Ram 1500 Rad hoses

Q: i put ceramic brake pads on my 02 dakota quad cab. the brake dust is only about a 1/3 of what it use to be. -- thanks & have a nice day ! ed & sherri ive noticed an increasing problem with brake dust on my 2001 dak. even after having new front rotors fitted the dust still builds up fast on the front wheels. seems to be happening on the back tires too - had the truck in for a slight feel problem when braking they said the back brakes were dirty cleaned them out the slight shudder vanished - and came back after a couple of months. truck still has the original brake pads but i didnt notice this problem until about a year ago. seems to be getting worse tho that could just be my perception. is this something i should look into or do i just need to make sure i keep lots of wheel cleaner on hand jmc jodi the brake dust is probably normal. it accumulates pretty fast. the semi-metallic brake pads give off a black brake dust while the old asbestos pads gave off a white dust which wasnt as noticeable. a good coat of wax on the wheels makes em easier to rinse off. most of the wheel cleaners are pretty harsh so i would just use your normal car wash water and elbow grease. mike .

if you can find a cummins mechanic that has his/her own shop they will have the computer codes that will increase your hp..... nope - no computer on a 97... the engine is completely mechanical. the only things electrical are the starter and the fuel cutoff solenoid. .

just saving time asshole the explanation involves percentages lol pretty good at dishing it out but completely incapable of taking it lol. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving piss off alright genius how is that going to make any difference. at best the voltage between the battery positive and the engine ground will be higher than at both terminals of the battery while the alternator is working. do you need a lesson on the current path during charging too -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving are you measuring the running-charging-voltage at both battery terminals or between positive and engine ground ok you guys seem to know it all thats not intended as a slight 91 plymouth laser i know dodge truck ng but it is a chrysler product and i do own a dodge truck and well you guys know it all. constant clear liquid around the battery especially around the top vents very corrosive. no the battery does not have a leak battery was three years old exchanged with another three year old battery same thing clear liquid around battery. constantly adding water to the battery. removed regulator from the car set it up on the test bench regulator turns on alternator at 13.8 volts and turns off the alternator field winding at 14.2 volts at about 70 degrees f. battery voltage measured at the alternator/regulator is the same as the voltage measured at the battery. this vehicle uses a separate wire to measure the battery voltage for the regulator tests ok same voltage at either end of the wire. with the car running the measured output voltage of the alternator is 14.2 volts. manual says voltage should be between 13.9 and 14.9 volts question is why am i boiling the batteries. car runs fine starts ok no other problems. .

just traded my 02 4.7l 4x4 dakota in on a 05 ram qc 4x4 hemi with 20 wheels. love the go power and the big beast will stop on a dime and give you back a nickel. gas mileage so far is 11.8 with 800 miles on the clock and no interstate just two lane highway and city. be ready to fight on the trade in price for your truck. it took me two days of fighting just to get kelly blue book trade in out of the dealer. gas thinking of trading in my 99 dakota sport v6 for a new 05 ram 1500 quad cab 4x2 hemi sport appearance group/look. saw some last night at the dealer and with the employee discount and other discounts the hole in the pocket would be about $22k. any pitfalls or drawbacks on the new rams - especially the hemi engine thanks in advance for your advice. ray austin tx ======= .

a note on replacing your upper radiator hose bypass hose and thermostat because you must remove the alternator/air-conditioning bracket system to access the three forementioned items you definitely want to do this at a time and place convenient to you not 11 pm in the wal-mart parking lot. in other words these are items to replace early before they fail at a really bad time. and do check the thermostat in boiling water because if it doesnt open then its two hours work to replace it again. after recently doing all this on a 96 3500-series van i looked under the hood of my 03 ram pickup and was relieved that i could actually see the thermostat housing. i dont understand why it took dodge 10 years to fix that mistake or why anyone would hide these common maintenance items in the first place. martin tom lawrence wrote have been worring somewhat about the age of my hoses. should i replace some or all which hoses commonly fail all of them... seriously - theyre all made of the same material all subject to pretty much the same heat and all carry the same fluid. replace the upper and lower radiator hoses the heater hoses and most importantly because its the hardest to get to and therefore the most likely to fail at the worst possible time the bypass hose that goes between the water pump and the intake manifold. get rid of the stock constant-tension clamps and replace with standard hose clamps that tighten with a screwdriver. over time and after repeated heat cycles the constant tension clamps will lose their tension and they dont hold as well. their advantage and why theyre used is that theyre quick to put on and cant be over or under-tightened. while youre changing hoses its a good time to also change out the thermostat the radiator cap and do a good flush/re-fill of the system which should really be done every 2-3 years. .

rq wrote i am thinking of buying a dakota but i hear that they are real gas hogs. is this consistant with the experience of the members of this groups thanks rq wow after reading the responses youve received to date i am surprised at how bad the dakota mileage really is. my full-size 2003 ram with v8 hemi is getting better mileage both in-town and highway than these dakotas. it doesnt make sense particularly on the highway where profile of the smaller truck should be a big advantage. martin .

ill describe this symptom as best i can when moving at 10 mph or less and turning to the left either slightly to the left or sharply to the left particularly when pulling away from a stop and turning to the left i get a shuddering vibration that can be felt through the steering column brake pedal and floor. the sound and vibration is also heard and felt by passengers. and its far more likely to start shuddering if i ride the brakes lightly while slowly turning left. im at a loss to describe the sound and frequency. its almost as if the front calipers arent releasing well sort of snagging and dragging. but i cant imagine why turning left would affect this. this occurs only when turning to the left. ive tried but cannot make it happen straight ahead or turning right. this truck is under warranty and i am already planning to take it in for another brake problem grabbing/shimmying when braking particularly from 45 mph or higher. question - is the low-speed-when-turning-left shudder a known problem that is related to the high-speed braking shimmy if so rather than confuse the service writer with multiple complaints i may just let them correct the shimmy i understand this is a tsb which involves turning rotors and replacing calipers and wait to see if the other problem goes away. thanks martin .
