Ram 2500 Ouad Cab Tires

Q: marty stewartson wrote good day all i am looking for input on tires for my 01 ram 2500 quad cab truck with a cummins diesel. i am tired of all the tire web sitessalesmen etc and thought i would ask the group which tires you have had the best luck with. most of my driving is highwayrainsnow sometimes deepsome driving through nevada in the summeretc and pull a car trailer a lot.i hated the oem michelins they were crap in the rain and not much better in the snow. i appreciate all the help i have had on previous issues and thought i would try this one..thanks in advance.... the oem michelins are ltx a/s. they have lousy traction in rain and clog up in snow. the ltx m/s are the tires ive ever had for all around driving. they stick like glue in the snow. theyre expensive but last 60k+ easily. if you drive quite a bit in the snow or off road then the ltx a/ts might be worth a look. the a/ts downfall is more road noise and most likely slightly lower mpg. i also like michelins cross terrain but i dont believe they have them in the higher load ratings. i have them on my durango and take it in the snow every winter. ive got the michelins ltx a/s on my ram and they are lousy. terrible wet and snow traction and the sidewalls are cracking badly. goodyear has just introduced and excellent heavy truck tire the wrangler silent armor. that will be my tire of choice for my ram in the near future. mike .

very true. i am trying this one out for size. this is the first time for me an synthetics but i also went with someone elses experience with this product. a couple of long time friends have been using this stuff for some time and swear by it. i figure the hassle alone of changing the oil and filter is worth the extra money up front. it generally costs me around $20 for each change and at 3500 miles each that comes to about 7 oil/filter changes at $20 ea equals $140 plus the hassles. $50 for one oil change during the same amount of time with the hassle of just one just simple sense. it may not work but im going to try it. at even 2 of the synthetic oil changes during the same miles is worth it. a discussion of various oil brands their prices characteristics and other opinions about them always reminds of what happens when two guys sit down at the bar drinking beer and begin discussing the merits of various beers. .

been lurking for several years and havent posted very much stuff so out of lurk mode. wapita! i guess i cant complain since they are original 112k on the odometer. soaked the crap out of all bolts with pj-1 for two days it helped but still the front shocks were a bear. the design of the upper shock mounting system is not bad but when you put ac lines on one side and brake lines and wires on the other side in the way what the heck is up with that. the rears shocks were a piece of cake compared to the front shocks. also installed some perelli scorpion atr 265/75-16 over the weekend. the last set were goodyear 235/75-16 had 40k on them but were not very good on wet pavement from day one. i love this truck 318 v-8 5-speed transmission std cab short bed a good solid truck all around. last year 100k i dropped the transmission the clutch was starting to slip and i had been pretty brutal on the clutch during off roading over the years. yep the clutch plates were shot and the flywheel needed to be resurfaced glad it wasnt warped. well since i had everything out i replaced the rear engine seal front and rear transmission seals and the transfer case seals. i didnt replace the u-joints probably should have but they were in good shape and are easy to change. unlike the shop manual i changed the supposed lift time transmission fluid at the same intervals as the transfer case. i dont use the ram as the daily driver anymore i use my motorcycle but in winter i revert back to the ram. we dont get a lot of snow here in southern maryland but when we do it can be a humdinger. coasty .

i pay a little less that $50 for an oil change of 100% synthetic 10w-30 6 qts. and 25k mile filter. i change oil and filter about once every 12-18 months. it costs way more than that to change oil and filter with regular stuff every 3500 miles - not to mention all the hassle involved of just getting it done. plus i was also able to pick up 1 mpg using synthetic as opposed to regular oil. http//www.amsoil.com quick question what do you guys pay for a case 12 quarts of standard motor oil e.g. 10w-30 went to buy a case tonight. stopped at autozone. they wanted $38. either prices have gone way up or i havent paid attention the last few times i bought oil. o. .

mike simmons wrote i hear you! thats why ive put up with the a/s that came on the truck for the last five years. when the snow and ice come infrequently i park the ram and drive something else. i still have a lot of tread left at 65k miles but now that the sidewalls are cracking i can now justify getting rid of em and putting on a set of goodyears. i cant figure out why dodge went with the a/s tires. they are about the same price retail as the m/s or a/ts which are far better tread design. dodge did the same thing with goodyear tires. they put on wrangler r/s tires which have zero traction in the snow yet cost about the same as far better goodyears. .

i have bridgstone dueler a/ts on mine. run smooth on the hwy and a good affordable tire. you can get them from firestone. marty stewartson wrote good day all i am looking for input on tires for my 01 ram 2500 quad cab truck with a cummins diesel. i am tired of all the tire web sitessalesmen etc and thought i would ask the group which tires you have had the best luck with. most of my driving is highwayrainsnow sometimes deepsome driving through nevada in the summeretc and pull a car trailer a lot.i hated the oem michelins they were crap in the rain and not much better in the snow. i appreciate all the help i have had on previous issues and thought i would try this one..thanks in advance.... i put pathfinder all terrain 265/75-16s discount tire house brand on my 99 ram 2500 quad cab diesel. they do good in mud and arent too bad in the rain. it hasnt snowed in atlanta since i got them two years ago so i cant say how theyd do for you in the winter. they were a pain to have balanced. discount tire had to try eight different tires before they could get a set of four to balance right. i think next time im going with the bfg radal all terrain t/a. there arent many all terrain tire choices in 265/75-16 that have the load range e rating. if you have the stock 16 x 6.5 wheels i dont think you can go any bigger than that size. -- ken .

i run cooper discoverers. they will last me about 35k but usually change them at 25k because i prefer a deep tread in winter. they get a great bite in snow and mud. rain doesnt affect them at all. road noise is minimal. at $125 a tire the price is hard to beat. -- max everyone is entitled to his own opinion he is not entitled to his own facts. sen. daniel patrick moynihan of new york good day all i am looking for input on tires for my 01 ram 2500 quad cab truck with a cummins diesel. i am tired of all the tire web sitessalesmen etc and thought i would ask the group which tires you have had the best luck with. most of my driving is highwayrainsnow sometimes deepsome driving through nevada in the summeretc and pull a car trailer a lot.i hated the oem michelins they were crap in the rain and not much better in the snow. i appreciate all the help i have had on previous issues and thought i would try this one..thanks in advance.... .
