ive got a 98 ram 5.9l that has started giving me problems. in the morning the engine turns over and stumbles like it has run out of gas. after about 30 seconds of constant starting has to use the jumper cables it begins to start like a wwii piston engine plane and then starts running. once started the engine runs fine and can sit and start without a problem. its just the over night sitting that the problem occurs. i replaced the coil. no change. im thinking that maybe it has fuel line leak and is slowly losing fuel pressure overnight. is this possible. i would think that leaving the ignition on would run the fuel pump and build up pressure again but it doesnt appear to happen. or is the fuel pump going bad. my son seems to think the fuel filter is to blame. any ideas on this problem. .

my 98 ram 1500 5.9l speedometer has a mind of its own. the needle pegs at 0 until i reach a speed of about 30-40 mph and then it starts working. drop below that and it goes to 0. any repair info would be most appreciated. .

thanks bob ... sounds like there is definetely something in common here ... the interlock mechanism for the park position pawl either jams in the open position causing the roll aways or jams in the closed position causing the shifter to jam in park. noticed there seems to be direct metal to metal contact on the sliding surfaces for this mechanism. wonder if they are putting in some type of bushing material between these metal surfaces with the recall replacement parts fred fred wrote with the recent fun ive had with my 2001 dakota shifter jamming in the park position im wondering if anyone in the group has had the work done on their units regarding the following recall chrysler is recalling 576418 my 2001-2002 dakota durango ram van and my 2002 ram pick-up trucks equipped with automatic transmissions. the ignition/park shift interlock system may become inoperative. anyone know what parts they are replacing in this recall and if it has any affect on the jamming in park position of the column shifter tia fred the issue with this recall is that the mechanism will allow you to remove the key with the trans not all the way in park. so it allowed the trans to slip back into reverse and roll away. -------- .bob 2006 fxdi hot rod 2008 mustang coupe 2001 dodge dakota qc 5.9/4x4/3.92 1965 ffr cobra - 427w efi damn fast. .

roy ... im using the term pawl or lever blocker stem in the steering column that locks the shift lever in the park position.. fred thanks for the heads up on that recall repair mac ... thinking id be passing on that recall repair. hoping someone can enlighten us on what parts they are replacing on that recall item. still curious as well if anyone knows what moves the parking pawl out of the way when the key is turned on ... thinking its just the mechanical action caused by tuning the key with an assist from the spring attached to the parking pawl. fred i believe the pawl is internal and is moved by the action of the linkage. .

the recall for the dakota is for the shifter lever has nothing to do with horn. the dealer cannot eliminate the out of park alarm from your vehicle because it is a software update and they do not have the capability to reverse flash your instrument cluster. the reason the horn honks is because the door is open while backing up. simply use a screw driver to close the latch if you want to back up with the door open. or rewire the door ajar switch so that it is permanently closed circuit. but your dome lights will not work with the door opening. bryan on sat 13 dec 2008 164648 -0500 fred fxxallen@shaw.ca wrote with the recent fun ive had with my 2001 dakota shifter jamming in the park position im wondering if anyone in the group has had the work done on their units regarding the following recall chrysler is recalling 576418 my 2001-2002 dakota durango ram van and my 2002 ram pick-up trucks equipped with automatic transmissions. the ignition/park shift interlock system may become inoperative. anyone know what parts they are replacing in this recall and if it has any affect on the jamming in park position of the column shifter tia fred i only know of on truck a 2002 ram 3/4 that had the recall done and he hates it.. for some reason instead of a real safety device they made the horn honk if the truck thinks that youre in park with the keys in.. ever since he had it done the truck honks the horn like the panic button does about 1 out of every 4 or 5 times that he backs up.. very annoying in rv parks and not a real bonus to our neighborhood.. hes had it back to the dealer several time to be fixed but they wont remove it since its a safety item.. we chose not to get the recall done on our 01 dakota.. mac please remove splinters before emailing .

the part that is replaced for the recall. is the piece that the shift handle attaches topivot. if it was done incorrectly they may have bent the sliding piece that connects the key cylinder to the shifter pivot. if you are having problems with the key or getting the shifter out of park after the recall was performed i would have the dealer look at that point again. be prepared to authorize a diagnosis charge its the american way not my fault it wasnt me attitude. dont forget it is your car and your responsibility. the interlock can be defeated to eliminate the problem with the shifter. but then you created on bye not ensuring that the key has to be on to shift it out of park or leaving it in between park and reverse with the key out and having the car rollaway. good luck bryan with the recent fun ive had with my 2001 dakota shifter jamming in the park position im wondering if anyone in the group has had the work done on their units regarding the following recall chrysler is recalling 576418 my 2001-2002 dakota durango ram van and my 2002 ram pick-up trucks equipped with automatic transmissions. the ignition/park shift interlock system may become inoperative. anyone know what parts they are replacing in this recall and if it has any affect on the jamming in park position of the column shifter tia fred .

jeep wrote what controls oil pressure in a 3.9l 1994 dokata after having the oil changed the oil filter cartridge was balloned out. ive been having problems with low or zero oil pressure. at first the delership said it was sludge build-up. now im not too sure. it has 120k miles on the engine. ive put a new oil sending unit on with a mechanical gauge teed into the unit. going down the freeway @ 55 mph i noticed the gauge read 0 psiand the light came on shortly.having no place to pull overi continued home about 20 miles. no knocking or rod knockbut i am concerned that this could happen again. oil level ok. whats wrong pressure is controlled by a relief spring in the oil pump. high pressure pumps have a stiffer spring. worn out bearings seals and oil pumps can also cause low pressure. if the filter was balooned out that means the pump is capable of producing a good amount of pressure. but its getting stuck in the filter. most likely whoever is changing your oil is using the cheapest/worst filter available. probably a fram. switch to a quality filter purolater wix napa gold. if your gauge is reading 0psi but the engine is running fine you probably have a bad pressure sensor. get a real gauge like autometer and see what your pressure actually is. -- ..bob 2006 fxdi hot rod 2001 dodge dakota qc 5.9/4x4/3.92 1966 mustang coupe - daily driver 1965 ffr cobra - 427w efi damn fast. .
