the market for 6-cyl 1/2 tons is rather small. theyre often bought stripped and used by construction firms to carry a tool box etc. to construction sites. they need the bed to carry somewhat bulky but not all that heavy equipment etc. why buy a 6 cylinder 1/2 ton when you can get a 1/4 ton cheaper and get better gas mileage i would agree the market for 6 cylinder 1/2 tons is small. but if it had a small 6 cylinder diesel in it that would be a different story. .

cord wrapped around the shifter or some other protrusion that gets in the way. as far as i know hes not had any problems with it and hes had it four or five years. yup getting the cord wrapped up was a concern of mine. a guy i knew had a thing about the size of a pack of cigs that was thinner and had push button controls. he velcroed it to his console. think it was a meyers. guess im going to have to see how much mobility im going to have. probably end up with the cord thing. if it was a meyers i know what youre talking about. mine came with the touch-pad controller and i hated it. i used it the first year i got it and converted to the single joy stick for the next season. i was always hitting the wrong darn button in the dark. kinda pisses ya off when ya start making a push and then have to back up and start over cause the blade didnt move the way it was supposed to. on my old truck i had a bracket bolted on the stick shift for the joystick. ive never seen it done on an automatic but it may be worth looking at. can you use your right arm to shift i dont know. as it is now before they decide to cut i cant spin the wheel hard or fast with my right. i figure to do the steering and shift with the left and plow control with the right. it is totally backwards but with a hand held ill be able to position and support my right so it will be comfortable i hope. being able to move it a bit will i think make it easier as the hours build. shift with your left that would suck. i cant think of a thing to get around that. i wont be doing driveways thats for sure. i think i can lower the wheel a bit and come over the top. we have some large lots that i can windrow and drive around for my next pass. a couple have buildings smack in the middle sooo everything goes to the parimeter ill probably be dizzy by the time i get doneg roy denny .

i hear what you are saying but the hitch should be fine. be thankful that you had it on. otherwise your truck would have more damage. i had someone run into the back of my 79 dodge van replaced the bumper & another $500 would have fixed it up didnt fix it still drove fine the other car a 2000 maxim was totalled. the trailer hitch did a number on his car he needed a tow truck .

budd cochran wrote that sounds more like a engine balance mismatch. a 318 is internally balanced and a 360 is externally balanced. a 360 trans on a 318 or vice versa will shake like mad. in both cases the right converter fixes the problem. well i dont think its a balance problem like youre describing. to make a long story short the van was basically stolen from me at one point and for about a year and a half i believed that it had been sent to the crusher--until dad saw it driving down the road. apparently the people who told him not me that it was unfixable hardly anything is unfixable fixed it 2 weeks later and ran it with illegal tags for that year and a half delivering carpet. i dont know if they did something to it once they realized that they were about to return it. i do know that after it was returned to me it was in many ways the old worn out dodge van that i knew and loved but soon after started having a strange issue where something would make a good bit of noise when just maintaining speed but not under load or while deccelerating. someone suggested to me that they make have put something in the oil or the gas tank to cause quicker-than-normal deterioration of the engine. someone else listened and said it sounded like the main bearings. main bearings will hammer loudest under load even light cruise but will quieten some when coasting at lower speed. rods pound under load but dont quieten much. i do know that when i did get it running that last time it idled *ok* after a very lengthy warmup on a very hot alabama day. it revved smoothly without noise when in park. the heavy-duty vibration only occured when moving in gear and it was there regardless of whether or not i was accelerating or coasting down a hill. long warmups could be a plugged crossover passage thermostat stuck open or inoperative choke or any combination of the three. why be miffed the squirrel had excellent taste and chose the best highest quality storage place he could find. youve obviously got a five acorn air cleaner there friend. lol...well he mustve thought so. i thought otherwise once i saw how the flapper in the intake tube had rusted open and the linkage connected to it was mia. it just made it easier for him to get in! and they always go for the better places. better give that carb a good soaking and rebuild it or buy a rebuilt because that could be some of the vibration also. that carb was toast in 93 when i started driving the van. i think its beyond a good soaking. the choke was shot about 200k miles ago ;- i would like to rebuild it just because... but if i manage to get the van mobile enough to move a few miles ill probably do so with a temporary carb until i can find a more permanent workspace for it. jp sounds like a plan. if i can be of help just drop the spam out of my email address. good luck! budd -- posted via a free usenet account from http//www.tera.com .

im from los angeles. here i was able to get an 06 3500 q/c long bead slt offered at $31000 with a fleet dealer rebate of $5000. if you folks have aaa or costco memberships you can save in my case up $3000 from retail. this is my first diesel and i love it. owning a diesel is a little different on maintenance but the performance is well worth it. you have to consider your needs with the truck before you make any type of purchase. as for me towing my heavy fifth wheel need a serious upgrade from the gas guzzling gmc dually crewcab. so much more maintenace and less torque. ok looks like ive got a leftover ram 3500 srw quad cab short bed laramie edition lined up at the dealer for 33k. its really 23k plus my truck but 10k is a trade im ok with. so any opinions considering its now a last years model thats been on the lot for 6 months i figured getting the thing at invoice plus a good trade in on my 2000 tacoma v6 prerunner was a decent deal. i was more interested in getting a 5.9 cummins however misguided that may be. theres currently a $3500 rebate on the leftover 06s that ends tonight. im thinking they cant just do away with the rebates on the leftovers but more than likely will increase them. ive never bought a new us auto before so the ins and outs of it all are a bit new to me. thanks for any input. im due to go in tonight and make the deal. bb .

the diesel costs more initially but maintenance is less its going to last three or four times as many miles as the gas engine and of course theres the waaaaaaaaay better fuel economy. plus you have to figure the diesel dc would put in a 1500 would probably be a four cylinder or a much smaller six with correspondingly better economy. tom lawrence wrote youre making the assumption that the mpg is equal between a gas and diesel engine of comparable power. thats simply not the case. the diesel can easily outperform a comparable gas engine by 50% in fuel economy sometimes upwards of 90% as evidence a 310hp/450lb.ft. gas v10 gets about 10mpg whereas a 305hp/555lb.ft. diesel i6 gets about 18mpg in the same vehicle - those are both empty daily-commuter numbers i realize that but the payback isnt there. diesel here is $.20 higher than regular gas. the diesel engine costs $5000+ more than the gas. people buy it for the power it puts out. it hasnt been a cost saver for many years. i just do not see a use for a diesel in a 1/2 ton unless its cost over a comparable gasser is under $1000. .

life. but all in all not a pretty picture. but in the past. its sad when a group either has to give up its children or has them ripped away because of the society. its worse that the dominant group will be able to object to it happening to themselves but encourage it among the subordinate groups. im currently helping her youngest son get a ramcharger 4x4 running again by teaching him things about auto mechanics no longer taught in school. he was sold an engine that had been converted point type ignition and he knew nothing about how they worked. the vehicle had been his dads before he died from cancer. its an honor to be asked help someones son become a man. id think it should be an honor no matter what race the kid is. i simply said it was an honor i did not say it was so because of his etnicity. dont add to what i say and you will understand it better. this sounds like my fathers sort of im not a racist! look heres my black friend roy. thats how he always mentioned the guy his black friend roy. not just my friend roy as any color-blind person would. jmc and you are wrong about my reasoning but i doubt you believe that and it limits your understanding. ok since you taken this tack then the conversation is over. there was no need to be insulting towards me. if your wondering like roy and others how i could be insulted by something said in this forum doubtful people are wondering. it is easy when you feel like going on a rant or when sombody disagrees with you you scream insult or bigot in a failed attempt to lend credence to your position or to excuse your actions. you have done it many times. nobody wonders anymore. its as its been said in this and other groups insults are in the ears of the hearer. what could be funny to one is an insult to another. and that is what makes people different. it is called life why dont ya get one. . 222 324574 45475016$0$12090$88260bb3@free.tera.com suddenly without warning budd cochran exclaimed 30-oct-06 1149 pm suddenly without warning budd cochran exclaimed 29-oct-06 1043 pm opinion i cant help with the truck but for explanation of the aboriginal situation their status is akin to that of the native american amerind in that theyve been mistreated over-run subjugated to the point of losing their collective sense of worth by the invaders of their homeland the white man. they certainly were treated poorly in the past but most of their problems today are self-inflicted or a problem of individuals. show me a *current* law in either country that subjugates either peoples. show a law that subjugates how about the fact the us government still advocates by law the continuance of the reservations the financial subsidy of the amerinds and the lack of educational facilities both scholastic and technical readily available to them as compared to whites. give them a fish and they eat today teach to fish and they eat everday to paraphrase the chinese proverb. living in the southwest us i meet many native americans and have met over the years a few aboriginals that escaped the oppression. in both peoples they just want to live their lives in peace and harmony with their neighbors as equals. well duh. of course. nothing stopping them really if theyre willing to work at it. plenty of aboriginals are still here either on a station leading a traditional or pastoral ranching life or living in town integrated into the modern world. if they are willing to work at it . . . why does the subjugated always have to work at getting along with the opressors interestingly the liberals of both nations and britain tend to overlook the rights of the native peoples. actually its a good bit more complicated than that. the law supports aboriginals - over-supports them often due to legal aid - but certainly the history of what white australians did to the aboriginal is worse than what happened in the us. no its just the the superior species of man throwing its weight around. i dont even know what you mean by that. whites throwing their weight around by making sure aboriginals that commit crimes get off are throwing their weight around to you this should be a good thing you seem to support reverse discrimination. no i support true equality everyone living together in harmony respecting one another for who they are what they believe and how they live. imho reverse discrimination is setting quotas for hiring the unqualified over the qualified regardless of ethnic divisions i believe in one blood one human race. no one should not be punished for a crime in any society because of ethnicity. but many of individuals woes they brought on themselves - plenty of aboriginals have managed to stay out of the bottle and make good lives for themselves. but as with the american indian too many have decided to hide in a bottle and live off the govt rather than

well said mike my problem with the whole religious bickering and the reason i care not to read these threads that turn into this is it does no one any good. lets remember the tolerance that christ teaches of each other. here food for thought also. titus 39 but avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law because these are unprofitable and useless. warn a divisive person once and then warn him a second time. after that have nothing to do with him. 2 timothy 214 keep reminding them of these things. warn them before god against quarreling about words; it is of no value and only ruins those who listen. 2 timothy 223 dont have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments because you know they produce quarrels. and the lords servant must not quarrel; instead he must be kind to everyone able to teach not resentful. now im done. may the lord be with you in your walk. -- ---------------------------- -chris 05 ctd 06 liberty crd real trucks dont need spark plugs. im not defending budd or anyone else for that matter. we each define our faith as how it pertains to our lives and how it affects how we conduct our affairs with others. what i have noticed lately and not only in this ng is that somehow we christians are fair game to those who believe that religion is a foolish pursuit. a good example is craigs sig line... something about facts vs. religion... budds faith is his alone my faith is mine alone your faith or lack of as the case may be is your own... we should not ostracize others for their strongly held beliefs. i guess one approach is to remain silent rather than goad each other with needless provocations. if you remember the movie bambi you probably remember the rabbit thumper. in the movie thumper related what his mother once told him... if you cant say nuthin good then dont say nuthin at all..... we would all do well to heed thumpers advice. mike .

suddenly without warning mike simmons exclaimed 29-oct-06 1022 pm what sort of quality level is expected for some relatively minor body work thanks for any help. jmc if the problems werent there prior to the repair then the bs should fix em. the roughness is probably some overspray and can be cleaned off quickly with paint cleaning clay. it is always to good idea to clay the whole vehicle before waxing for a superior shine. mike thanks. just got back - the light turns out to be a hack job by the english shop and is now repaired. the roughness - he insisted it cant be overspray cause that part was covered in plastic. ive got some clay around here somewheres will see if that smooths things out. the dull bit he said it was polish but gave no suggestions on how to get rid of it. clay again i do love clay for keeping a great smooth shine but its a lot of work on a truck so i use the clay in spots as needed and have only done the entire truck once. when im washing claying waxing the truck i sometimes miss mello yello my first car - a little glow-in-the-dark-yellow 1976 chevette didnt take so long to wash and wax jmc .

after the 60s i dont think they made many short output shaft transmissions as the wheelbase standardized at more than 100 inches. that sounds more like a engine balance mismatch. a 318 is internally balanced and a 360 is externally balanced. a 360 trans on a 318 or vice versa will shake like mad. in both cases the right converter fixes the problem. why be miffed the squirrel had excellent taste and chose the best highest quality storage place he could find. youve obviously got a five acorn air cleaner there friend. better give that carb a good soaking and rebuild it or buy a rebuilt because that could be some of the vibration also. glad to help. -- budd cochran john 316-17 ephesians 28-9 romans 323 623 our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. it is wholly inadequate for the government of any other. john adams well i know its a 727 just wasnt sure on the length... the last time i started it was to see if it was up to the trip from alabama to atlanta. it clearly was not. the tranny made funny sounds and i only got up to about 10mph before there was heavy vibration coming from somewhere within the drivetrain. i removed the air cleaner before starting it only to discover that a squirrel had decided to use it for acorn storage...i was kind of miffed about that. also the carbs never been rebuilt... it ran shall we say...a little rough. thanks jp budd cochran wrote being the b250 it was probably a 727 trans originally but if there have been engine and trans swaps it could be a 904 also. given that possibility id say its most likely a long output shaft trans or the driveshaft would have been swapped as well. the rear axle is most likely the 9.25 / 9 1/4 corporate and contrary to some a good axle. i know of one that has yours matched or beat on the number of miles. if the engine turns easily by hand with a socket and breaker bar it should start with fresh battery oil and gas. -- budd cochran john 316-17 ephesians 28-9 romans 323 623 our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. it is wholly inadequate for the government of any other. john adams -- posted via a free usenet account from http//www.tera.com .

hi all... first post here. i see quite a few familiar names from the chevy groups. ive owned a 1984 b250 dodge van for years now and its been off the road for the last few. although its *highly* unfeasible to do so ive decided to start the process of getting it back on the road as it holds much sentimental value and i just enjoyed driving it a lot. before any real work can happen i need to find out a few things and my first question refers to which tranny it has. ive heard there are long and short versions of the 727 but i dont know which i have. the van is a standard-length van. by standard i mean its not a shorty and its not one of those with the extra long rear end hanging off the back...just your average sized utility van. id also like to know which rear axle it has. its been a good one. after a few engine and tranny swaps from back when my dad drove and didnt properly maintain it that rear axle has roughly 485000 miles on it. im not kidding. im looking forward to digging it out of the weeds at my ex-wifes place and getting it running well enough to drive out of there under its own power. i need to get to where i could meet a car-hauling buddy of mine for the long trip back to atlanta as its currently way out in the back woods of alabama. thanks all jp .

recently i received my truck back from the body shop after they fixed the back fender. initially we were quite happy with the work - panel looks good as new from arms length. i have no quarrels with the quality of bodywork or the paint matching. in most light it is impossible to tell where the new paint is. the shop personnel have been patient and helpful with my questions/concerns so far. from closer up though i found some imperfections. im not sure if im being nitpicky or not thus this post. my truck is dark green/silver two tone. the first thing i noticed was that theres some green on the silver near the repair - theyve already agreed to fix that. its faint but noticeable. also the rear backup light no longer works despite a brand new light assembly. the old one did work after the accident. theyve agreed to have a look at this too. later ive noticed the following 1. theres an area of paint toward the front of the panel - probably where some blending was done - that looks like someone wiped a sponge over it and it dried leaving a water stain that dulls the paint. however this wont come off and is still noticeable after i tried waxing it. 2. on the next panel over theres a roughness to the paint that wont wash or wax out. since its up by the window i have no idea what it is cept it wasnt there last time i waxed. its unlikely to be environmental though as its behind my bed box. 3. looks like they created some little chip marks to the corner of the neighboring panel which they touched up. but those chips werent there before and are now quite noticeable despite the touch up. now all of these are small but to me they add up to a less-than-perfect quality control. but what i need to know is - is this normal and should i let it slide or am i justified in pointing them out and asking to have them fixed what sort of quality level is expected for some relatively minor body work thanks for any help. jmc .
