Rear end noise Update!!!
From : msyjsy
Q: do you all remember my post last week about the ratcheting noise in my differential some things have happened that are very interesting and i thought i would share them with you. everybody recommended this particular rear end guy but he could not get to it for awhile and so i went looking for another small town. looked in the book specifically for someone that advertised diff. service. you dont want just anybody putting their fingers in your rear-end. found someone that had the time to look at it on the spot. he took it for a drive and when he returned he asked me if i had the fluid changed recently. yes is the first thing i do when i buy is go to a fast lube and change everything was my reply. he said he gets so much business that way they had neglected to put a clutch conditioner in the diff. he pulled the cover inspected it everything looked really good put it all back together put conditioner in it and filled it. told me to give it the weekend to do the job the noise has not come back since i left the shop. here is the kicker. i was hearing another kind of noise from the rear. i was trying to find some rhyme or reason as to when it appeared i swore that it was only doing it when it had been driven for 45 minutes or more. it was a growl and i could feel it sometimes when i turned other times when i backed up. and when i would shake the truck from side to side i could hear a looseness in the rear. so anyway shock absorbers were on my to-do list and some dumb-ass designed the top mounts on the rear you have to make room to get a 1/2 offset between the frame and the bottom of the bed. so i was driving myself nuts trying to figure out how to release the spare tire from under the bed have no owners manual and never owned a dodge truck.that hole in the bumper i thought had something to do with trailer wiring but you stick the lug wrench in there and turn it to lower the spare. thought that was pretty stupid but only because i felt stupid for not figuring it out for so long is actually pretty convenient. anyway i get the tire near the ground and look in on top of the rim and there are three rocks that had been rolling around on the rim. so i took them out and just out of curiosity i hoisted the tire back up and tried to fit the rocks back in they would not go. i concluded that someone must have put them there on purpose just to mess with my head but i never met that dealer until the day i bought the truck conspiracy -- from the desk of jesse a. harrington .

thanks clyde the thought that positive pressure in the air duct might blow gas out one of the ports in the carb had crossed my mind. perhaps the best that can be done is to get an aftermarket air filter housing that is completely open so that the filter element is completely exposed. as it is the airflow is constricted down to just a few square inches at the narrowest point. im off to performance plus to see what they have. see yall later. jack clyde wrote on mon 14 jun 2004 130351 -0700 jack zzz@xxx.net wrote does anyone have an opinion on whether i can expect any improvement in power or gas mileage from an electric fan placed inside the flexible plastic duct that feeds air into the air filter housing this is a carbed engine jack i doubt seriously if there is a 12v electric fan manufactured that will fit into that air duct and supply the air volume that you would need. instead of helping it would obstruct the air flow. read the k&n filter threads about what awful things happen if you obstruct the air flow .... if the fan existed it would draw so many amps that it would put an additional load on your alternator that would eat up any boost that you are thinking about. if you did manage to pressurize that duct it would blow air backwards through the carburetor jets a
