youre lean. check for an air leak. could be the manifold gasket. you may hear a rattle. pull the plugs and look for an oily one lifter valley vapor. steve i have a 1996 ram 1500with a 318 auto with 250k miles on it. it recently started to back fire when i accelerate other than that it runs fine. i rebuilt the top end at 240k and one of the o2 senors is bad. anyone have any thoughts on what it might be the only error code i get is for the o2 sensor. thanks david .

so says you. according to your logic a 4-cylinder perkins could pull a class 8 truck over the rockies so thats the way to go. watch this then http//www.becontrols.com/renault5.wmv that is funny. .

keep us informed on your results. ive been kicking around getting the same for my truck same as yours. --mike i got my new superchips tuner/programmer last friday. i installed the canned performance program for my 5.7 hemi magnum in my 2003 2500hd ram with automatic 5 speed transmission and .373 rear end. i filled her up with 34 gallons of premium unleaded and headed 250 miles away to my deer lease. the truck ran great and the new shift points and the improved rev limits were a welcome change from the weird shifting pattern this truck has with the stock program. i actually had to push down on the accelerator some to get the thing to kick into passing gear instead of just barely touching the pedal before i made the change. i was impressed. i drove about 800 miles since then and have averaged 13.2 mpg where i was getting 14.5 normally and 8.5 towing. tonight i reprogrammed the truck for the improved performance for 87 octane changed the speed limit to 140 mph and increased the rpm limit to 500 over the custom settings. ill fill up in the morning with cheaper gas and see what happens. even if i dont get any improvement in the gas mileage i will be happy if the transmission shift pattern stays similar to what it was with the performance program. ill try the tow program thanksgiving week when i go on another hunting vacation. fyi.... -- moparman---remove clothes to reply! --scud coordinates 32.61204 north 96.92993 west-- .

montanajeeper wrote i wouldnt worry about the gear ratio nate... there ate so many ram/cummins out there pulling 5th wheels and most seem to be the 3.55 gears... id say the truck was built to tow and it does it for years and years as set up.. i was hoping somebody would say that. anybody else agree also ive heard from someone running a 1500 but not a 2500/3500. is anybody running 285/75r16 on stock wheels on a 2500 on 3.54 gears thanks my 99 2500 4x4 qc shortbed cummins/auto/3.54 has 265/75r-16s on stock wheels. your 285s are about 1-1/4 taller and 3/4 wider than mine. the diesel should have no problem at all towing with that tire size even with the 3.54 gears and automatic transmission. watch out for the load range when tire shopping. you we should be using load range e tires. the stock size 245s are the only 16 tires i could find in load range e. .
