran wrote do you have power steering bet youre hearing the noise of the fluid flowing thru the hoses. actually whooshing was the wrong word to describe it. its more of a whiffing sound. it doesnt sound to me like fluid in the hoses although i wont rule out that is what it is. it really sounds like when you wash a window with windex and at the very end of cleaning the window it makes that funny skrinch skrinch sound. only it makes that sound whenever i turn the steering wheel. maybe i need to top off the power steering fluid it sounds like something in the power steering hydraulics but it could be one of many things. the first thing to do is to check the power steering fluid level. if it is low then you will hear various noises. if the fluid level looks ok you will need to better pinpoint the source of the sound. it can really be anything from a worn pump to a bad valve in the steering gear to a loose return hose clamp or blown o-ring. the easiest way that i find to do that is with either a mechanics stethoscope or a simple hose. the fact that it seems to happen only under load turning the wheel and does it in both directions would have me looking at the pump first but it could be the gear just the same. have a friend turn the wheel back and forth while you listen to each of the components with the hose to find out which component is causing the problem and be careful. do not jam the hose into your ear as it is not worth damaging your eardrum to find it and there are moving parts in there that you can snag with the hose if you are not careful. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

hello all im new to this group and to the dodge brand as well. oct 1st picked up my brand new 04 dakota ext. cab 2wd 4.7 5spd. in the past month and a half ive clocked about 2400k miles so far. my question is what kind of gas mileage can i expect from this truck right now im averaging about 10 miles per gallon 90 percent of my driving is all highway. i know its not really broken in yet...but can i expect to get better gas mileage in the future im currently using 87 octane mobil & hess unleaded. this grade of gas is recommended in the truck manual. also ive been breaking her in real easy...... any comments or suggests for better fuel mileage would be appreciated. thanks -- john 04 dodge dakota ext. cab 4.7 5spd .

budd cochran wrote coming down from moab ut on us-191 to us-160 to us-89 to i-17. its the route we used two weeks ago. we have a forcast for snow showers this weekend also. my biggest concern is the 700+ foot area in the national forest on 17. fridays when well be hurrying down and saturday if we can get away by 7 or 8 a.m. will be more liesurely . . . .ill certainly be finding out how well my trailer handles 70 mph at least. current forcast is showing the next chance for snow to be sunday in flagstaff area. from where you are coming there isnt really a way to bypass high elevations. one alternative is to come down 191 to i-40 to holbrook and then on 77 to showlow. from there you could take 60 through globe and into phoenix or 260 i prefer through payson to phoenix. these highways are all good well traveled routes but showlow is at 6500. that would be about 50 miles further but might be better if flagstaff is iced up and showlow area is not. .

dwayne lane dodge in everett wa is running a misleading promotion to lure unsuspecting prospects onto their sales floor. you receive a scratch card with four chances to win. the games are labeled 1 2 3 and 4. when you scratch off the covering it looks like you have won game four. the accompanying flier says that you could win four different items enumerated by roman numerals. number iv is $10000.00. when you get to the dealership it is explained to you that winning game four actually gets you a cheesy trip to las vegas. when you complain that you thought that you had won $10000 the salesman says yes that is kind of misleading but those numbers he points to the scratch ticket are arabic and those numbers pointing to the flier are roman. yeah it sucks and we have filed a complaint because we dont do business that way. sorry pal but you are doing business that way. and it sucks. mike walton .

you might want to check your charging system and see how many volts you are putting back into the battery. even for the fairly low quality mopar batteries that umber seems excessive. my factory battery lasted about 5 years and 70000 miles. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving sackattack84 wrote my 94 ram 1500 5.2l runs like crap when i first fire it up after it sits for a while. the idle is rough and kinda reminds me of the idle lope of a big cammed street engine. it also surges as it warms. by the time the temp guage starts to move it smoothes out and runs real well but feels like its missing or choking out until then. the truck has a brand new thermostat coolant temp sensor o2 sensor cat air filter fuel pump fairly fresh plugs and wires new egr valve and a new pcv valve. it also has a normal manifold vaccuum reading and is not displaying any computer trouble codes. running out of ideas somebody help! thanks! my 01 ram 5.2l auto started acting like this too when the original battery got weak. as soon as the dealer put a new one in the engine smoothed out. im on my 3rd battery now at 53000 miles. now that the truck is out of warranty ill replace this mopar battery with a die hard when it bites the dust. the mopars dont seem to last long. might want to get your load tested. bob .
