indeed mike. as far back as 94 with an old v10 power factory the manual explicitly noted the transmission workaround for cold temps. ya gotta get in touch with the folks who do the writing of the manuals for dc and tell them to use more pictures. indeed! the truly sad part is i see this on an almost daily basis. perhaps im strange but i simply cannot fathom anyone who would spend something north of $30k and not take to time to spend some time reading about their investment. even though i work around these vehicles every day when i purchase one for my own use i read the manual from cover to cover and i never fail to learn something i didnt know. the best way to maximize your enjoyment from this major purchase is to take the time to read about it in the owners manual. your will learn how to work all the gizmos whats normal and whats not and most of all how to maintain it properly! my philosophy is that if it costs more than 50 bucks and it comes with a manual read the damned thing! climbing down from my soapbox thank you very much! mike -- pcolaphil to reply remove -spamnot- we have slept so long next to the sewer we can no longer smell the stench. | | | | or you could read the owners manual sigh...... | | mike | | | | | .

i live in nj and work in nyc and have never had a fuel gelling problem in mine. i make often trips to the pocono mountains in the winter and usually use a little howes anti-jell for the mountains. often i have woken up to -15f up there. i only put it in if the forcast is for single digits and under. .

has anyone had the same experience i am relatively new to dodge truck. i have a new 04 ram 1500 quad cab with 4200 mile on it that is kept in a heated garage. tuesday i went to work... the truck was out in the weather the temp never got above 5 degrees all day. when driving home the trans mission wouldnt shift into the highest gear until the truck was driven at least 2-3 miles. for a heavy dutytype vehicle i would have thought a little cold wouldnt have effected it. has anyone else experienced this is it a problem that that should be grought to the dealer maybe just leave the truck outdoors to tougen it up ; thanks in advance for your response. jem .

steve....i too am a first time diesel owner. i have the 04 ram 2500. a few people told me to add the edge in line computer and a 4 inch exhaust to maximize engine output but the dealer told me the computer add-on would void my warranty. are the things you added similar items and what is your dealers stance on your warranty thanks tony the dodge cummins combination is fabulous. i bought an 04 3500 dually. it has the full banks kit exhaust high ram six gun and speedloader complete with gauges. it goes like a freightliner on steroids and on my last tank got 18.1 mpg. this truck weighs 3480 kgs empty. it is quiet. it handles. no rattles. instantaneous throttle response. top of the line brakes. it is a super super truck. try one you wont believe how nice they are. steve i have been thinking of getting a 2500 ram diesel. some owners have told me about a lot of trouble with the fuel pump. has anyone else had any problems with the pump. also is there any other down side or other problems to the diesel besides been more expense to do oil changes. thanks .

the problem is the more the demand goes up the less the price will drop. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving davidj01 wrote although ive had my diesel truck for just a couple of months ive kept my eye on diesel fuel costs for the past year knowing i was in the market. generally diesel has been priced at or about the cost of premium. but here in kc ive noticed the price of diesel has been at $1.79 which is the cost of our regular leaded gas +/- .05. hopefully it stays that way... david i hope your wrong ................. normally diesel will be 15-20 cents below regular gasoline. i look for it to drop again around april or may. jerry .

t wrote i have an 04 ram 2500 cummins ho diesel. im in nyc so the winters are cold but below 15 degrees is a rarity. do i need any feul additives someone said a can of dry gas can never hurt now and then. i also saw a bottle of cetane in the auto store which said it would prevent geling and of course all the other product rhetoric about improved engine performance. i was more concerned about the geling. if anyone has an opinion please let e know. thanks tony read http//www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/faq/coldwx.htm .
