by the way after i got my music degree i did do airplane paint sanding masking prepping for a while lots of sanding rach btw remark about the 40s and 60s trucks you had is hardly fair -- any vehicle built back then is not like todays -- just as technology these days kicks ass and composite engines are surfacing they also dont put steel in bodys like they did which is why they didnt rust through and even the paints are different let alone application processes seen orange peel coats on new showroom cheaper line cars and even the good ones sounds like you are an expert what type of paint would you select for painting this van. thanks clyde i am not an expert -- we had no money and i worked for sewers and they distributed used paint once a year on a saturday for $1-3 a gallon -- i helped so mine was free grabbed all the enamel i was allowed i have talked to a few people about painting my van still original paint -- got it in alberta but has rusted so badly my son calls it the girraffe so use some chromium primer first once you have got all the rust out that has probably crept down from the roof on a newer van if you want it to last undercoat it and i myself would use army paint farm paint or maintenance machine paint -- price would be the factor for me but you probably have some money so get what you like -- doesnt matter they are all overkill -- but i would be partial to army paint because if you ever sell it the hunters will love it. and i would put a couple of rear convex mirrors on it a conversion roof to suit your needs since you have a rusty one id replace it unless you are a hobbit but if i was going to that trouble id get a class 3 hitch winch and also move up to 4x4 since im impartial to them ;- -- great backwoods camper even if it has a full time commercial job -- and great for moving sheds and broken down trucks i have decided to get the shed 77 gmc 350 van out of hibernation for a while -- had to use it again to push the 86 d150 home again -- ontario plates -- yes it was not properly licenced but that has never stopped me yet -- i know it is a gm but i am starting to wonder if the d150 needs a more serious job -- my ex suggested there may be engine parts missing for all we know and i am not going to pay for this -- if it needs that much work i am going in myself come spring and i cant wait that long for transportation rach .

on sun 29 jan 2006 180530 -0000 alan lehun try@reply.to wrote current average productivity in the european automotive industry is about 66 cars per employee per year. how do the states compare ill bite on this claim as soon as you provide a cite that explains the claim. i guarantee you mercedes production is far less more like 20 employees per car per year. if you are including pieces of shit of lesser quality than american made cars such as the honda accord than of course the number made would be higher than honda. without some data your claims are useless. ************************* dave .

the problem here max is this is a german company. i am talking about the american companies that lay off 500 workers and then give the ceo a 10000000 salary increase and bonuses for raising the profit margin. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving actually tbone look at what zeitsche is about to do at dc...... cut management jobs. -- max there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author no its about getting america to get off its lard butt and take back its industry but that would mean unions taking wage cuts and the epa being told to shut up and suck on a pine tree. how about we cut your pension or however you get paid. im so sick of hearing cut the employees wages as part of the cure all end all. who the hell here can afford a pay cut and the funny thing here is that all of these pay cuts come from the workers never from the owners or upper management. perhaps if the salaries of these big execs were brought back into reality we would also be far more competitive but god forbid that ever happens. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

not really its very relevant since ford has bought back 1000 units of the psd. problems range from turbo vanes breaking and being injested to engine management glitches. perhaps the most damaging in terms of per incident costs is the injectors that stick open and hydro-lock the engine. ford and navistar are said to be at odds over the issues and it has cost fomoco upwards of $500 million over their warranty costs in the previous year. hopefully your friend will not experience any of this. however given some of the stuff ive read he should absolutley keep records of maintenance and not attempt mods of any sort. i have a friend who just bought an 05 f250 as well so well see. -- max there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author heard some talk over the past few days about ford coming out with a new diesel. anybody here have any info that was fast... scrapping the 6.o-no already i havent paid much attention to ford for years but my friend that was looking at the mega cab has now been dragging me around with him looking at fords. the talk is in a couple of months a new power plant. maybe ford is tired of having its ass beat by the cummins. idont know which is why i asked the question. roy kinda moot now. he called and said he put a deposit on one of the fords we looked at earlier. dodge lost another one. roy .

budd cochran wrote no its about getting america to get off its lard butt and take back its industry but that would mean unions taking wage cuts and the epa being told to shut up and suck on a pine tree. if you want to buy american it needs to be owned and built here. japan and germany didnt lose ww ii they just waited and bought us off. thats put me off jaguar volvo saab land rover ford vauxhall and all the other american owned brands we buy in europe then. f*** um foreign things. well buy european domestic products like renault fiat and peugeot instead. but wait how does nationalism and protectionism help all those american ford and gm brands oh it doesnt it guarantees even bigger losses for them. perhaps americans only believe in free trade when the going is good for them yes that is probably it. fact is there is only one way to stem those losses at ford and gm and that is for them to become more efficient and trade their way out. it can be done. just look at the example of nissan which under french management has been transformed from imminent bancruptcy to a modern success story in less than ten years. there is nothing magical about japanese or german industry. just look at the present debacle at mitsubishi which daimler/chrysler could not turn around. if you want a global recession where you are absolutely guaranteed to have fewer sales and total business failures then certainly go protectionist. if you want continued relitive prosperity and employment then become competitive and grow your economy. there is no stopping china and other major competitors becoming more prosperous because they are coming around to the american way of doing business. if enough trade is done both ways then both economies win. obviously america has more to lose and china has more to win but what you need is a win/win situation. it is inevitable though that china will become a stronger economy than the usa in the medium term. huw .

suddenly without warning tom lawrence exclaimed 26-jan-06 302 pm i just realized on the way to work this morning that the fan in my 2002 dakota qc only works in the highest setting. i assume this to mean that i need to replace the fan is this correct nope - blower motor resistor block. look up under the dash and you should see it bolted/screwed to the blower motor housing. its got a wiring harness running to it with 4 wires. unplug the connector unbolt/screw the pack and replace it. fairly simple to do... fyi this is a common problem; my truck 2001 dakota been through two so far. third one if/when it goes ill replace myself. fyi its such a simple job that the chrysler dealer here in the uk hasnt charged me for installation of either of them! takes em 5 or 10 minutes. jmc .

a friend of mine has one. 15k lift cost him around 4k to put it in i found it to be a quality piece of equipment. ymmv not by much... http//home.earthlink.net/tlawren349/garage/fourpostlift-2.jpg thats my 15k 4-post lift. long wheel base 22 wide ramps dually-friendly. heres how i brought it home from the freight dock http//home.earthlink.net/tlawrence51/lift/lift1.jpg http//home.earthlink.net/tlawren349/garage/twopostlift-2.jpg thats my 10k two-post lift. i got that one first. a buddy and i unloaded that one by hand off of a semi that delivered it. not a lot of fun. it was handy to have to unload the 4-poster from the trailer... i backed the trailer into the bay and used the lift arms of the two-post lift to take components off the trailer - couple of pieces at a time. the two-post lift was fairly easy to install with just two people and basic tools a rotary hammer would be helpful for drilling the concrete for the anchors - i did it with my little 24v hammer drill but it took a while. the only heavy lifting is lifting the columns upright - i was able to do that myself probably should have two people for safety but i was impatient. the four-post lift needs some type of machinery - forklift backhoe something that can lift 800lbs. about 8 feet. thats the main beam with hydraulic cylinder that spans the columns. its about 14 long. we did it with a combination of an engine hoist a tranny jack and some 6x6 blocks. i dont recommend that for anyone else... it was decidedly unsafe. the tracks weigh close to 1000lbs. each but they can be moved around on some moving dollies. oh yeah - the four post lift needs 16 holes drilled in the concrete to anchor it. i rented a rotary hammer for that after burning up the motor in my little hammer drill on the 2nd hole amazing how much harder concrete is with its 2 years old vs. 1 month .
