with my 99 dakota 5.2 4x4 auto trans 3.55 gears i average 11.6 mpg. on longer road trips with a lot of cruising at 60-70 i can get it up to 14. i talked to a guy at the gas station when he was filling his cuda he said that dodges get 10mpg doesnt matter what it is they always get 10. i put about 200 miles a month on my truck now so the mileage is not that much of an issue any more. the motorcycle gets 45-50 mpg so i commute on that instead the 4wd is nice to have but have found that the limited slip is useless once a wheel leaves the ground while crawling. need to get lockers for it.any recommendations greetings recently i purchased a 2001 dodge ram 1500 quad cab/ off road package with an automatic transmission with a 5.9 liter magnum gas engine. i love it except for the dismal gas mileage. on the open road holding steady at 75mph its getting 10 mpg. thats the best it does! its got one of those headliner mounted information centers that can display the current mpg. i turned the dang thing off because i dont want to see sometimes single digits for my current mpg cruising down the open road!! plus with the cruise set and driving over some hilly terrain the transmission shifts up and down more than expected. oh and when i put it in four wheel drive the front steering seems like it really binds a lot. any opinions thanks!! -----= posted via feeds.com uncensored usenet =----- http//www.feeds.com - the #1 group service in the world! -----== over 100000 groups - 19 different servers! =----- .

fwpp witnessprotectionprogram@imnottelling.com wrote in snipped same here. the advantage is clearly rwd because the drive wheels are different from the steering wheels. joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 mustang 5.0 lx hatch with a few goodies actually that is what gives the rwd the disadvantage. with fwd the front wheels with the majority of weight pull in the direction you steer. if those front wheels are slipping the only place the car is going is out of control. no steering along with no drive traction = out of control. complete bull just because the front wheels are slipping doesnt mean that they have lost all traction just some of it. care to explain what partial traction is partial traction is a reduced traction force. perhaps you should look up the coefficient of friction and how it relates to static and moving sliding objects. if the tires lost all traction when they slide they would provide no force at all. this would mean that you could never do a donut or power slide and that a skidding car would never stop unless it hit something. when somthing is spinning it has lost traction. while true that is not completely correct. it has lost some traction not all. sometimes enough traction is lost where the force being applied is no longer enough to move the vehicle but that is not always the case. how many times did you light up the tires on your vette and i bet that it still moved. if all traction was lost then it would have just sat there and the tires would spin and never got warm. as long as you have friction you have traction. and the only question is do you have enough. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving now how much friction is there on snow or ice remember we were going round about control. and you can have the last on this one.g roy .

same here. the advantage is clearly rwd because the drive wheels are different from the steering wheels. just to throw a little gasoline on this discussion last sunday on speed channel they showed a rallye from sweden on snow. i only watched a couple minutes but sure looked like those cars had fwd the way the front tires were throwing rooster tails and those guys were really throwing the cars sideways and drifting the announcer claimed they hit 120 on the straights of snowpack now if having the front wheels drive and steer on snow/ice is bad those guys certainly dont subscribe to that theory whooooosh g sound of gasoline lighting i enjoy watching those road rally races. they are usually on dirt mud and/or snow. most of the cars are all wheel drive. lots of mods and you are right they fly! bill .

hi joe thanks for the input. what if i just want to replace the head unit and keep all else the same iow wire the new head to the infinity amp etc big deal does crutchfiels have a harness for it thanks. --mike all true. because the oem head unit infinity amp and factory crossovers are all hooked into the factory harness its necessary to rewire right from the new head unit to an aftermarket amp if applicable to the new crossovers and to the new speakers. its not a trivial job but probably worth it if the new components are decent. joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 5.0 mustang lx hatch with a few goodies azwiley1 azwiley1@spamearthblowslynk.net wrote in michael i have been doing car audio for almost 13 years a lot on and off but none the less i can tell you it is not as easy as just installing a new head unit. each vehicle is different. the problem lies here though if you install say the alpine cda-9811 am/fm/cd/mp3/wma player w/built in eq and crossover which is a 50x4 unit and you connect the amp trigger lines together guess what you just negated the power on the deck and are only using the amp in the truck. you have to completely by pass the amp in the truck by running new wires to the speakers to tapping in to the factory wires past the amp to use the features of the new unit. the same would apply if you added a new amp to the new deck. hope this helps and clears it up some. hi joe so would replacing the head unit be a simple exercise if the amp is seperate i want a unit that will play mp3s on a cd. the stock unit on my 03 will not. it is the infinity system btw. --mike iamgoode@aol.com iamgoode wrote in im looking to upgrade my factory stereo ive blown 3 infinity speakers now and im ready for something else. i want to replace the front speakers wtih better quality but the same size and put something a little larger in the back doors its a quad cab. my questions are does the back speaker set up have a cross over in the premium factory system would seperates or coaxial work better in the back anyone have luck running any larger speakers under the factory grilles recommended wattage ratings thanks. sean rec.bicycles.marketplace the 00 dak sound system is similar to the 03 which is what i have. the basic layout is this stock oem head unit about 5 watts/channel rms speaker leads feed the infinity amp about 15 watts/channel rms in the passenger kick panel which in turn drives the speakers. btw the infinity amp is very heavily eqd to compensate for the lousy speakers. in the cc the front speakers are components whereas the rears are simply coaxial. dont know about the qc rears but the fronts are the same. the crossovers are somewhere in the wiring between the speakers and the infinity amp which is garbage btw. assuming youre not going with a subwoofer your best bet is to get a new head unit an aftermarket amp if you can afford it and 4 component speakers. components will almost always sound better than coaxials - you just need adequate power for them. on the qc the woofer size is 6-3/4 all around. some components come with tweeters mounted in the woofer others have separate tweeters like the fronts in your qc. regardless theyll all have crossovers. either way youll be able to find components that can fit. also make sure you get adquate wiring based on your amps rating. joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 mustang 5.0 lx hatch with a few goodies .

last august there was a thread where i described how to wire up the fog lamps to come on with the ignition here is a copy of the post. good luck and dont forget to us a fuse. here are the specifics got an in-line fuse holder with a couple of inches of wire on each end. crimped on a set of lugs the same size as the pins on the relays and fuses. fuse #37 is a spare run fuse positrion. and pin 87 on the relay goes o the fog lamps and indicator. removed the relay and pluged in the jumper. with the ignition switch in the run position i have fog lamps. to reverse it just remove the jumper and reinstall the relay. on mon 9 feb 2004 134848 -0500 rchkthfm@bellsouth.net wrote i have a 99 quad-cab. when i turn on my lights i always pull out the light switch to turn on the fog driving lights. is there a way to rewire the fog lights to come on when i turn on my headlights. thanks .

id definately look into aluminum for both the brush guard and the steps. any kind of steel would be too heavy and could over-stress your frame to the point of failure. also make sure the grill guard doesnt impede the hood from opening in any way - since youre under the hood about as much as youre in the cab you dont want to be reaching over or around a big guard everytime you need to fix the damn engine. oh by the way - welcome back larry okay - all kidding aside ive always been partial to cps or chrome plated stainless. you get the best of both worlds - the durability and usually lifetime warranty of stainless with the protection and shine of chrome uncoated stainless tends to dull or yellow over time. make sure all the hardware is stainless as well. replace the stock hardware if its not stainless some companies cheap out. nothing looks worse than a nice shiny accessory with rusty bolts holding it on. .

replacing the tc takes about 550.00 in labor tranny shop just to remove and reinstall the tranny after the tc is replaced. been there done that. thats what the labor book calls for. you could actually do it in less time without completely pulling the tranny but i digress. the mechanic has to eat too. chris i have a 2001 ram 1500 4x4 with a bad torque converter. i bought the truck used and do not have a warranty. it has 42000 miles on it. the dealer says they have to remove the transmission to check the torque converter. they tell me this adds an additional cost of $700 because the seals will have to be replaced when it is reinstalled. another mechanic tells me that the dealer is lying to me and that he can check the torque converter without having to remove the transmission and can replace the converter without having to replace the seals. which one is telling the truth .

the drive gear wasnt changed but if the interface in the new tranny was different than the old one obviously that would make for the difference on the speedometer. so this must mean that the tranny senses speed off the speedo output as part of determining shift points anyhow i suppose that is a starting point. thanks scott the selectable speedo drive pinion gear matches the speed sensor output to the combination of rear axle gear ratio and tire diameter. it has nothing to do with shift points. the shift points are controlled in part by the throttle valve. the throttle valve is connected to the throttle by a cable or linkage that is adjustable. adjusting the throttle valve linkage/cable so that the lever on the transmission is further forward for any given throttle setting will cause the transmission to shift earlier. john .
