Should I repair or total?

Q: i would have to agree with lorne. especially with the frame having to be straightened. they may be able to get it back to acceptable spec but i bet it will never be the same. i would take the money and look for some thing else to drive!!! damage trucks are just not the same.. my 1998 dodge ram 2500 was in a collision last month in which i was t-boned by a car that ran a red light. theres extensive damage and the frame is bent. the insurance company first said that the truck was repairable but the 2nd inspector said they were going to total it. i assumed they were going to give me the blue book value of around $8000 so i asked them to please repair it instead. they agreed but mentioned that they had valued the vehicle at just over $13k. the repair estimate is $9055 and that doesnt include possibly replacing the dash until they pull the frame they wont know if the dash will pop back. should i have it repaired or take the total value truck is a 1998 v10 quad cab with only 69k miles. ive also added a bed liner trailer brake controller and a removable gooseneck hitch. im concerned about pulling my horses with this truck. also i could get a newer truck with similar features for around $15k. does totalling a car affect my insurance rates any more than repairing it will repairing it affect the long-term value or reliability help! .

i got a concrete floor that the top layer on concrete maybe 1/4 thick has flaked off over the last few years. the largest spot is maybe the size of a basketball and the underlaying concrete seems to be very solid. i see that quickcrete has a cleaner to remove the accumulated grease/oil a bonding agent to make it stick better and a vinyl concrete overlayment mix that you just add water and trowel it on.. am i on the right track how many spots or areas are lifting probably 10-12 in all. its the area thats under the engine/trans area of the work stall that takes a beating. the wheels of the tranny jack catch in them and makes it a bitch to roll. just a quick thought. you might want to skim the whole area so it will adhere better. also might want to drill into the existing cement in a bunch of places so the skim will sorta anchor itself. just a few small ones your all set with the plan you outlined. you will get a laugh out of this. a friend and i went for a 20mile ride with the atvs. real nice 50 degree day not much wind at all the sun was out im sure ya get the picture. anyway on the way back running about 25mph along this trail it takes a hard left and turns up hill. my buddy is ahead of me and i see his rooster tail as he makes the turn and hits the gas i get there start the turn and nail it and the left front hooks a log and up and over we go. i jump but the friggin atv rolls and follows me and it rolls quicker than i can. actually it stops rolling when it lands on my right leg all 600 ponds of it. now ive got this damn thing pinning me im trying to kick it off me with my other leg and shut it off at the same timedamn thing was still running. finally shut it down and got it off me but man does the ankle hurt. call my buddy who hasnt a clue where the hell i am he figured i went straight as i was so far off the trail into the bushs he couldnt see me or my machinenot to be confused with the machine that mac has. gotta love those cell phones. we flipped it back onto its wheels no damage to the quad. in fact it fired right up. made it home without further bs other than getting hung up crossing a stream but i winched my friend out. now my ankle is out like a tennis ball hurts to walk but sue made plans for us to go out to some party tonight maybe with a few drinks ill feel better.g who the hell am i kidding in the morning i know all the bumps and bruises will be screaming. just a example why ya never ride these things alone and the need for a cell phone on vibrate cause ya cant hear them over the engine. roy damn you left so many openings that i just cant count them all. but in light of your probably broken ankle that youll have checked out tomorrow when you cant even hobble out to the couch nah not broken i can put weight on it no problem. just sore and swollen. ill be a gentleman.......... bfg i know you are careful when riding but remember not to do stupid things on them. thursday night a 27 year old guy from around here got killed riding an atv down a railroad track after dark with no lights on. he hit another atv coming at him with no lights on either. shit happens but being stupid is well...stupid. yup stupid is stupid and no lights is real stupid. we use lights in the day time too. denny roy .

ah ok i was familar with the mechanical injectors. and the pre injection bit to quieten the engine. but was out of the dodge shop aparrently before word of a 3rd squirt was passed down my way anyways. and had me puzzling as to why there would be. thanks for the info. -- -chris 05 ctd 99 durango alright tom you have got my curiosity up......triple squirters from the first 12v 6bts through the last of the vp44-injected 24v isbs there has always been a single injection event hydraulically-actuated pump puts high pressure on the fuel line overcoming the spring in the injector and the injector pops off spraying fuel through the nozzle. with the advent of electrically-actuated injectors it became possible to have multiple injection events per combustion cycle. starting with the hpcr engine in 03 there was a pilot injection event which squirted a miniscule amount of fuel to begin the combustion process followed by the main injection event which delivered a much greater by comparison amount of fuel. its this pilot injection that had the most dramatic effect on quieting the engine. instead of all the fuel arriving essentially at the same time and exploding a much smalle

pilot injection. now when the main injection event occurs its more of a burn rather than a bang. that reduced the classic clatter noise of the diesel significantly provided more power and is probably a little kinder to the engine as well. starting in 04.5 cummins added a post-injection event - which has something to do with cleaning up the emissions yeah - go figure - they make it cleaner by spraying more diesel and the way things interact with the catalytic converter etc. etc. i dont understand it and frankly i dont want to. theres great interest in a programmer that can turn off this third event as it does nothing for power production. there may be a solution coming in the next several weeks out of italy... time will tell. at any rate theres your triple squirt - pilot injection main injection and post injection. .

alright tom you have got my curiosity up......triple squirters -- -chris 05 ctd 99 durango if not then no. i would ask tom lawrence he will know. actually mike will probably know better once he looks at the specifics. off-hand i would say the flash wont hurt your mileage and could very well improve it slightly dont get your hopes up - were talking less than 2mpg. many people with 04.5s have reported slightly better fuel economy with this particular flash. as i have an 03 i tend to not read as much about the triple-squirters since its not my problem if it were my truck id ask very nicely of the service manager to load this flash and perhaps even embellish a little on the amount of white smoke on startup - as thats what the main purpose of the tsb was. remember - its just a tsb - it doesnt mean youre automatically entitled to have the service dept. do whatever it says as you would be if it were a recall. .
