Q: with todays computer controlled engines can you go with a true dual exhaust probably not legally. see below. what are the advantages of true dual over catback with true duals you can adjust pipe diameter to tune the torque band of the engine e.g. - small pipe for better torque at low rpms while still maintaining good airflow for better horsepower at higher revs. if you go to true dual doesnt the catalytic convertor only monitor one bank yes unless you use two cats one for each bank. this usually isnt done because 1 cats are expensive and most people wouldnt pay for the second one and 2 cats need to get hot quick in order to do their job..... a single cat will warm up much quicker than the same amount of gases flowing through two cats. probably the only practical legal way around that issueis some sort of preheating unit on each cat. if not done properly it may make the computer hiccup. is it better to go with a catback and a low restriction catalytic convertor than a true dual exhaust financially it is better. for a legal system youll run into some money and most new vehicles arent designed for a good true dual system fuel tank in the way no room for h-pipe unequal pipe lengths etc.. if money is no object then true duals are the better way to go. .
