here is a thought for you educated. it scared the hell out of me. there was an article in the usa today talking about iraqs oil reserves and then went on to state that saudi arabia had around 221bil barrels of estimated reserve which was about 1/4 of the worlds total. estimated would be more than proven it then went on to state the worlds current daily demand. the article really had nothing to do with development or conservation it really just stated facts and numbers. i think it actually was concerned more with what iraq was producing now versus before the war. i was bored so i crunched the numbers. saudi arabias estimated reserve times four divided by current daily demand times 365. the resulting number was 35.69 years of crude oil. that scared the hell out of me. i had never thought about it before. the usa has an estimated reserve of around 22bil barrels. with our current demand that would last us seven years. i am not a greenie or an eco freak. just a guy with a webtv a usa today and a wal-mart calculator. but the numbers are there you can find them all on the internet im sure. run them through your own calculator and they are startling and hard to refute. given that 40% of all of the usas total energy and 90% of energy for transportation comes from crude oil it really gives a person food for thought. i wrote both my senator rhetorical form letter reply and my congressman no reply to see what was being done given the gravity of the situation. not a whole hell of a lot from what i can tell. i am not one to tell anyone what to drive. in fact i really dont care what other people drive. i am 47 and smoke like a steamship. the odds are good that there will still be oil around when they haul my sorry ass to the cemetery in whatever cadillac produces that year. my only point...if in fact i have one...is that your grandkids will probably really enjoy your stories about the good ol days of big engined gasoline motoring. .

i have a 98 honda civic hx. i get over 50 miles per gallon. i go to the gas station with well over 500 miles sometimes 600 miles on the trip meter pay less than $20 and get another full tank. i love it. and if you are concerned it is manufactured right here in ohio. so hondas are american now .
