Q: 97 ram 1500 cc is there a fairly easy way to change the wiring for the auxillary lighter socket so that it is switched by the accy/ign switch right now it along with the regular lighter socket is hot all the time. itd be helpful if one was switched. thanks.. .

ramman@dodgecity.cc writes 97 ram 1500 cc is there a fairly easy way to change the wiring for the auxillary lighter socket so that it is switched by the accy/ign switch right now it along with the regular lighter socket is hot all the time. itd be helpful if one was switched. since i got no replies i ventured forth on my own....again 1. disconnect -negative- battery post terminal 2. drop the lower dash panel under the steering wheel 3. open the inside fuse panel door 4. remove screws 2 holding fuse panel to dash frame 5. pull down fuse panel there is a little slack so -pull- 6. identify the load side small wire and supply side heavy wire to the radio and power socket fuse locations. radio is heavy black w/white stripe wirepower socket is the heavy solid red 7. cut the -heavy- red wire far enough back in the loom to give you 2-3 of working length. tape up the end that goes back into the loom this wire is normally hot +12v all the time this should leave you with a 3 pigtail of heavy red wire going to the fuse panel. 9. use a 12 ga. yellow crimp-lok connector to bridge the heavy red wire onto the heavy black w/white stripe wire. you are joining the unfused -supply- high side of the radio feed circuit to the unfused high side of the power socket fuse. in this way both fuses will still be in the load side of their respective circuits.. do not connect the load side small wires together.. we want to join only the supply side heavy wires. put it all back together. were finished. the aux power socket is now switched on/off with the accy/ign switch. -bubba -- support xm satellite radio! tell the fcc how you feel about the natl assn of broadcasters attempts to block local content! we need your help. http//www.xmradio.com/grassroots/index.jsp http//www.cato.org/tech/tk/040120-tk.html .
