Oil pan difference,,, 318 to 360

From : earl groce

Q: i have a 92 318 4x4 auto dakota. im putting in a 95 360 from a 1500 4x4 auto. about my oil pan...... the 360 pan is fairly damaged... its a rear sump pan. the old 318 pan is full of piston debris and antifreeze but its fine. its also a rear sump. the rear sump on the 360 looks bigger. will they interswap if i interswap the oil pick up if necessary for the depth. ie what is the real difference between the two oil pans that makes everyone say they will not swap. i have found out that the pan gaskets have different parts numbers at autozone... the rear seal area on the 360 is a much larger diameter. you must have a 360 pan and probably one specifically for a dakota. thanks to steve for first hand experience with the swap. .

suddenly without warning azwiley1 exclaimed 23-oct-06 1236 pm when i was stationed in the uk the rear red sometimes amber was a rear marker light that was used when driving in dense fog. they dont stop much may slow down some so you were required by law to have that else you get run over. the white one i am not sure about were shipping a ram srt-10 back to england after an engine rebuild and i noticed two lamps under the rear bumper. one white and the other red. whats the significance of these thanks ralph id guess the white one was a backup light. on my dakota they rewired the backup lights to be turn signals since it is apparently required that the turn signals be white. however backup lights are not required. i really missed mine imagine the ram owner added it so he could avoid knocking down buildings in the dark and yes the red one is a fog lamp. jmc thanks guys. i appreciate you clearing that up for me. now i can sleep soundly again. r .

the leaver moves fine and the light goes off however it is still in 4wd. the first time it happened i moved the leaver into 4 and out of 4 about 15 times before it disengaged light stayed on a few times. the next time i put it in 4 i tried around 4-5 times to move the leaver in and out before i tried backing up. as soon as i backed up it came out of 4. thanks are you trying this on dry pavement 4wd will be difficult to disengage unless you are on a loose somewhat slippery surface. also are your tires of roughly equal diameter unequal tires can cause this also. mike a tom lawrence wrote i have an 01 manual quad cab ram and have noticed the last couple of times that i have put it in 4wd it has had a tough time disengaging. if the lever tough to move or does the lever move fine but the 4x4 light just stays on meaning the front axle is still locked .
