Repalcing engine
From : terry cano
Q: my 1997 dakota has a 4 banger 2.5 i think ohv not ohc. it will have 130000 by the end of this week. i would like to replace the engine in a year or so with a v6 if posibile providing the mounting bell housing etc will bolt up.... if not ill replace the 4 banger. im also concerned about ca regulations... i switched out a motor in a chevy once and had to jump through some major hoops to get it smoged. it passed but they where giving me static about not the original engine. any suggestions terry .

have to figure that when you come out the door in the morning and you look at a truck that ya think is bugly ya wont be happy no matter what engine is under the hood. roy . 222 285919 y4gmc.671$qt3.325@nwrddc03.gnilink.net says... if you really want a nice truck for power with semi-decent fuel economy find a 4.7l or 318 5.2l v8 dakota. it wont have the insurance issues the dakota r/t 5.9l has but itll actually get out of its own way. i dont know about the 4.7l but i wouldnt get the 5.2l if youre worried about fuel economy. i love my 5.2l dakota but its a thirsty little workhorse. .

ill give you a bit of advice dont. sell the truck buy a 3.9l v6 dak. itll cost you half of what a swap will in the end and itll drive properly. if you really want a nice truck for power with semi-decent fuel economy find a 4.7l or 318 5.2l v8 dakota. it wont have the insurance issues the dakota r/t 5.9l has but itll actually get out of its own way. js terry cano wrote my 1997 dakota has a 4 banger 2.5 i think ohv not ohc. it will have 130000 by the end of this week. i would like to replace the engine in a year or so with a v6 if posibile providing the mounting bell housing etc will bolt up.... if not ill replace the 4 banger. im also concerned about ca regulations... i switched out a motor in a chevy once and had to jump through some major hoops to get it smoged. it passed but they where giving me static about not the original engine. any suggestions terry .
