nate glad you made it without major incident. as far as lds and such an interesting book came out after the slc bombings that killed several people. i think the name of the book was the salamander letter and i dont recall the author but he was an investigative reporter i think been awhile. he brings lots of enlightenment to the lds people the hierarchy the politics the history and of course the money. ive heard lds referred to as a cult. i dont know the official definition of cult vs. religion maybe someone here does. i have a neice who married into the church she is his first and only wife. i knew a few other members. like someone earlier said they have some good points as do other religions and some bad points as do other religions. they have to be different. if they werent different they would have the name of another religion. fmb only one b in fmb actually it is polygamy im having a little trouble of understanding the difference in polygamy and bigamy. the reformed lds church rlds still supports the belief. in all fairness though thats like trying to hold the catholics responsible for something the protestants do. they broke off from the mormon church and therefore their actions should not have any impact at all on the mormon church. they are an entirely different church. although it is not supported by the lds church thousands still practice it. thousands in the actual lds church or in the multiple churches that formed after breaking away from the mormon church it is a religion like any other religion agreed. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com .

what never ceases to amaze me is the lds claim of being the true church yet having been broken into over 150 splinter groups. if as accorded by their teachings they were the true church why after smiths death did it split couldnt their god hold them together budd eldon jons wrote nate wrote bigamy was not against the law at that point and when law was passed making it illegal they dropped the policy. frankly i dont see the problem there. i think its also fair to note that the reason they practiced bigamy to begin with was because so many of their men had been killed by other religious fanatics who hated them based upon nothing more than religious differences. actually it is polygamy in utah and the reformed lds church rlds still supports the belief. although it is not supported by the lds church thousands still practice it. since the sister wives arent recognized by the government as being married our tax dollars go to support many of them and their kids. you get 3-6 of these wives living in the same house and the benefits add up. no wonder the polygs as they are called can afford to drive brand new $40000 vehicles. the mormons didnt abandon the practice until it was realized that the us government wouldnt grant statehood to utah as long as they were breaking the law. suddenly brigham young was told by a message from god to abandon the practice....probably the same messenger that told joseph smith to take multiple wives when the religion was formed lol! it is a religion like any other religion....based on certain beliefs written and interpreted over the years. so long.... eldon ; http//community.webtv.net/ejutah/acpictures http//community.webtv.net/sodakid2/allallischalmers .

budd im not going to get in to a gospel flame war here. nobody wins. people end up getting pissed off at each other and ending friendships that way. ive been in and seen enough debates to know that anyone can bring up scriptures and history to disprove the others faith/beliefs but then the other comes back with more all in the name of love. lets just end this discussion by just giving each other a big hug and kiss over the internet i wont tell my wife if you dont tell yours. on fri 25 jul 2003 155616 gmt budd cochran mr-d150@citlink.net wrote roger c. covalt wrote bud and nate and everyone else first of all i knew there was one of regulars that had moved out to utah and i thought it was you bud but wasnt sure. yep. moved here because my father-in-laws health was failing and he needed more care. stuck here because my health has declined partially i believe due to the stresses of desert life. second of all let me give you my perspective of utah and btw i am lds convert too and i am a san diego native and still live in san diego county. let me ask you something roger. what are the three primary attributes of a true god yes the lds church has a lot of influence in the state. but you also have lots of freedom that you dont find elsewhere. more places to go off roading without the sierra club getting down your back as hard as in other states. i thought about going to byu once but decided against it because i like to hike and climb and explore on the weekends. also i dont mind taking a religious class when i want to and i have had great teachers in this aspect but not every quarter. not being an offroader or a hiker i dont really get to enjoy those freedoms so they arent important to me. a freedom ive lost here is the freedom to be not looked down on because i dont believe as they do. yes there are moral issues that the church takes a stance on and im glad that some religions have the balls to do that instead of just being 2 faced. ive always been taught and have tried to follow the principles taught by my parents-to stand up and be noticed on issues. im pretty vocal on my stance on most everything. yes if you want porn on tv you might not get in on cable but there is always disk network. the mormons have some fine teachings that are biblically supported. i follow them myself and have with my family. im non-denominational btw. southern utah is going to be more lds than the big cities in northern utah. but youre going to have more problems in those cities. salt lake city was recently announced as having less than 50% lds population. moab has less than 40%. the problem lies in that in places where no religious is needed the mormons pile it on almost to the point of being discriminatory. if youve ever read any of edward abbeys books youll get the strong impression he doesnt care for mormons. in fact in two of his books the monkey wrench gang and hayduke lives there is a character named bishop love that is a great farce on the lds church. as you probably are aware earth first! has their roots in the writings of abbey. ive known fellow environmentalists and i claim to be one too that have based their attitude of the lds church solely on the writings of abbey. sadly its their closed mindiness-willing to accept someone elses words on a belief without investigating it themselves of course they will never admit to being closed minded-its always there other side that is closed minded. they would find that there are lots of flaming liberals along with the standard picture image of the church of being right wing conservatives. ive studied the teachings five times. ive researched the lds faith online. it has some serious problems that are irreconcilable among which the failed prophecies of joseph smith are only the tip of the iceberg. send me a email and list them for you. the reason i want to move to southern utah is not because i am lds but because i cant stand what is happening in california and would prefer a area with more freedom. as a mormon once you hit the local registry rolls youll have no problems. but when a non mormon walks into a local establishment and as soon as your name is mentioned you see the friendliness leave and the only reason is that the business is lds connected what does that tell you oh theyll take the money but you wont be treated as friendly as a church member. i am a right wing conservative meaning i favor less taxes less government in our lives but also a flaming environmentalist how can the 2 of them together be possible got to be open minded im not a brow-beating conservative but i dont want the government taking over my responsibilities in life to my god myself my family and my country. personally i think the elected officials should work for minimum wage / 40 hrs / week and the government should get only 10% taxes . . god lives on it fine why cant the government

the question on the idle problem sounds like an idle air control valve. it may need cleaning with throttle injector cleaner spray. if that does not work maybe someone else may give advise on checking it out. your second question is yes the converter will start to break apart and clog the converter and or muffler. you will lose power when that happens. i have a 97 dakota that for 111k miles has run perfect best truck i have ever owned and ive owned a lots in 70 years. this morning when i turned the ignition switch it just clicked. the battery i told my self so i replaced the battery with a known good one. when i turned the ignition swith it started but will not idle you can keep it running by pushing on e gas and letting off as it reevs up but if you take your foot off the gas it dies. one problem i do have started about a month ago and i wonder if it could be the cause. i developed a rattle in the catalytic converter. i took it to the muffler shop and they wanted $180.00 to replace it. i told him i could put up with the rattle for that kind of money. he then said if you run it that way pieces of it will clogg up your muffler and burn a valve. i though he was just trying to sell me a converter was i wrong. was the battery just a coincidence. the new battery has been in the truck about 10 hours and it still starts the truck i think no short. any suggestions will be appreciated. have a nice day rogerx .

thanks... lots of good information again.. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving thanks tom... lot of helpful info here. question concerning the o2 sensors. after removing the o2 sensors will it effect the engine performance or computer in any way if so how do i handle that problem do you still intend to drive this on the street i would suggest that you purchase a set of headers that are emmissions legal and put the o2 sensors back in as well as the converters. the computer expects them and is tuned to operate with them in place. you could possibly remove the o2 sensors and replace them with resistors to fake out the computer but what would be the point. second question any links on where to buy a good set of headers ceramic coated maybe. how about stainless steel to help prevent rusting ceramic coated headers dont rust either if it is done correctly. just about any performance catalog will have either type as well as direct replacement types that will bolt up to the stock exaust configuration. what do you recommend for the remaing exhaust system i would like to keep the spare tire hanging. thanks ahead of time ron any pros or cons for installing headers nothing than the usual header cons - hotter underhood temps more susceptible to gasket leaks could rust out over time.. the power gains are decent however. i say go for it. if youre going to keep the truck for more than a few years id look into having them ceramic coated. either way get a starter heat shield. the drivers side header pipe will pass very close to the starter. stuck starter solenoids suck. youll also want to get different ignition wires - get ones designed for higher temps. the ones i have use heavy silicone boots with a reflective coating on them. havent burned one up yet. how about any sensors on the exhaust system how do i handle them and will it effect the engine unplug the electrical connector then remove the o2 sensors. either use an o2 socket or a box-end or flare-type wrench. what other problems will i run into typical exhaust system problems - rusted bolts clamps... have a good penetrating oil handy as well as several different cutting tools cut-off wheel reciprocating saw etc.. if youre discarding the old system theres no reason to be neat about it. cut what you cant easily unbolt. the stock hangers can sometimes be a bitch - the metal rods with the barb on the end that fit through the rubber isolators... cut the rod at the 90 bend and remove the cut piece with the barb from the other side. its a whole lot easier. when installing new just coat the barb with some grease. the hardest part by far will be installing the headers - not a lot of room to work with around the rear cylinders but its doable done it twice now .

its just a song. . . and an incorrect one. someone from mopar magazine put up a challenge for a restored stingray to go up against his factory origional super stock dodge. someone took him up and they ran 3 races and the ss dodge creamed it every time. its been done several times but the one you mention was the october 1990 issue of mopar action. the song alludes to the fact that the dodge had a 413 so the cars chosen for the showdown were a 62 dart with the 413 max wedge and a 63 stingray 327 fuelie. the dodge severely trounced the vette several times so yes the cars were mismatched but i guess the beach boys pandered to the surfer crowd which would have favored the vette. for anyone interested heres the lyrics of the song shutdown tach it up tach it up buddy gonna shut you down it happened on the strip where the road is wide two cool shorts standin side by side yeah my fuel injected stingray and a four-thirteen revvin up our engines and it sounds real mean tach it up tach it up tach it up buddy gonna shut you down declinin numbers at an even rate at the count of one we both accelerate my stingray is light the slicks are startin to spin but the four-thirteens really diggin in gotta be cool now power shift here we go superstock dodge is windin out in low but my fuel injected stingrays really startin to go to get the traction im ridin the clutch my pressure plates burnin that machines too much pedals to the floor hear the dual quads drink and now the four-thirteens lead is startin to shrink hes hot with ram induction but its understood i got a fuel injected engine sittin under my hood shut it off shut it off buddy now i shut you down shut it off shut it off buddy now i shut you down shut it off shut it off buddy now i shut you down shut it off shut it off buddy now i shut you down shut it off shut it off buddy now i shut you down .

that is the whole point. are you really this stupid. if the auto-manufacturers want to make huge luxury vehicles then they either need to figure out a way to make them conform to requirements or pay the gas guzzler tax instead of just slapping a suv sticker on them. and what do you think will happen when they change the standards for suv and pickups. we are not going to give up what we want. that is not the american way. the car companies will find away around it. i want to be able to fly. i also want a billion dollars. yet i cant fly and am not rich. just because you want something doesnt mean that you will or even should have it. if you have a problem with suvs then blame the government for regulations. they forced the car companies to build them because consumers wanted them. lol where are you getting this from. the government sets regulations to protect the society that it governs. while i dont always agree with them i understand where they are comming from. consumer want to feel safe in their vehicles. they want their family to be safe. and thinking that an suv will do that is a wifes tale. they are no safer than any other vehicle and in many cases been proven to be less safe. sure if you hit a neon with your escalade you will probably do fine but if the next one is against a navigator you will probably do far worse than a neon hitting a stratus. car companies need to make a profit. it is hard to make a profit if you sell something that the consumer does not want to buy so if you add the regulations you are just going to force people to buy bigger vehicles that dont have to meet the standards. nobody if forcing anyone to buy anything. people buy what slick marketing tells them to. if you are so concerned about the safety of your family why would you buy a vehicle that doesnt meet the safety standards of others. it sounds more like a status symbol to me. if i have to buy a damn dump truck too drive a big car then thats what i will do. then sir you are the problem. and their are many others like me. the sad thing is that you are probably correct. government controls do not work because people have a yearning for freedom. please do not confuse a yearning for freedom with the typical greed selfishness and hatred for authority found in many americans. the freedom to sell a product that the consumer wants. but that must be balanced against what is best for the society as a whole. a freedom to make a profit. as long as you dont fuck everyone else over doing it. a freedom to decide what kind of vehicle is best for you and your family. sure from what is available. hell a m1 abrams would be far safer than anything else out there. should we all be driving them and if we run out of oil tomorrow i can guarantee you that we will have vehicle that run off other forms of energy. oh really and how are you going to back up this guarantee. why will we have these vehicles because consumers will demand it. and companies will have to produce them so they can make a profit. i think that you are forgetting about 1 key issue the laws of nature. sometimes things just cant be done regardless of potential profit. if you want cars that get 80 mile to an ear of corn. then consumers need to demand it instead of have the government regulate it. but the consumers will not demand it because like you they have this silly pipe dream that oil will last forever and if not then a new energy source will magically appear so there is no need to worry about it. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

flashing is an immediate sign to some bad trouble. if you need immediate help do this. go to your truck and rotate the key between the position where you console lights up but not starting the truck and the one right before it. go back and forth about 5 times and stop on the position with the console lighted up. your check engine will begin to flash codes... itll flash the first number then second number then pause then another code. 55 is the code to signify its complete. if you can get me the code i can tell you the problem that it is registering. also go to a local autozone or other parts store pretty quickly as they can check it for free. hi i have a 1997 ram sport 1500 pickup 104k miles on it v8 5 litre 2wd i dont know what i was thinking. whenever i drive between 45-60mph with the overdrive on its on automatically the entire truck shakes terribly but when i turn it off it drives fine. i never knew a lot about automobiles so my only option was to turn to friends that knew how to work on them and theyre stumped as well. i was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what the problem may be. also the check engine light is on im assuming that its something to do with the od but not certain as it hasnt been hooked up to a computer yet. the check engine light flashes however which i cant imagine is a postive thing. it only flashes though if i first hit 70 or gun it for whatever reason. any insight on this matter will be of tremendous help. thanks. tom .

maybe nonapplicable to you but i can ride with another driver and tell if they get good mileage or not. all you have to do is watch their right foot. my son gets bad mileage with anything he drives because his foot is always moving up and down. not a lot but just a little. in ye ole days the carburetor throttle pump squirted a stream everytime your foot went down. i assume theres a comparable action with fuel injection systems but i know squat about them.... this may be comparing apples to oranges but i have never gotten good gas mileage out of a pickup. all mine were older 34 ton models and it didnt seem to make any difference loaded or unloaded uphill or downhill forewards or backwards coasting or engine off they all got about the same mileage. had everything from a slant 6 to a 400 v8 and inbetween too. i prefered the big blocks because if i was going to get lousy gas mileage i might as well have the power. i had a 67 that i replaced the 318 with a 383 and got better mileage with the 383 than the 318. its a pickup not an economy car phxbrd wrote how does the dealer explain the 11.1 mpg new engine tightness shouldnt matter that much should it i dont like the sound of that... my 2001 5.9l increased about 5mpg from new till about 15k. thats a totally new one for me. ive never heard that and ive always gotten almost exactly what the sticker claimed right from the beginning. am i the only one .

well budd i thought that we were past this crap but i guess that i was wrong. in what way am i either correcting you or attacking you from what i can see you did post this on a public forum and iirc i am allowed to comment on things posted on such a forum if i want to. when you post like this you need to expect that people may comment on it. if you dont want that then you really need to keep it out of here. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving geeze tom. just had to correct me didnt you or am i like you and he allowed to express myself for once it read at first like a reply in the conversation wed been having then the comment about someone to me since i first saw it in email it seemed he implied me directly thinking dc was god. i reminded him that many of the things he considers to be standard equipment on all vehicles seat belts a/c etc. were first developed by chrysler engineers. yes to me it was an attack and i felt that my efforts did not justify such treatment. and i dont believe what i posted here based upon that email from him justifies such treatment as you have given me either. tbone wrote gees budd you take things far to personally in here. perhaps he accidentally hit the reply button instead of the reply group button since the exact thing was also posted to the ng. it is easy to do with lookout express. but even if he did send it to you directly big deal. he didnt attack you or even say that you were wrong he simply voiced his opinions on the situation. i completely agree with him on two of his issues. 9 brakes are too small to be used on a pu and serviceability has become a distant thought in the building of many new vehicles. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving this clown sent this post to me direct because i guess i had been trying to help him. i dont consider his action appropriate in light of my effort to help him. i dont know what i did to warrant receiving this tirade other than trying to be helpful. he is now on my blocked email list. budd dick wrote i used the booster & mc off the same vehicle a 2000 durango. didnt think i could go wrong with that combo. i assumed with so many people complaning about high pedal preasure that chrysler engineers had screwed up on the 97-98. they changed the design in 99 to something that works good. they could have kept the bolt pattern the same on the booster so that the newer model would easily interchange. rear brake drums of 9 dia is a design flaw on a pickup 10 was optional then 11 in 2000 & now rear disc. cant blame dc for the 97 it was chrysler then. my 88 dakota had 9 also changed the axle on that when it failed to a 10 posi setup with heavyer springs off doner truck wish i had it back. chrysler removed the front axle disconnect on new series so now the front end parts wear out. my front c/v are worn out too as a result. ball joints on old 88 had 150k on them & were still tight. this 97 is ready for its 3rd. set no grease fittings on orginal equip i bought moog with grease fittings & lifetime warrany this time. i had complete pedal travel to the floor when bleeding so travel is not an issue. damiler chrysler is not god they screw up more than most auto manufactures. there designs do not take into account that these vehicles will have to be serviced economicaly. having to remove the fender liner to remove the mastercylinder is not resonable nor is removing the dashboard to replace the heater or ac componets. i have read reports of owerers of 2001 durango having to replace the heater core 3-5 times allready at $800 a pop. probably not a future dc customer! and i am a former employee of chrysler. dick you went with a smaller size master cylinder iirc which give you a mechanical advantage which lowers pedal pressure but requires more pedal travel to do the job. you may have reduced your reserve pedal to a less than safe amount by doing so. remember i did not recommend a smaller cylinder.. .

i read a number of questions regarding a/c squeal or loud screeching sounds coming from the 3.0l dodge caravan when a/c is turned on. this is fairly common with the dodge caravan and is generally caused by noisy pulley bearings. note; the reason the screech may not happen all the time is that when you select a/c you are adding an additional load to the belt which it otherwise does not have to support. its when you add that load the pulley bearing is put under increased stress. the following may help some situations. when you look under the hood you will see two belts. the longer belt called the serpentine belt that connects alternator power steering etc and the smaller a/c belt that drives the a/c compressor unit. the a/c belt is tightened with a tensioner pulley which you will see as the uppermost pulley wheel to the right of the platic water/coolant resevoir. if you hear squeal or screeching try the following; 1. replace the a/c belt and grease or replace the a/c belt tensioner pulley wheel to remove the belt and tensioner pulley; ======================================== to do that you need to undo the belt tensioner pulley bolt with a 15mm socket or wrench and then lower the tensioner pulley by turning the adjusting nut on the right of the tensioner pulley anti-clockwise until the tensioner pulley lowers enough to remove the belt. you can remove the entire pulley wheel at this time. to replace the belt and wheel ============================= to replace with a new belt and tensioner pulley is the reverse of the above make sure you adjust the a/c belt tension to the correct taughtness before tightening the 15mm pulley bolt. correct tightness means it should be very taught and have little vertical movement. you will want to run the engine to see that the belt is seated properly. alternative to replacing the tensioner pulley ============================================= an alternative to the expense of replacing the tensioner pulley is to grease the existing one. i personally recommend you do this first befor ebuying a replacement. to do that take apart the a/c tensioner pulley by gently removing the two black circular ball bearing covers on the pulley wheel you will see one on each side of the pulley . you can remove them by gently inserting a flat bladed screwdriver down the side and they will pop off quite easily. you will now see the actual ball bearing races themselves. clean these out you can use a commercial cleaner but gasoline works just as good and repack the ball bearings with a good amount of bearing grease ie heavy duty grease. do not use a lubricant spray. replace the 2 black circular ball bearing covers and put the tensioner back on the vehicle as above. check the belt tension from time to time to ensure that it has not stretched or loosened. .

john i plan to trade my 97 5.9 gas truck on a new cummins ho 6 speed. i made the decision after towing my 5500 lb trailer cross country. my daily driver is an 01 vw beetle tdi. ive come to appreciate the attributes of the diesel engine with this car. there is one hill on a side road here that the vw will climb faster than anything ive ever owned. you sound like a fan of manual transmissions; with the torque of any good diesel they are as easy to drive as automatics only more fun. drive the 2500 ctd and i think youll forget about the 1500 even being an option! check out the discussion forums at http//www.turbodieselregister.com for everything you need to know! looking for some help deciding between 3/4 ton gas/diesel. since i dont tow much my reflex is to go gas... just by the new hemi. but here are my parameters... 1. i live at 9500 and my commute takes me up and down the mountain. i want an engine/tranny combo thats well suited for this over the years. making this climb one or more times a day will a diesel last longer... all other things being equal 2. i want the best fuel efficiency so will diesel fare better in making the climb than gas 3. for performance and safety winter mountain driving i want a manual transmission. unless im wrong that rules out the new 1500. 4. i will on occaision tow equipment up to my place for excavation landscaping work etc. so basically i need a really good utility vehicle that i can count on for years. i dont have a religious preference gas or diesel im just looking to make the sensible choice. suggestions/comments thanks. .

doug; id say 30 is a bit low i like to see a minimum of 40 in an r-134a system but will defer to cbhvacs expertise on this one. g a/c malfunction continued so i take my truck into my local 5 sphincter dealer since im going to south dakota from san francisco and with all of nevada and the utah salt flats in front of me i aint goin without a/c... i leave the truck with them for nine count em nine days. fred the wrinkled shirted crooked necktied service writer calls me and says the system was pressure tested ultraviolet dye was injected and no leaks were found so they re-charged the system and it now blows cold as can be.... upon my return to pick up the truck i switch on the a/c and it is the same as when i dropped it off. no a/c! the service writer grabs his trusty ultraviolet light and starts scrambling all over the front end of the truck and can find no evidence of dye indicating a leak anywhere. service writer suggests i leave truck for another week so they can check further into the problem. my reply is sorry pal you just had nine days and fixed nothing. i gotta go to sd so check it now. i leave truck for rest of day. that afternoon service idiot calls me and sez they found failure in a/c lines condensor also evaporator. recommend to replace and recheck. at a cost of $1500+. i asked him about calling dodge to inquire about a good-will repair since the failure was so dramatic involving virtually every part of the a/c system short of the compressor. i pointed out that he could see the truck has very low mileage is obviously in perfect condition. i also indicated he had the records in front of him demonstrating a religious maintenance regimen and lastly is barely a year out of warranty. i further indicated that as someone with many years of experience with a certain american motorcycle manufacturer it was not impossible and certainly worth a try at the least. he refused this request acting as if he had never heard of such a thing. i actually told them over the phone to do the job since i had all that desert etc. to cross but fortunately the service flack told me they did not have all the parts in stock and couldt do the work until two days after my scheduled departure. thus i figured id take the truck tough out the drive and have it fixed in sunny south dakota since i was gonna be there for two weeks and discomfort aside id at least save money on labor compared to the bay area. knowing they used the dye i return to retrieve my truck and ask them to show me the leaks at the places mentioned. nothing was visible to my untrained eye. except at the valve where the dye was injected where any fool could see flourescent greenish-yellow fluid all over the nipple black light or not. i climb into the truck and flip on the a/c. voila! it is blowing cold! the next day it blew cold and the day after that too. i checked the pressure in the low pressure line daily and it remained the same day after day. so we loaded up and headed out to sd. that was two weeks ago yesterday. 16 days and 4000 miles later im still waiting for the leaking a/c to stop working! even in temps of well over 100 max ac cooled the interior to comfortable levels quickly and if i aimed the left vent at my hand i had to re-adjust it cause my hand got numb from the cold. all of which leads me to one last question; what is the correct pressure i should be seeing on the low line mine has not varied by a pound in over two weeks. i reads in the 30 lb range but it does jump up and down by about five pounds as the compressor cycles on and off. i also have frost forming which gary indicated is a possible sign of low pressure. as always tia doug .

tom thought you might want to know that i found and fixed the problem. the sensor in the rearend checked out ok the way you said to test it....as i was crawling out from under the truck i noticed one connection that i didnt see earlier...it is where the coated 2 wire changes to regular twisted two wire via a snap connect plug...located on the frame just above and behind the gas tank...i didnt catch it earlier and just for kicks i unplugged it cleaned it a little and reconnected it and that was it...one stupid simple connection caused all the problems and 3 days of hunting but at least it is fixed. thanks again for all the input info and help...i really appreciate it. paul to my mechanic and he told me to never disconect the neg batter when dash lights like that come on because it clears the error codes. that would be why your truck wasnt giving out any error codes. you dealer should have known this. no. the abs system is its own self-contained unit and doesnt set engine diagnostic codes. most generic scanners wont talk to the abs computer so theyre useless in determining abs faults. fortunately the earlier relatively speaking... 94-97 rams allow you to output abs codes via the method discussed here. guys with later-model trucks are pretty much sol when the abs light starts glowing .

i have been reading the discussions about gas mileage with and without cruise control and i always thought that you got better mileage with cruise control. i conducted a short unscientific test and came up with the following ram 1500 with 4.7 engine and auto transmission. there is a 2.1 mile flat circle around a mall here in sunrise fl. i drove around the circle at 32 mph with cruise control on and got 22.3 mpg on the indicator. without cruise control and trying very hard to keep the same speed i got 23.1 mpg. both trips there was no traffic and i was able to hold the speed more exact without cruise control. with c/c on i could feel the little surges and coasts and this is probably responsible for the increased mileage. i know that this might not translate into the same results at 70 mph on a highway but i think that it might. cruise control is handy and i will continue to use it on the highway but i think that i could get a little better mileage without it. the trade-off would be that i would have to really pay attention to my foot on the gas pedal and concentrate. don d. .

mike simmons wrote snipped i know tom and you are absolutely correct it sadly does happen but to listen to some in this ng it sounds like every dealer is a crook and that is painting with a mighty broad brush. mike had an experience with a toyota dealer a few years ago. my wifes 91 corolla was near the 30000 mile mark and we had it in for service. i always check fluid levels and knew the tranny fluid was clean and smelled good. since it was due for a tranny fluid change we had it done. the service manager came out with a jar of foul smelling thick black crap and told us it was a good thing we changed it. i darn near busted him in the mouth. he wouldnt admit it of course but he sure sputtered a lot. now i think id have taken the jar from him and sent it in for analysis. hd in ny .

man. i have a 93 dak that the fuel pump went out about 2 years ago and i just went on down to autozone and got one for less that $200 and put it in myself. it took longer by me doing as i havent ever dropped the tank before so i had to figure it out but $800 seems quite high to me. i know there are a coupla service managers who hang out here so i thought id ask if $700 plus change seems like a reasonable figure to replace a fuel pump on a 97 dak. they quoted $400 and something for the pump less than $200 at napa and the rest was labor 2 hours and 15 minutes from the time they called for approval till the time they called and said it was ready for pickup. seems awfully high to me....thats at least $150 per hour just for the labor!! but id be happy to hear some rationale. .

maybe but you still have to inhale sometime although with all of the bs that tends to go on in here i can see why you would try to avoid it. i cant argue that.. g the east coasters are the only ones that can speak the language correctly. $6999.99 and a snow blower and he can keep the plow since i doubt that i will need either one in nc. if he keeps the blade what is he going to do with it hang it on sues eldo he can see it and increase his income on the truck $6999.99 and a book on how to train the dog to use a shovel. sorry but his keeping the plow and my snow blower add up to more value than your shovel and book. try again - denny -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .
