Question concerning 318 to 360 upgrade
From : guy lee
Q: hello everyone im smack dab in the middle of switching out my 318 with a 360. i have a 1987 w100 with automatic transmission. ive installed a flexplate from b&m to hook to my a727. ive set the drivers side mount bracket back an inch or so. all looks well except for some brackets. the 318 i have had a 2bbl carb. the 360 is configured with an edelbrock performer manifold and a holley 4175 vaccuum secondaries. does anyone know the part numbers for the kickdown linkage and a bracket for the throttle cable connects to the intake and/or where i can get them if not a dealer any and all suggestions are helpful. sincerely guy lee .

pssstt red...they got smart a few years ago and quit weighting them now they take material off the other side to get the balance. he used the b&m weighted convertor flex plate. he doesnt need to change convertors ive installed a flexplate from b&m to hook to my a727. helpful. nope but did you change the torque converter too 318 is internally ballanced engine. 360 has balance weights in flywheel/converter. ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .

really and the balance weights on the convertor are there for what reason and when you have a manual transmission exactly how is the flywheel unweighted since you are so smart you must know that the magnum series is weighted different than the la series b&m were the first ones to use the unweighted flexplate then chrysler started unweighting the harmonic balancer but since you are so smart you already knew that. bottum line-the guy doesnt need a weighted convertor with the unweighted b&m flexplate pssstt red...they got smart a few years ago and quit weighting them now they take material off the other side to get the balance. ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .

all that over semantics weighted vs. offset balanced and yes i do know everything you posted. i dont however have your racing knowledge and i do enjoy reading your and dodgeboys exchanges over in the hi-po mopars group. chill i wasnt attacking you. i just didnt know how current you were on the b&m stuff i shouldve known better. really and the balance weights on the convertor are there for what reason and when you have a manual transmission exactly how is the flywheel unweighted since you are so smart you must know that the magnum series is weighted different than the la series b&m were the first ones to use the unweighted flexplate then chrysler started unweighting the harmonic balancer but since you are so smart you already knew that. bottum line-the guy doesnt need a weighted convertor with the unweighted b&m flexplate pssstt red...they got smart a few years ago and quit weighting them now they take material off the other side to get the balance. ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .

i tried to keep it simple you know the kiss principle then people start talking about moving the imbalance built in by not using weightor needing a weighted convertor i guess that would be unweighted as opposed to weighted or non weighted same deal with the 2 styles of harmonic balancers. the unweighted one is the one to have. not only from the appearance standpoint but it shows up in acceleration power since you are only moving the imbalance and not accelerating weight. steady state rpm makes no difference only the acceleration mode. doesnt sound like much but i have seen claims of 40 hp difference in a well built street 360 or 408 but again that is in acceleration dyno tests not steady state cruise the main problem is there more than one way to solve the issue but then somebody talks about what they experienced which is what somebody told them to do to solve the problem not knowing there are other solutions. just trying to keep the original poster on the right path. he may be absolutely certain hes got the problem solved but if he is following someone elses advice then somebody tells him he needs a weighted convertor when he already has a unweighted flexplate well things can get a bit confused. all that over semantics weighted vs. offset balanced and yes i do know everything you posted. ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .
