can someone tell me where i can find instructions on how to properly remove the front rotors have hunted around and can find no information on this. a google group search probably would have turned up several posts on this but heres the short version - remove wheel and tire - remove cotter pin from axle shaft - remove axle nut from axle shaft. have someone stand on the brakes to keep the wheel from turning or wedge a large screwdriver into the rotor so it jams against the brake caliper - remove the brake caliper via two 3/8 allen-head bolts from the inboard side. tie caliper up out of the way with wire or bungee so no strain is plac3ed on the brake hose - remove four hub-to-knuckle bolts from the inboard side of the hub. these are 14mm 12-point bolts so youll need a 12-point socket - using a hub puller pull the hub/rotor assembly off of the knuckle and axle shaft. alternatively the rotor/hub/axle shaft can be removed carefully as an assembly and separated on the bench. - press the wheel studs out of the hub. if no press is available put the lug nuts back on a few threads so the stud and lug are flush. tap the studs out with a hammer. - press the hub off of the rotor. press from the inside out. if no press is available a hammer and a block of wood will get the job done. you now have the rotor separated from the hub. re-assemble in reverse order press hub onto new rotor press wheel studs back in re-mount hub/rotor on knuckle re-bolt hub to knuckle with four 12-point bolts re-install brake caliper re-install and re-torque axle nut install new cotter pin. torque on the four hub-to-knuckle bolts is 125ft.lbs. torque on the axle nut is 175 ft.lbs. .

behind the steering knuckle there are 4 bolts. they take a 12 point 14mm socket. 9/16 will work but 14mm will fit better. take these four bolts out after removing the caliper and caliper fixture. then get the biggest mf sledge hammer you can find and beat your ass off trying to knock these things out for the first time. go ahead and take the tie rod end loose also so you can swivel the steering knuckle back and forth faster and eaiser. after it comes out axle and all you can then remove the big axle nut and slide the axle out if you want it out of the way. this is optional. then knock all the wheel studs out and the rotor will be free of the hub. put the new rotor in place after wire brushing the hub where it was rusted into the steering knuckle and coat it with copious amounts of antisieze so it can be done with a smaller hammer next time. set the studs back in place with a drift and hammer using the wheel as long as its not aluminum as a jig to hold the whole mess. then slide it all back in dont forget that splash shield and hold yer mouth just right and start those 4 bolts back in. probably a good idea to replace that non greasable ujoint whilst yer there. -- steve barker ========= hi there can someone tell me where i can find instructions on how to properly remove the front rotors have hunted around and can find no information on this. perhaps someone can send me a link or details on how to remove and then install new front rotors thanks! lynn .

i used information found here http//www.geocities.com/palmerlivestock/rotorhubservice.html when i did mine. using a deep socket wedged between the hub and steering knuckle and then slowly turning the steering wheel popped mine right off; no muss no fuss no bfh required... behind the steering knuckle there are 4 bolts. they take a 12 point 14mm socket. -- steve barker ========= hi there can someone tell me where i can find instructions on how to properly remove the front rotors have hunted around and can find no information on this. perhaps someone can send me a link or details on how to remove and then install new front rotors thanks! lynn .
