SOLVED -- Homemade Audio CDs do not play well (1999 dodge ram 1500)
From : ignoramus24807
Q: this is a follow to my previous message complaining that homemade copies of music cds did not play in my 1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup trucks cd player. they sort of could play but it would take the player up to 5 minutes to start playing time that was spent searching for the track. i heard creaking in the cd player obviously unacceptable. the answer was simple. i had to switch from 80 minute cdrs to 74 minute cdrs. the 74 minute ones work great. i just copied a cd with russian wwii songs and it worked beautifully. that specific disk could not play before. i suppose that the trucks player cannot find the table of contents on the 80 minute cdr. since i also experimented with different writing speeds the one that i just tried was recorded with 1x speed. i will now try a cdr recorded at the faster speed to see if speed is an additional issue. the brand that is working is 74 minute tdk cd-r discs. so heres exactly what works 74 minute tdk cdr recorded at 1x speed. i will try to record at differing speeds and also buy different media to ensure that it is indeed the disk capacity issue and not a media issue. i have ruled recording speed out as a sole cause of the problem since 80 minute disks recorded at 1x speed did not work. thanks to all people for your attempts to help. i .

actually it very well could be a capacity issue. iirc they increase capacity by burning closer to the center hub and if his laser is having a hard time getting to and reading that part of the disk he will get the type of errors he is describing -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving on 25 dec 2003 205108 gmt ignoramus24807 ignoramus24807@nospam.24807.invalid wrote i really dont think that the cd capacity was the problem but it really doesnt matter since that solved the problem for now... as long as you use 74s and they work it doesnt really matter why... this is a follow to my previous message complaining that homemade copies of music cds did not play in my 1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup trucks cd player. they sort of could play but it would take the player up to 5 minutes to start playing time that was spent searching for the track. i heard creaking in the cd player obviously unacceptable. the answer was simple. i had to switch from 80 minute cdrs to 74 minute cdrs. the 74 minute ones work great. i just copied a cd with russian wwii songs and it worked beautifully. that specific disk could not play before. i suppose that the trucks player cannot find the table of contents on the 80 minute cdr. since i also experimented with different writing speeds the one that i just tried was recorded with 1x speed. i will now try a cdr recorded at the faster speed to see if speed is an additional issue. the brand that is working is 74 minute tdk cd-r discs. so heres exactly what works 74 minute tdk cdr recorded at 1x speed. i will try to record at differing speeds and also buy different media to ensure that it is indeed the disk capacity issue and not a media issue. i have ruled recording speed out as a sole cause of the problem since 80 minute disks recorded at 1x speed did not work. thanks to all people for your attempts to help. i mac .

are the burnable surfaces on the disks the same color some players respond better to different colors than others. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving on 25 dec 2003 205108 gmt ignoramus24807 ignoramus24807@nospam.24807.invalid wrote i really dont think that the cd capacity was the problem but it really doesnt matter since that solved the problem for now... as long as you use 74s and they work it doesnt really matter why... well i use the same cd writer high writing speed etc. the only variable that changes was that i use different brand disks with different capacity. so it could be either a brand issue or a capacity issue. i would pick capacity as the more likely issue. i this is a follow to my previous message complaining that homemade copies of music cds did not play in my 1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup trucks cd player. they sort of could play but it would take the player up to 5 minutes to start playing time that was spent searching for the track. i heard creaking in the cd player obviously unacceptable. the answer was simple. i had to switch from 80 minute cdrs to 74 minute cdrs. the 74 minute ones work great. i just copied a cd with russian wwii songs and it worked beautifully. that specific disk could not play before. i suppose that the trucks player cannot find the table of contents on the 80 minute cdr. since i also experimented with different writing speeds the one that i just tried was recorded with 1x speed. i will now try a cdr recorded at the faster speed to see if speed is an additional issue. the brand that is working is 74 minute tdk cd-r discs. so heres exactly what works 74 minute tdk cdr recorded at 1x speed. i will try to record at differing speeds and also buy different media to ensure that it is indeed the disk capacity issue and not a media issue. i have ruled recording speed out as a sole cause of the problem since 80 minute disks recorded at 1x speed did not work. thanks to all people for your attempts to help. i mac .

actually it very well could be a capacity issue. iirc they increase capacity by burning closer to the center hub and if his laser is having a hard time getting to and reading that part of the disk he will get the type of errors he is describing that was my thought exactly. the reader could not reach the table of contents toc on the high capacity disk so instead it had 6o quickly scan the entire disk which is time consuming and produced that creaking sound. i .

i currently play 80 min sony cd-r audio cds. i n my 98 1500 quad 5.9 slt lariate with the upper end audio system for that year/model. i found out through much trial and effort that the only discs that will work in my truck are the any brand silver or gold top with the bluish tint underside. some writable cds have a greener tint underside but they didnt work. record speed hasnt been an issue. good luck this is a follow to my previous message complaining that homemade copies of music cds did not play in my 1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup trucks cd player. they sort of could play but it would take the player up to 5 minutes to start playing time that was spent searching for the track. i heard creaking in the cd player obviously unacceptable. the answer was simple. i had to switch from 80 minute cdrs to 74 minute cdrs. the 74 minute ones work great. i just copied a cd with russian wwii songs and it worked beautifully. that specific disk could not play before. i suppose that the trucks player cannot find the table of contents on the 80 minute cdr. since i also experimented with different writing speeds the one that i just tried was recorded with 1x speed. i will now try a cdr recorded at the faster speed to see if speed is an additional issue. the brand that is working is 74 minute tdk cd-r discs. so heres exactly what works 74 minute tdk cdr recorded at 1x speed. i will try to record at differing speeds and also buy different media to ensure that it is indeed the disk capacity issue and not a media issue. i have ruled recording speed out as a sole cause of the problem since 80 minute disks recorded at 1x speed did not work. thanks to all people for your attempts to help. i .
