it should be rated 460 lb-ft from 1600-2700 rpm peak hp 235 at 2700 rpm. thanks. whats the best way to get it to run identical or close to my cummins 600 chip look on the drivers side of the timing case for the cpl data plate. thanks. whats a cpl data plate how much of a load will you be pulling i have a 99 2500 qc 4x4 short bed auto with the 215 hp 420 lb-ft cummins and the same gears. it tows 6000 lbs in the mountains of tennessee very well. i dont expect to tow very often with the truck but sometime next spring im going back to north carolina to move my brother and his family out here with us. my wife will drive one of my dodges and ill drive the other one and well both tow 24 enclosed trailers back with everything that my brother and his family owns. i could put the heavy stuff on the trailer being pulled by the new dodge if i need to but on the other hand i dont want to feel like the 01 is handicapped and be afraid to load it down also. thanks! .

whats the matter tom upset that your right wing idiot got beat. tom - youre the one with the obsession here. and if you doubt that take a look at the amount of posts from you since the debate and how many of them relate to the intended subject of this group. as for me i dont really have an opinion one way or the other - certainly not enough to spend a good chunk of my time debating away on a freakin truck group. if this is true then wtf are you posting in it now then if you didnt have an opinion you should have minded you own business. my point in all this youve pretty much proved over this past year that you dont know what youre talking about when it comes to trucks... now youre hell-bent to prove the same about your political knowledge. and in that youre making astounding progress. keep up the good work. lol really tom then please list a few instances in the past year where i was wrong and dont pussy out of it again like you did in the transmission pump thread. wtf!! all of us are wrong at one time or another. the deal with you is you seem to think that you arent. hell you were dead wrong about the lightning /srt10. i know that all of us are wrong at one time or another but some in here make it a big deal if im not absolutely correct. why is that roy as for the lightning a perfect example of above i was not completely wrong. i said that you needed numbers close to that of the srt10 to beat it and your link pretty much confirms that. putting a fairly high overdrive on the blower and reprogramming the computer and a high flow filter does add some considerable hp to that engine but it does it without increasing the durability of either the engine or drive train. at least one person on that group made these changes and was supproized that it is still running without failure after 10 months. not exactly the definition of reliability there and most of the ones with these mods indicate that they are not using them for towing anymore. now while it does appear to be less expensive to get them to this point than i thought they are not there and completely dependable either and they are at the top of what they can be. the srt10 is only at its beginning. face it tom you love to argue or debate over anything. oh yea budd miles gary max and a few others are completely innocent of that lol! look at the kerry/bush thread. it is pointless you know it as does everybody else but you cant help yourself. they both suck!! believe me i know kerry i live in ma. the thing is bush sucks more imo. have you noticed in conversations jerry and i refer to them as your idiot or my idiot thus there is no long drawn out bs. he will vote for his idiot and i will vote for my idiot no muss no fuss. you are correct in the fact that neither one is a true winner. i find it amusing that when others post the political shit it is ok but when i do it and in my case it was really nothing but a header i am the only one doing it. although i dont get why jerrys idiot is cutting funding for the va when their case load is increasing but thats another story. he has to pay for those tax cuts somehow. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

less air density so not as much oxygen in the mix so it takes longer to burn. advance the spark about 8 degrees and see if that helps. the idle may come up just by rotating the distributor. we had the timing set at 1968 specs 12 btdc so 8 more would probably be too much i dont recall if re-jetting is easy or not but that would be a good idea too. you need to go quite a bit leaner from stock. dont know if that beast has any altitude compensation probably not but if so make sure its working before doing much else. the old carter bbd series carbs never have had what could be called easy re-jetting and jets have usually been a bear to find. no altitude compensation carb is off a 73 dart 318 so that one less thing to check looking on the bright side. thanks for the help. -- budd pres. bush john kerry has changed his position on the iraq war so many times he could debate himself. b.c. and lose. .

thanks for the reply nosey. it was just enough to kick a couple braincells awake. vbg it started after he changed altitude 4300 here and 7200 there. hes not seeing any smoke black rich or blue-gray oil and we checked the timing chain when he tuned the truck up about 3 months ago. it was still good. thanks again. -- budd pres. bush john kerry has changed his position on the iraq war so many times he could debate himself. b.c. and lose. budd cochran wrote just got a phone call from my son at wyotech and hes having a little trouble with the old d-150 79 with 318 auto. engine is also equipped with a carter engine knock eliminator laramie is at 7200 ft asl and moab where the truck was last tuned up is at 4300 ft. hes running into a problem of low idle rpm 350 in gear and engine warmed up 425 out of gear and sluggish acceleration. i suggested resetting the idle to 625 rpm out of gear about 550 in gear but i drew a blank on if the timing needs reset and which way. i havent had to adjust a vehicle to high altitude since 82. tia advance the timing and lean out the carb a bit if the idle mixture isnt sealed. you already know to bump up the idle speed. did this problem arise with the altitude change or did it start acting up after getting there if the altitude change didnt cause this the symptoms make me think the timing chain jumped a tooth. .

what i have noticed is that it is more important to have the rpms in a certain range when making your shift and letting the clutch out. takes a little more finesse at feathering the throttle than the fords new process 435 required. i havent noticed what i would call a slap but get more of a thunk in the drive train when it isnt happy with my rpms. usually because my rpms are too low. also the clutch seems to have a longer area in the upper part of the pedal travel where it engages. the bottom third of the pedal travel doesnt seem to effect clutch engagement as much as the upper portion. you can tell its just starting to grab in the lower portion but is halfway up when it really starts to grab. i think we have to learn to shift a little differently with these dodges as they are not as forgiving as the old fords. i still stick by my opinion that our transmissions are a bit weak probably due to the aluminum case. the 3/4 tons come with a cast iron case on the manual transmission. i have no concerns with the clutch. i still love my truck though even if it doesnt have a bullet proof tranny. mine is flame red with the work group package. dark grey bumpers and grill. i havent seen another one like it anywhere. i did see a dark blue one with a utility bed a few months ago that had the work package. bill thanks for your information glad to see someone else is also experiencing some of what im seeing. now that you mention it i will say that 1st-3rd gears are louder than the ford gears but one could only hope that the noise is some of that dodge power pushing that transmission... wishful thinking! ive thought more about what i said regarding the transmission and i did some playing yesterday and i will say the clutch engage point doesnt seem to be on the floor as you would find in other vehicles after a new clutch is installed. the way i see it and maybe you can comment on what you are feeling but i know the clutch is contacting the flywheel the truck is rolling but if i dont take it slow from that point i can feel a slap like something else is slapping the clutch or pressure plate. if i release real slow and easy everything shifts very nicely. i drove a 1987 ford f-150 single cab with the newprocess 4-speed and a inline 6 for 2 years defiantly different than this one. .

on flat roads a 3.54 screw will drag a balanced 7-ton 5th wheel down the highway just fine. to minimize or at least reduce the amount of shifting over hill & dale just punch the o/d button on the dash. fuel economy will worsen but if you bought the rig for towing i doubt fuel economy is one of your main concerns. just some things to think about; imo 90k on the clock of an 01 is about twice where it oughtta be dont you think the cummins might run forever but with 90k on it id be real interested in hearing the maintenance history of whats been done to the *rest* of the truck and when it was done. shocks tranny service differential service cooling system service wheel bearings etc. quite possible none of its been done. also whered it come in from it it came from another area of the country id consider that a red flag. is there some reason you think you -need- a 4 x 4 other than the fact it sits high and looks cool over the next 3 to 6 months i think were apt to see a lot of salvage recovery projects coming out of florida. no one sends an otherwise perfectly good vehicle to the crusher just because its been up to the sun visors in mud sand and salt water for a few days. montanajeeper@aol.com montanajeeper writes having now owned both a powerstroke and a cummins http//www.imageark.net/0002/ykdh9p.jpg ive determined the cummins is far superior. since im not ready to work out of the new dodge ive sold the ford and bought agreed to buy anyway will pick it up monday when the bank opens an 01 2500 cummins 4x4 quad cab short bed auto with 90000 miles to work out of. i wanted a long bed but at $19000 for an extremely clean truck i couldnt let this one get away. im wondering about the stock specs on the 01 cummins. hp/torque/mileage etc. any known problems or other issues any recommendations im also a bit concerned about the 3.54 gear ratio. while it seems very powerful unloaded i wonder how well such a tall gear will pull a load thanks .
