for that it would be better to talk to one of the other guys like tom lawrence. i think it can but im not sure. the pcm can be re-programmed by the dealer to accomodate the new tire size. hell need to tell the techs the new revs per mile of the tire usually available from the tire manufacturer. alternately it can be calculated based on the advertised size of the tire. in this case it works out to 630 revolutions per mile. .

every morning i get in my 1998 dodge dakota 3.9l auto tran. 2wd start it up and drive approximately 7 miles. i then park it where it sits for approximately one hour. i then start it for the return trip. when i start it this second time without fail the brake and abs lights will remain on. this has been going on for better than a year. the speedometer works fine as does the cruise control. so do the brakes. if i start it later in the day if it has been idle for three or four hours the lights go off. if it has been a shorter time they may or may not remain on. i changed the differential speed sensor about a 18 months ago when the lights came on stayed on and the speedometer started to fluctuate. at the time i got an obdii scan done at the place that does my brakes and they came up with no fault codes however advised that i probably would solve the problem by changing the sensor. it did for about six months then this described above started happening. any one got a clue the abs controller will not set any odbii codes but it does store error codes of its own. you have to look at the fsm for the method. mine did the same thing and it was not the speed sensor. fortunately for me i only have rear abs and just disconnected the damn controller had to get it into inspection and would never pass with those two light lit and have not had a problem since. if you have 4 wheel abs or want it to work get it into the dealer for them to read the codes from the abs controller to see where the real problem possibly lies. you could also flush out your brake system and check the flexible / replace anything damaged as that may clear it up as well. also dont forget that the 4 wheel system has speed sensors on the front wheels as well and if one of those sensors or harness is failing you will also get the abs light even though your speedo is working normally. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

there is nothing wrong with the design budd what is wrong is the cost cutting in the parts such as in the bearings used to make them now. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving whats really odd in my opinion is the old 79 d-150 my son now drives has the 9.25 axle in it with over 400000 miles on it afaik. i put one set of outer bearings in it at just under 300000 otherwise untouched. so whats gone wrong with that axle design since 79 -- budd cochran john 316-17 ephesians 28-9 romans 323 623 our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. it is wholly inadequate for the government of any other. john adams thanks people! i checked the pinion depth and mesh pattern before removal so i have a good reference. i suppose i could just go for it and use a new shim of same thickness then install and recheck the depth. if it comes up short i could add shims behind the bearing race in the housing. if it comes up long i have a problem 50-50 chance! im glad i read about the problems people are having with pinion bearings here. i started to get the whine that at first sounded like tires. i figured that at 70k my gears should still be fine but after reading about early failures i blocked up the rear and ran it unloaded and in gear...ugh! just as a data point the truck is a 98 w/70k miles 2wd 5.8l 1500 and has towed the occasional heavy load but in general has been treated well. the only other problem has been an annoying coolant leak at the thermostat housing. -bruce -- posted via a free usenet account from http//www.tera.com .

check the bulb first. me wrote hi all! got a great 1996 dodge ram 1500 sport extended cab. seems to be great but when i shift into 4x4 i get no dash light indication. it sure seems to be in four wheel drive but no dash indication. called dodge and they want to harge me over $50.00 do diagnose it. i figured somebody out there must have a clue to tell me what to check before i go pay the dealership lots of $$$ to fix something that may be simple. any ideas thanks! .

i hope i didnt just make a big mistake. 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad with 4wd 100500 miles. i just today replaced the goodyear tires 275/60/20 with michelin cross terrain 305/50/20. now my worry is that since these tires are about an inch shorter lowered my truck an inch how far off is my speedo going to be am i losing fuel economy and will i damage the rear or tranny please let me know something. .

when i get my ass to fl im going to need a putor for the house. i want to leave this one here in ma for sue to use and the times when i come up. i dont do a bunch of gaming but i might. i do a lot of reading on the net. i like a big monitor for all the pink bunny pics. i thought about a laptop even more when i was trying to figure out the navigation question but have pretty much settled on a garmin. thanks to all for your help and info on that. anyway a laptop will limit the size of the monitor. so lets hear what ya think especially you folks in the field. brand reason why and price they go for if ya have the info. tia roy you can plug any size monitor you want in the back of the laptop. you dont have to use the lcd when your at home or the office. -- --scott hendryx-- thats is very true roy if you really wanted the laptop for the navigation use you should be able to get the optional docking station for the laptop you buy. that would allow you to use a standard keyboard mouse setup and give to the ability to use a conventional monitor or even tv unit if you have one that has dmi or vga inputs. you dont need the docking station you can plug all of that and more directly into the back or sides of laptop. -- --scott hendryx-- true but there are advantages to a dock like now having to plug/unplug everything if he needs to or when he uses the laptop in his ram. either way a laptop can be used for your needs. oh sure i have three docks myself. i was just saying he didnt need a dock to make this work in case hes strapped for money. -- --scott hendryx-- knowing roy he is not strapped for money just cheap. vbg a real smart ass you are today!vbg ya filling in for wide ride the info is cool but im really leaning away from the laptop. also want a warranty dont have or want to acquire the talent to build one. if im in fl i want to pick the phone and say it dont work come and get it or where do i send it. roy .

with a pair of gloves on.... nothing worse than gear lube on paw fur.... oh but there is.... gear lube in your face/mouth/nostrils. back when i was workspace-challenged and did my vehicle work on a creeper in my driveway i was attempting to remove a rear diff cover. i had most of the bolts removed and a gasket scraper tapped underneath the cover. as i pulled on the gasket scraper much the same way you would pull on a screwdriver to tighten an axle adjuster nut i pulled myself on the creeper towards the axle just as the silicone decided to let go and popped the cover up. not fun.... not fun at all. i smelled gear oil for the next several days. but with you it cleans right off maybe with a little elbow grease. could you immagine the stained pink fur! yuck.... denny .

day to day things about once every other day. now the problem with the new truck is that i have a one car garage and wont even attempt to pull the truck into it. i may be able to get it in but would certainly play heck getting it back out. - oh come on! be adventurous. - i have a two car two door garage. when i first purchased my house i was concerned that my truck wouldnt fit into the garage from height depth and width perspective. the result is that it does fit but i have to 1 width fold the side mirrors in. i have about 6 inches total width 3 inches on each side if i stab it directly center of wiggle room when pulling in. 2 height my satellite radio antenae pod sits on top of the cab. i am just able to squeeze under the top of the door opening with 3/4 to spare. 3 length i have exactly 2 inches total of extra room. so if i leave my hitch on i cant close the garage door. i only pull it into the garage when 1 the weather is getting bad or 2 when i know i wont be driving it for a few days. your truck may fit. problem is if you truly have a one car garage the only way out is the sliding rear window. - craig c. i just bought a cover for it for the winter snow and ice. but if hail is in the forecast i probably will attempt it. i will probably have to have someone else pull it back out though. the garage is off-set just slightly so it makes the situation even worse for pulling back out. i have already backed back into the gate that is between the detached garage and house with my old car. i can just see me backing straight back into the corner of the house! holy crap. lol numan no no your using the brail method. g go to a parking lota m/t one and try to get familiar with the truck. park it between the lines back it between the lines. you gotta learn where the heck the corners are. have somebody guide you while you use your mirrors stopping you just before you make contact. do you have the small dime mirrors stuck on your factory mirrors they should help. roy someone suggested them so i bought them and put them on my truck. they do help with parking lot lines. i didnt think about the garage. that is a good idea. numan .

i bought projector headlights and installed them tonight. the low beams are working but i am getting a back feed on the high beams. let me explain the low beams are bright but the high beam indicator glows dim the high beam bulbs have no glow. when i switch to high beams the high and low are on but are very dim. the bulbs share the ground. do i need a resistor or a different switch -- billy 1995 ram 2500 4x4 cummins .

all noises are clues. no noise is good. all noises are bad. some noises are very expensive to resolve and others are very inexpensive. if you want help please do better to explain the kind of noise. where it is coming from and what you and the vehicle are doing when they occur. steve i have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 with about 70k miles on it 4wd. recently it started making strange noise. the most typical way to make the noise is to start braking from higher speed and slow down to about 20-30 mph. it is hard to say where the noise comes from. it also appears if i just coast at that speed range. sometimes there is more of it and sometimes less. the noise frequency is proportional to speed if i slow down the frequency goes down also. it is rare to appear below 20 mph. i will be happy to do more experimenting and report my findings if necessary i am worried about it. i .

the only bolts you need to remove after you take the brake caliper and rotor off are 3 14mm 12pt. bolts on the back of the steering knuckle yeah - thats what holds the hub to the knuckle. im confused by your statement its not necessary to take the hub apart. the hub is a sealed unit - it cant or at least isnt supposed to come apart but it does need to be removed from the knuckle. it was never stated to disassemble the hub - only to remove it from the steering knuckle. .

after you remove the brake caliper the rotor should just pull off. at least that is how it is on my truck. 2500/3500s are different than your 1500. trust me ive done enough of them - the hub is pressed into the rotor. .

i have a 2004 durango hemi and a 2004 ram 1500 hemi. when the tailpipe goes under water both vehicles start to blow steam and the engine light comes on. last week just after leaving the engine runnig while i loaded the boat - the valves started knocking really loud and now i have a hefty repair bill to reinstall new valve lifters. does anyone have any ideas why none of my other trucks have ever had this problem. err perhaps you are backing your vehicle too far into the water...just a guess. .

so ive finished all the interior of my truck now stem to stern of the cab was sandblasted fiberglassed primed covered in thick undercoating and topped off with a nice new carpet. which brought me to the seats. the drivers side seat was trashed both the fabric and the foam - and then it dawned on me ive had a pile of black leather hiding in my closet for the last decade and i think its time to bring it to good use so im thinking black leather seats with one of those back massager/heating cushions put inside the seat before it goes back together and the most /absolute most/ soft cushy foam i can find to replace the standard foam that comes from the factory. basically you know those 100000 high end sedans with the ungodly awesome leather seats in them.. i want to make some of those for my truck. the only part of this that i need help with is figuring out how i can make it ungodly soft and squishy to sit in. 1 what specific types of foam do i use for this 2 do i use just one type of foam or do leather upholstery professionals use combinations of secret things to make the ultimate comfortable seat 3 do any of you know any sites you have bookmarked which discuss these types of questions - and can you share them with me ive done some asking around locally but aside from using sewing foam which is necessary for sewing to the leather - and then rebond foam which is not comfortable they almost always use the pre-existing factory foam and just cover the seats with the leather. which is what i dont want to do thanks james .

i am getting ready to do a transmission fluid change including band adjustment. the manual is talking about a 46re or 47re transmission. there is a slight difference in the number of turns of the band adjusting screw depending on the actual transmission. any idea how i can find out which one i have the identification numbers on the tranny dont give me that detail. a hint i got in the auto parts store was the number of bolts on the pan might give me a clue - it has 14 bolts. 2000 dodge ram 1500 pickup 5.9l engine 2w any help is greatly appreciated. axel .

anyone here have any experience with any of the larger salt spreaders for pickups for ice/snow control looking at stainless steel models. laz we sub it. found that it was to much of a pia to store it. then ya need to keep a loader there to refill it the loader needs to push too.. we use a company that does highway sanding and he makes a pass through as needed. but fisher has a poly hopper out that you might want to look at. www.fisherplows.com and where you live that makes sense but here snow is not much of an issue. ice is the big thing here and if you want to make any money then the ice is what you need to be able to remove. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

wow i have the same truck year model engine trans 4x4 use it for 4x4 camping regulary and have never had a problem at 110k miles except for 2 recalls. maybe the only difference is i have the tow package with its better cooling. i have many rolling hills and as soon as the trans starts hunting between d and o/d i take it out of o/d until im back on flat ground again. when decending long twisting mountain grades i put it into 1st for as much engine brake as possible and dont up-shift without a little pressure on the accelerator so i dont get such a hard shift. i have a 99 dodge ram 1500 4x4 quad cab w/ 360 v-8 and auto trans. i am on my forth trans. my truck currently has 145000 miles. every 40-50 thousand the tranny would go. im always off-road camping or what-not but nothing that would justify needing 4 transmissions. .

how old is it how many miles on it -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving i just bought a dodge ram 2500 with a v10 and automatic transmission. the transmission nearly always slips in going from 1st to 2nd and just about sometimes when i just accelerate at low speeds. it also slips as i am driving on cruise control when i am driving up and down slopes on the freeway i think it is shifting into overdrive not sure. does this sound like a pcm problem or do i need to have the transmission rebuilt has anyone else ever experienced this problem. thanks. .

i have always been a dodge owner most of my life there was one big ford mistake years ago which made me an even stronger dodge manwell anyway i got my current 97ram with 56000 miles on it and so far have had nothing but problems startera long hesitation when you place it in drive sometimes where it just sits like its in nuteral and yes i checked the fluid level and its ok and eventualy with a loud clunk it goes into gear finally on its own this sounds like a defective check valve in the transmission cooling lines which allows the tc to drain. try putting it into neutral for a few seconds before shifting it into gear and see what happens. it also has that viberation at about 45 mph is when it starts almost like a front end viberation did you have the tires balanced i have goodyear tires when i put it in 4wd and turn the wheel hard right or left it does make noise and seems to kinda bump along oddly that is because it is a part time 4 wheel drive and is not designed to be used during dry conditions like you are doing. the brake lines went broke between the gas tank and frame of the truck so i had to take it in to have it repaired because of the location which required it to have to be put up on a liftand funny how when i called they told me exactly where the rupture in the brake line was a defect in design which causes it to rot out there well all lines were in bad shape after 56000 miles and had to be replaced i saw the lines they were horriablethe damage $500.00 bucks yea they did use a somewhat low grade material there but what are the road conditions where you live as in salt usage. now what makes me wonder is i hardly ever go off roading with it and only put about 10000 miles on it a year at best seems to me thease problems are a bit premature for the light use it gets anyone else having similar problems by the way be prepared to pay $200.000 for the cheapest starter you can get but you do get a core charge back for the old one still way over priced for a starter. smal it is a 9 year old truck hardly brand new and many of the problems that you described are more due to age than anything else. do you know who owned it before you did it used to pull a trailer like a boat and put it into salt water there are many reasons why these problems could occur. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

.. i can get. seriously traveling alone asii will most of the time i guess i want something that i dont have to unpack to read. how much do they go for the garmin or the like you dont read a nav system as much as listen to it. i have a factory nav system in my truck and although i look at it from time to time mostly i just listen to the audio queues in 1/2 mile take the exit for two eighty-seven south. given that plus the fact that most of them change from the moving map display to large iconic visual queues such as a 90 left arrow a 45 right arrow etc. screen size really isnt that important. how loud are the queues must have a volume control sorta hard of hearing and with the noise of the truck..... roy i have no problems hearing it and yes it has a volume control. and my hearing isnt the best as you know i work high speed production lots of noise. -- ---------------------------- -chris 05 ctd 06 liberty crd real trucks dont need spark plugs .

the previous owner of my 96 ram 1500 installed an aftermarket cd player and totally destroyed the factory wiring harness for the infinity system the cam with the truck. to make matters worse he pretty much ripped the system out of the truck before i bought it. i now have a really ugly mess of wires with none of the factory connectors left. i am now trying to install another aftermarket cd player and i think i am almost done. i have made sense of almost everything except the signal line for the relay to supply power to the infinity amps the ones attached to the back of the speakers in the doors. does anyone know the color of the wire i need to connect a 12v+ signal to activate the amp relay i have read some messages about needing to ground a second wire as well. any thoughts .
