sno brain sez it will bolt in but i would not use it as the 440 has a lot more torque. try and find a old 727 out of a full size car that had a 440 in it to begin with because they were built a bit heavier and they had a different converter too than the one used on smaller engines. not to mention the fact that a 360 has a different bellhousing pattern than a 440. so no it will not bolt in. -- max there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author jtnospam@yahoo.com wrote i have a 1979 dodge rv 440 engine and the tranny is almost shot. i have been offered a tranny from a late 60s dodge with a 360 engine. will it just switch out and will it handle the rv with a light tow trailer neither has an overdrive. thanks in advance.-jitney it will bolt in but i would not use it as the 440 has a lot more torque. try and find a old 727 out of a full size car that had a 440 in it to begin with because they were built a bit heavier and they had a different converter too than the one used on smaller engines. -- ----------------- www.thesnoman.com .

i have a 1979 dodge rv 440 engine and the tranny is almost shot. i have been offered a tranny from a late 60s dodge with a 360 engine. will it just switch out and will it handle the rv with a light tow trailer neither has an overdrive. thanks in advance.-jitney hi jitney it *wont* fit... between the slant-6 170/198/225 cid la small-block 273/318/340/360 cid and b/rb big-block 361/383/400/413/426/440 ci there were three different bellhousings which are integral to the transmission case. there were two families of torqueflite called loadflite as used in trucks -- the smaller a904 and the larger a727. while you could get a 727 behind any engine the b/rb engines got only the 727. are you *certain* you have a 440 in your motorhome distributor in back = 273/318/340/360... distributor in front = 361/383/400/413/426/440. bryan .

you need to be a little more clear on how the new battery died. you did give a mileage but in relation to what did you put it in and drive right away and it died or did you put it in and drove that far and the next day it was dead or did you put it in and a few days later took that drive and it died after 100km sucks when people dont give you all the information doesnt it well when youre grasping at straws and dont know what information to give in the first place what can you do ;- thanks for the insightful comment though... .

tbone wrote now you get an idea what it feels like to be hit with petty bs for a change. not at all... he wasnt specific i asked for clarification he gave it and then he got some answers. now im happy. and im glad to hear it - but i gave him an answer before he posted his clarification or at least before i saw it. whoop-te-do tom. according to google and tera i beat your answer by one minute. whats your point in riding tom l. about this the one trying to argue from a third party viewpoint is you. tom l. always makes sure as do i if needed that complete information is given so the best answer can be determined. budd .

why why not do i now need you permission to post or are you just trying to start an argument you are going to have to do far better than this to get me to bite -. i ask a simple one darn word yet!!!! question and get accused of trying to start an argument or moderate the group . . .good grief! well since this is your second response to the same post and with our past history you would suspect nothing different either but to answer your question i was making a general statement about the way many servers work to let people know that if they post a binary into a non-binary group there is a good chance that many will never see it. uh oh you just broke that new law. . . . .maybe . . . . lol btw tom check out this link . . . http//.zdnet.com/2100-100922-6024695.html im glad ive always used my name. what do you think of it lol i think that you already know what i think of that bs. so much for that smaller government and personal freedoms that he lied about. you didnt read the whole story did you arlan specter r the spectre !!! was involved in inserting the wording into a bill that had to pass. i figure the libs will raise a question of constitutionality on it somehow. i did read the entire story but he still signed it. you would be right about the libs or anyone with an iq over 5 raising a question over such an ignorant piece of legislation. charles budd cochran we know who you are. no need to get paranoid. im not but are you i dont use a screen name. if you dont hide anything you dont have to worry about it being discovered and then trying to defend yourself. yea i guess the right of privacy doesnt mean much anymore right budd. so much for personal liberties in our new world of fear and paranoia. did you consider the possibility that i asked you because i know your reaction to your name being given out and actually wanted a simple honest input for the group with the type of people that can be found on usenet there is no wonder why so many dont use their real names and most that do only use their first name. i used to use my real name until it was hijacked by some lowlife scumbag and then i learned not to do that. most of your friends in this group also dont use their real or full names in here and probably for similar reasons. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

sounds like it was low on oil and siezed up or it was in 4wd without you knowing it for a while and the chain wore and stretched and tried to jump a tooch and self destructed. basically true; both are possible. your level of damage strongly suggests it was in 4wd when it failed where it was selected or not because in 2wd is is a simple pass thru unit with very few internal parts moving. false. the nv transfer cases are a shift on the fly unit. as such they use a synchronizer and a slider to engage 4wd. therefore the front output shaft must be rotating in order to engage smoothly. further the oil pump is driven by the output shaft. also gear reduction uses a planetary gearset. this gearset is always rotating since its driven off the input shaft. as such almost everything in the transfer case is rotating at any given time particularly because its a shift on the fly unit. -- max there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author eagle view wrote hi i am looking for some information or other people who have had similar situations. my truck has 150000 miles on it without any truly hard use. has had fairly regular preventative maintenance. about 1 1/2 weeks ago a regular clunk developed under the hood. it would get faster as the truck moved faster. i took it to two different shops and asked them both to please check the u-joints. the first shop said yeah theyre a little loose but not bad. the second shop told me i needed the ball joints replace. i know the difference between ball joint noise and u-joint noise. well needless to say last friday evening i had a catastrophic failure of the transfer case. not only did it basically disintegrate internally but the outer case broke into parts. i lost the front driveline the transfer case and have a huge dent in the transmission oil pan. has anyone else had similar problems thanking you in advance. ardis @ eagle view sounds like it was low on oil and siezed up or it was in 4wd without you knowing it for a while and the chain wore and stretched and tried to jump a tooch and self destructed. your level of damage strongly suggests it was in 4wd when it failed where it was selected or not because in 2wd is is a simple pass thru unit with very few internal parts moving. -- ----------------- www.thesnoman.com .
