Q: i dont think your problem is vacuum. when under heavy throttle manifold vacuum is at its lowest. i believe you have a coolant level problem. do not check the overflow bottle you must check the radiator level. this can only be done cold. when you find the radiator low and the overflow bottle full you will also have a water leak somewhere in the system. this leak could be very small. when the cooling water cools it will contract in volume creating a vacuum in the cooling system. this should draw the coolant in to the radiator from the overflow bottle. if there is a leak the vacuum will be satisfied by ambient air as this is the path of least resistance. steve i have a 99 dakota v8 5.2l auto trans air cond club cab. i thought i noticed this late into last winter and im certain i can detect it now the mornings just recently turned are cold where i live. the heat output used to be excellent usually the heater put out so much heat that id have to turn it down after a driving for 10 to 15 minutes but now i detect that the heat is somewhat marginal i.e. not what it used to be. i also notice that the amount of heat noticeably increases with engine vacuum such as when i heavily accelerate going up a hill i get lots of heat and when the hill stops or i take my foot off the gas the heat output lessens. when im driving on a level road such as an interstate highway at 65 mph there is just adequate heat but not anywhere as much as there used to be. note that im not referring to the volume of air the fan pushes out the volume does not vary im referring to how hot the air is that the fan pushes out. i suspect theres a leak in a vacuum line that controls the hot-air/outside-air mixture. but im lost as to where to look ... i donut see any of the black rubber vacuum hoses 1/8 going from the engine/manifold into the cab. nor do i know where to look under the dashboard assembly. any help pointing me in the right direction will be appreciated such as where might i find drawings of how to access the heater/blower assembly the air mix door etc. .

mileage = 101k just rolled over a few weeks ago. no lack of maintenance over the years have had 30k 60k 90k services done at dealer expensive! and oil changes usually 3 to 4k miles. thanks for the replies will look at coolant level this morning and report back if that is not it. .
