justaskme@hotmail.com says... that makes sense. i thought it may have been a fire hazard or something. i dont think the heating element carries enough current to be a fire hazard but i dont know that for sure. but ive had a cloth covered recliner in my house with a heater in it for years. and its frame is made out of wood! good luck with your project. those heated seats are sure nice on the old hind end during the cold spells. .

xclimation wrote not to get too deep into this but the cost of drilling for oil and producing gas has gotten way cheaper than the 70s. there are more factors than i care to post but you do the research. sorry but its considerably more expensive now. the actual drilling itself isnt where the money goes. infrastructure costs of drilling have never been a big expense. do some research. .

if its a matter of basic economics why dont you have time to respond if it helps you to explain the economics to me know that we produce oil and natural gas. we dont own any refineries or gas stations. some 60% of our oil is eventually turned into fuel products the remainder becomes asphalt and other non-fuel products plastics petro-chemicals etc.. after processing mostly removing poisonous and corrosive substances our natural gas goes to the local utility for sale to power plants and homes. we dont have any control over the price of our product we only have control over our costs. it costs a tremendous amount to build maintain and operate our producing and processing facilities. as shown in an earlier post of mine in this thread big oil made a 7-11% net profit margin for 2005 which i dont think is excessive and we had a negative net profit margin. i really dont have time to respond to this but i am amazed that you work in the industry; and naive to a lot of things. namely basic economics. oh come on. this isnt nearly as much fun as i thought it would be. i expected at least a few more responses. especially since i admitted i work for an independent oil company. as for the facts...the price of oil adjusted to inflation by comparing it to the consumer price index cpi shows that the price of oil peeked in 1979 followed by a decline until 1999 after which it closely follows the cpi and is actually less expensive than in 1974 as shown at this link http//inflationdata.com/inflation/inflationrate/historicaloilpriceschart.asp i admit that gasoline heating oil diesel etc are part of the cpi so its kind of like comparing the price of apples to the price of apples plumes apricots lemons and oranges. . the price of gasoline for the last 12 months follows the price of oil as shown by this link http//www.oilnergy.com/1combo.htm repeat of an earlier post of mine. if you want to know who the members of opec are you can find them at http//www.opec.org/aboutus i dont know who ws buddys are but ill bet venezuela isnt one of them. .

roy wrote two subjects!! curious after reading the gun control thread. how many of you are legally licensed to carry a concealed hand gun not to transport but to carry concealed it anywhere the law allows. i think a ma pistol permit is equivalent to a license to carry concealed or not but im not certain. they have a couple of them with different restrictions. i had a pistol permit for many years but it has since expired. here in ma you need a pistol permit or firearm id card to even buy pepper spray!. you should have kept it current. now i think you have to do a class and course to get it. ill find out for certain soon. gonna try and get one again. after going through the local state and fbi background checks to get the permit i have become very unsympathetic towards those claiming the patriot act is robbing them of their rights. i have a hard time compareing a background check to the rights we all lost under the guise of the pa im still trying to figure out what rights i lost under the pa. i hear everyone im in the very liberal northampton-amherst area of the very liberal state of ma; as you know complaining of their lost rights though. interesting that some years ago when the justice department or homeland security was touring around the country explaining the pa that virtually no one showed up at the meetings. i read similar outcomes occurred in ca. dont know about other places. guess people were to frightened about speaking their minds at the meetings with all those lost rights the pa threw out that they didnt bother to attend. fingerprinted for local state and fbi followed by an interview at the local police station was required along with $100 for the application fee and some more money for fingerprinting costs. had to go through this entire process *again* 5 years later to renew! i guess it is different city to city in ma. i filled out the renewal form dropped it off at the pd. they called me a few weeks later to issue the new permit. was $100.00 but thats less than $25.00 a year. my atv registration cost about the same. would think there would be state wide consistency. i think they did away with the two types of permit. one was for sport purposes and the other was for personal protection. always heard the protection reason was a rougher process. i always put down sporting/plinking purposes and they didnt seem to regard me as a threat with a gun! mine use to be protection of life and property now it is any lawfull purpose. those come as a a and b the a is for large capacity mags. that is the one id think you want no limitations with it. you have any snow yet flurries but no ground coverage. none on the horizon either. yup i sold the truck just in time. roy smh .

strange whistling noise from under the hood when temperature is around zero degrees and colder celsius appears only when vehicle is under load if you let off on gas noise goes away also when you put your foot into it.strange thing is when cruise control is activated no sound and cruise works better nice smooth acceleration under load and it doesnt constantly hammer down to a lower gear to maintain the set speed like it used to.as i said it accelerates smoothly. so what is it a throttle problem transmission or valve or vacum leak of some sort.... help and thanks. .

ive noticed a trend in government to increase gun registration and gun laws. a trend it has been a movement for years. while there are some reducing of laws its few compared to the increase. so the political wind i am sensing is that the various levels of government are trying to take privately held guns away from the civillians i mean citizens. i still dont see the big deal about talking about those who legally ccw and a trend to regulate ownership. go to any gun forum. personally i dont have a problem with person with a violent felony or domestic abuse conviction being denied the right to own a firearm of any kind. .

oh come on. this isnt nearly as much fun as i thought it would be. i expected at least a few more responses. especially since i admitted i work for an independent oil company. as for the facts...the price of oil adjusted to inflation by comparing it to the consumer price index cpi shows that the price of oil peeked in 1979 followed by a decline until 1999 after which it closely follows the cpi and is actually less expensive than in 1974 as shown at this link http//inflationdata.com/inflation/inflationrate/historicaloilpriceschart.asp i admit that gasoline heating oil diesel etc are part of the cpi so its kind of like comparing the price of apples to the price of apples plumes apricots lemons and oranges. . the price of gasoline for the last 12 months follows the price of oil as shown by this link http//www.oilnergy.com/1combo.htm repeat of an earlier post of mine. if you want to know who the members of opec are you can find them at http//www.opec.org/aboutus i dont know who ws buddys are but ill bet venezuela isnt one of them. .

tom lawrence wrote 30120 miles on it and i have no problems noted. i had my 30000 miles or 30 months major maintenance done last month at 28645. is this light scheduled to come on at a certain mileage 30000 or may i be looking at some type of problem its not scheduled - it means the computer detected a problem somewhere. cycle the ignition key on-off-on-off-on and the odometer will display one or more diagnostic codes in the form of pxxxx xxxx being a 4-digit number. write them down and post them back here. well i went out this morning before work and tried to retrieve a code. nothing showed up. i attempted again after work same thing nothing. now comes the good part but first just a little more background that i left out yesterday didnt think it had to do with anything. yesterday was a real shitty day weather wise up here in wisconsin and i had the day off so i took the dogs out and went bunny hunting. going down the slushy back roads i was using the wipers constantly as well as the bug juice. well it ran low and the washer low light came on. this was about 15min after the mil light came on. i did not connect the two. after work i stopped by the store and got some washer fluid. i put it in while i was in the parking lot. jumped in the truck and started it and to my surprise not one but both lights went out! whats up with that! here i thought i was having some type of major malfunction! .

ed h. wrote below is a chart i found of net profit margins for the some companies for the quarter ending dec. 2005 as reported by bloomberg the last quarter i could find information for. sorry if the columns dont line up. when one looks at fuel prices they are actually much lower than other items that have appreciated over similar times simply through cost of living rises. they are actually lower than they should be if inflation rates and comparative costs are examined. as the table shows profit margins for oil companies are not all that extreme compared to other sectors of the economy. the oil companies have made their record profits via *volume* not high profit margin. *everyone* buys gasoline *regularly*. thats not true with many other items people in the us purchase. theres a tremendous amount of risk in developing a new oil field. lots of money spent on exploration and oil field development that ends up a bust. it should be no surprise that the profits arent as high as a percentage as other economic sectors. some will say they have to pay the price at the pump and they are mostly correct. however when gas hit $2.50-3.00/gal consumption dropped and so did the price of gas. we showed how much we were willing to pay. more complete crap. it had nothing to do with what people were willing to pay and just about everything to do with what they could afford to pay. you differentiate between the two yet the market does not! fuel is not a luxury item for most people and they have to pay it to get to work get food and basically to live. the price dropped because they could not justify keeping that high and for no other reason than that. why not what were the companies going to be threatened with were price controls from congress looming if price controls came about what happens to new technologies that cant compete with the cost of producing oil based fuel do we have to wait until the oil physically runs out before switching energy sources nothing short of that would be required if price controls are in effect. when gasoline hit $3.00/gal. around here there were reports everyday that said people were either getting more fuel efficient vehicles or cutting out unnecessary driving. although that is anecdotal evidence and i have not seen a large survey i think that its probably true for enough of the population that we reduced consumption and suddenly the oil companies had a larger than expect supply and the price dropped. same effects here. i bike commute most every day even through winter. i love my v-8 4x4 gas guzzler but i like to bike too and its a great way to combine physical workout with commuting time. i noted *lots* more people on bikes during the $3/gal period. local paper picked up on it as well and nationally bicycle sales spiked. so $3/gal prices did have some effect in reducing demand. and yet we hear of people demanding government subsidy or regulation or whatever to keep the price low. so much for reasons to seek alternative energies or ways to get to work! shees the president no more controls the weather than he controls the price of oil. not true it is his energy policy that has alot to do with the price of oil. so far his energy policy in which he consulted with the major oil companies have done nothing but encouraged us to consume more. and yet youre advocating price control or regulation to keep the price low. how better to encourage someone to conserve than having a high price on the item to be conserved did you know that ws buddies are opec members if opec is engaging in illegal collusion and price fixing then why doesnt w kick thier tails for it no i didnt. who are they indeed! who are these buddies wouldnt a true buddy be more inclined to help you out by keeping oil prices low not very good buddies if theyre helping open their compadre to domestic political attack. you are kind of wrong here. refineries have been modified to where they can refine much more efficient than 30 years ago. i am talking exponentially more efficient. also w relaxed enviromental controls on the refineries making even more efficient but more enviromentally dangerous. if it were profitable trust me the oil companies would have a refinery next to every starbucks. not where i live in california. no proposal for a refinery processing plant or power plant has been approaved by the politicians or public. there is such a strong public outcry against such facilities that i sometimes wonder why they are even proposed. nor new power plants in ca or much of the country. ca prefers others meet *their* increasing power demands. the nimby syndrome is well known and quite understandable. i would not want an oil refinery power plant wind farm or solar farm near me either. nonetheless *someone* has to suffer from such a neighbor or well be back to living in caves

my first silver star burnout came after just one year and i hardly used them. there used to be a chart somewhere i think on sylvanias own site that listed life expectancy of their various bulbs. the silver stars hours were much less than xtravision or any of the other bulbs.i believe you are correct.... it seems i also saw somewhere that sylvania warns you that the silverstars arent as long lived as their other bulbs but four years aint bad for the extra light output. four years for lights that were almost always on is something that i would not complain about. i hated that damn auto daytime running light set up on the silvy but at least on mine when you disable it by removing the bulb it turns your heads on all the time. they have been great for me love the fact that i can see very well at night in the desert so i wont change. .
