nirodac yar nirodac@hotmail.com wrote in both previous posters are correct. the plug/switch should not have over heated this can be an indication of a fault. have you added additional lights to the headlite circuit do check for wiring problems. if you find no problems then yes a properly rated toggle switch will work just fine. what it is 1995 ram 1500 4x4 v8-360 automatic transmission problem 1. im not much of a mechanic. 2. i know its kinda old but i really like it. 2. several months ago the headlight switch had a melt-down. my headlights suddenly just went off one night. i turned them off and then back on. they seemed to be working normally. a few weeks later the lights went out again. the problem became more frequent. i decided to take a look at the switch. the part of the switch behind the dashboard had many connectors parking lights interior lights etc but part of the assembly looked like it had melted. the oem replacement was about $100 so i bought the $30 one from napa. this is the part of the switch that plugs in to the female piece at the end of a bundle of wires behind the dash. this did not fix the problem - i think the end of the wire bundle was damaged during the melt-down. this whole problem also disabled my dash lights which the new part didnt fix either. a few weeks ago i decided to look at the switch again. i pushed the headlight wire out through the female end of the switch connected it to the male part wrapped it with electrical tape to isolate it and then pushed the whole assembly back together. the lights worked without going out for a few weeks but then started doing the same thing again. i can drive for an hour or so and then the headlights will just go out. sometimes just for a few seconds sometimes out completely. at this point i can turn them off and back on and they will work for a while and then go out again. question can i bypass this switch and splice the headlight wire & a power wire to a plain old toggle switch problems like that are easy to isolate all you need is a good multimeter that can check for shorts. if you do not feel comfortable in troubleshooting electrical problems take it to a shop that specializes in automotive electrical repair. your problem could be anywhere within in the wire bundle. most problems are shorts to ground. if you experienced a melt down no telling how many other wires for other systems were affected. i can assure you from my 40 years as an aircraft electrician that you have more serious problems. take the time to isolate it and fix it correctly. locutus .

davidj01@hasnoaddress.com writes ramman im looking at the site right now and am wondering if the delphi sa10112 fm modulator adapter is what you used also does anyone know if a special antenna adapter will be necessary for the stock am/fm/cd radios in an 05 2500. i seem to remember reading that dodge did not use a standard antenna jack... sorry if i didnt make myself clear. i did not use the fm adapter. after hearing the fidelity was no better than that of an ordinary fm station i wanted more and so wired mine in direct to the aux amplifier inputs of my pioneer am/fm/cd system. wired direct the fidelity is still not cd quality but is much better than fm. higher highs lower lows. .

jason g wrote i just bought a 2000 dakota last week that came with the towing package. im having difficulty determining just what that means besides the hitch receiver. from my guesstimation and net research it means heavy duty rear brakes and a 3.55 rear end anything else i also put it to work this weekend hauling a yard of bulk topsoil. from what the guy said at the place it probably weighed around 1800 pounds so i know it was a leetle overloaded even though the 4.7v8 powered along like it was a piece of cake. the truck was very noticeably sagging on the ass end but more bothersome was when i went over a small water channel dip in the street at about 15-20mph and the damn thing bounced front-to-back like crazy even banged the rear bumper on the ground. so the question is do i need new shocks or springs or was this just because i had exceeded the specified load i did the bounce-on-the-bumper test and it seemed a bit loose but i dont know how bouncy these trucks are right out of the box. the truck has just over 100000 miles on it. thanks for any insight. the tow package for all three top sellers are just a little different. but usually consist of a wiring bundle that all you have to do is connect up the brake controller and you are electrically ready to hook up. of course the frame mounted hitch platform. some units have oil coolers and larger radiators as well as larger transmission coolers for auto trans. there are also the towing mirrors but are not part of the towing package on the 04 ram. the engine and rear end are matched more for loads or towing but can vary. i dont think the dakota would be revered as a towing truck quite like a ram. bill p. the tow package usually includes a larger alternator as well. my 04 durango does. frank .

also now that im not relying on the xm antenna to broadcast to the radio antenna i can mount the xm antenna further toward the rear of the cab and bring the wiring in through the lamp above the rear window would you agree if it makes you happy yes i still think its easier routing it via the windshield .

my 97 dakota with about 80000 miles was at the dodge dealer getting some minor service recently and my service rep and tech said the truck needs 2 things based on their observation 1 flush brake fluid which was never done before 2 clean throttle body. i dont do these kinds of things myself so i want to know whether i should have the dealer do it $120 for #1 and $139 for #2 or is this simple enough to have any mechanic do it much cheaper...though i dont know any actually other than the dodge dealer. .

i got a 2004 dodge w/4.10 rear end. not too bad on desiel fuel. i get about 16.64 avg. per gal. i have a 96 dakota v6 3.9 that i bought used. the gas mileage in town is 12-13 mpg. after checking all the other possible causes and then looking at the hitch it came with and the boat harbor sticker on the window i am guessing that it might have a towing rear end gear setup that is responsible for the low mileage. i figured that i could put a chalk mark on the drive shaft and on the tire jack it up and get an idea of the gear set in the truck. i thought that if the drive shaft turned four times for one rotation of the wheel it meant i had a gear set roughly 4.0. apparently i am barking up the wrong tree. it did not work out that way. so how do i determine the ratio of the gear installed. i do not believe that the original gears are still in it. oldtimer .

again. i pushed the headlight wire out through the female end of the switch connected it to the male part wrapped it with electrical tape to isolate it and then pushed the whole assembly back together. the lights worked without going out for a few weeks but then started doing the same thing again. i can drive for an hour or so and then the headlights will just go out. sometimes just for a few seconds sometimes out completely. at this point i can turn them off and back on and they will work for a while and then go out again. question can i bypass this switch and splice the headlight wire & a power wire to a plain old toggle switch .
