Q: ive been having adventures in starting with this truck and i was wondering if any fault code data is retrievable that would help in diagnostics. i dont want to take it to a shop just for them to be changing parts to find out whats wrong. batteries are new. i thought maybe it was the ignition switch but now im not too sure. sometimes in starting i just hear clicks a few times and then it starts. many variations but very sporadic. may not do it for a week or so. a couple times i think its towtruck time ten minutes later it starts totally normal wtf. take the cable off at the starter. the boot has a hole to let water run out. it gets plugged with crap and the water and salt start to eat its way up the cable under the insulation. take a good look. dont ask how i know. roy thanks bill .

i read the faqs on larrybs site and it sounds right on the mark so i ordered the contact kit. last week i adjusted the 47e bands and changed the filter and fluid and it went very well. i havent worked on vehicles for many years but im still pretty good on the tool inventory and with some good info its kind of fun. you guys know your stuff. thanks bill ive been having adventures in starting with this truck and i was wondering if any fault code data is retrievable that would help in diagnostics. i dont want to take it to a shop just for them to be changing parts to find out whats wrong. batteries are new. i thought maybe it was the ignition switch but now im not too sure. sometimes in starting i just hear clicks a few times and then it starts. many variations but very sporadic. may not do it for a week or so. a couple times i think its towtruck time ten minutes later it starts totally normal wtf. thanks bill this ones easy you need some new starter contacts. many on the tdr swear by these http//www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm .

grrr... recently the hubby backed my truck up into a landcruiser taking out the tailight and leaving a nice big dent back there. thursday i picked up the truck from the body shop all fixed. today saturday were trying to get out of a parking spot downtown noticed a running fight between aboriginals. a fairly heavyset woman is screaming and threatening a one-legged man on crutches who is trying to run away. another man probably her so is trying to stop her. the woman and her so look to be indigenous i havent room here to go into the social problems of the australian aboriginals but the guy on crutches looks to be a working citizen. hardly a fair fight the guy on crutches was trying to run away. at one point he looks at us and makes the universal phone sign but i dont know the number to call the cops i only know the emergency # she hadnt actually touched him yet and shrug - but note to myself the police station is just around the corner. well before we can get out of the spot the fight reaches the truck and in an attempt to get the woman away from the guy in crutches he throws her up against my truck. after a minute or two the fight moves far enough away for us to make our escape. we stop at the police station and i go in to report the problem - they knew this particular one-legged guy actually theres a lot of one-legged aboriginals in town i have no idea why. hubby comes running in to tell me they dented my truck. argh! long dent nearly two feet long in the club cab panel. cop tells me theres nothing to be done - since they werent specifically targeting my vehicle its not a criminal matter its an accident. phooey. for a few moments all i wanted to do was go back with a baseball bat and give that fat woman who was causing the whole problem what for and giving her so a whack for throwing her against my truck. i didnt of course! we just drove home. anyway the story has sort of a happy ending. we get the truck home and popped the dent mostly out by using a couple of suction cups. now its more just a little blivet. btw hubby was in the drivers seat again. poor guy hes been having really bad karma where my trucks concerned and no im not blaming him for this!. ok. i just needed to vent. maybe i should just cover the truck with bubble wrap and ride the bicycle instead... jmc .

where are you guys getting this failure rate at 100000 the friggin things were dropping like flies between 12000-20000 miles before dc changed them. the failure rate quoted by the cummins article claimed a 17% failure rate within the warranty period. the warranty period is 100000 miles. thus the failure rate included lps that would have failed for reasons other than the vibration problem that caused the early failures. -- max join www.devilbrad.com and find out what free exchange of info is all about. there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author on thu 19 oct 2006 210536 -0600 nathan in montana im@home.noway wrote this would be working under the assumption that most of them failed closer to the 100000 mark like mine did. according to roy the average was around 12000 miles i think. lets say of the 1 in 5.88 failures that 80% of them were under 50000 miles. would it still be acceptable nate im not saying it is acceptable i just think that max has a good point. i understand exactly what you mean and im not criticizing you for it. maxs assumption is that failure is acceptable since they are going to the 100000 mile mark. my point is how acceptable or normal is it if the majority of the failures happen below 50000 miles which im betting is the generous norm based on what ive read from several sources. i understand. the problem for me is what is a normal failure rate it seems that even if you stretch the mileage out to 100000 one in 5 seems high but i have no friggin clue as to what a normal failure rate would be. i sure hope it is less than 1 in 5 but i dont know. i mean i hope that engineers can design a lp that would last over 100000 miles. if they told you when you bought your diesel that you had a 20% chance of getting stuck alongside the road at some point by the 100000 mile mark would you buy it im not sure i would. i plan to put well over a 100000 miles on my diesel but i didnt plan on rolling the dice with 20% odds against me that i would get stuck somewhere with an engine shutdown. i bet the 03 and above failure rate is way under that. and even at 100000 miles is 20% failure something that dc should have blown off if so they stand to lose a lot of customers. where are you guys getting this failure rate at 100000 the friggin things were dropping like flies between 12000-20000 miles before dc changed them. that is why a fuel pressure gauge was so damn important so you could catch it before ya lost the i pump. in 100000 miles you could go through a few of them. when i sold my 2k two had been changed out. the third was a new # and if i remember the truck had about 65 maybe 70k when i sold it.on it. oh there was one behind the seat as well. you guys can call it rampant wide spread or apple pie. it sucked and dc sucks for letting it continue for so long. but it is moot now. roy roy .

so well said. i agree with you and said without malice just speaking the plain old truth................... bs section if it werent for ot then youd see a.a.d.t. low activity response no and ill try to boil it down to 3 points. 1. of course we have the luxury of hindsight but i dont believe in pissing off the world in spreading your political philosophy and i dont think the goals we set out with 5 years ago threat related were ever met in the least. 2. im all for personal religious beliefs but i do not think he makes enough separation between its role in his personal life and the day-to-day business of this country. i almost wouldnt be surprised to see one of the rapture bumper stickers on the rudder of af1. 3. a canadian musical performer that tours in the us as well as canada pointed out last week that 5 or 6 years ago the american dollar was worth roughly $1.50....while today its going for about $1.15.....is that a sign of ever-increasing globalization in commodities hence a leveling of the playfield or have we missed something along the way.... jon roy wrote just for the hell of it and to learn about peoples mindset. do you think gb is doing a good job as president try to answer with out the usual bs. who am i kiddingg roy .

doesnt ford stand for fix or repair daily i unfortunately find myself in need or great want of a 3/4 ton diesel pu. after test driving i like the dodge first then the ford and a distant third is the gmc. scratch the gmc. ford is suspect because of the psd problems. cummins is my first choice but then im stuck with a dodge. i see many of you folks love your cummins but arent particularly thrilled with the dodge. what is it that makes you want a ford with a cummins in it i think the basic look of the dodge with the huge chrome grill is gaudy but i can get past looks for a dependable truck. does everything else on the dodge except the engine fall apart bb .
