mac davis mac.davis@comcast.net wrote in on 16 feb 2004 012459 gmt joe avoidingspam@hotmail.com wrote theres a ho version of the 4.7 available - supposed to have over 250 hp. they say its better than the 360 but ill believe it when i see it. my 360 has 250 hp and will eat any 4.7 for breakfast as far as torque goes. i have a 4.7 in the dak and love it.. but its a replacement for the 5.2 not the 5.9... our ram has the 5.9 and as you said thats the torque producer... mac i dont know what dc is up to - ive heard that theres no r/t for 04 and the 360 will be gone from the dak starting in 05. seems like theres one big gaping hole in the pvo/srt lineup with the 04 and 05 dak. joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 mustang 5.0 lx hatch with a few goodies .

ive been looking at new dodge trucks for a number of years dreaming of the day when i would buy one. saturday i went to the local dealer and crawled all over a new dodge. i noticed a number of changes since my last crawl around. wonder if anyone can provide some information. on the 2500 4x4 the front axle on the older 2000-2001 trucks were danas. now they appear to be a 9 1/4 like in a half ton rear when did this change any problems with the new front axle when did they drop the locking hubs on the diesel i also noticed a general cheapening of the new truck. is dodge lowering their quality how does the new 5.7 compare to the 360 5.9 im most interested in longevity. al .

i really appreciate your help - just two more points and im good to go - what about the differential cover gasket do i re-use the one thats on there with fresh gasket sealer or do i need to have a new one handy - i dont have a torque wrench but i can sufficiently tighten a bolt or nut by feel with no problems. is a torque wrench a life-or-death requirement to do this im thinking in particular of .....the pinion shaft retaining bolt .....the differential cover bolts .....the bolts holding on the disc brake calipers thanks! ron m. .

rain is f**k all when it comes to lsd and mountian snow is usually cleared and sanded/salted within a few hours...you can drive through that for a day. im talking about the 4-5 months of snow and ice that we get. we dont have the luxury of having ever snowflake swept from the streets before we get up in the morning. combine that with below -40 temps for a few weeks and you get some pretty shitty conditions to be driving in though not as bad as those who live in the north west territories or similar areas ill bow to their judgement on winter driving. btw that is in northern canada and they have snow damn near year round which would make them experts on the tropic obviously you havent got much of a clue about the pros and cons about lsd vs open diffs. if it was that simple the automakers would make only one type of axle. it is a fact that on sub-optimal surfaces that lsd is more prone to sliding out the ass end when the traction isnt there. just because both wheels are spinning doesnt mean you go in a straight line. on dry land lsd is great and hell of alot of fun. ever wonder why it is easier to pull a sh*thook with lsd cause when the traction breaks its easier to spin around the tail end of the vehicle. with open diff you have the one rear tire thats not spinning wildly and it keeps some traction you can break this traction but its a bit harder to do. of course lsd can be driven in the same weather and as open diff but if you are not used to it or how it behaves then it can be dangerous. if you feel lsd is best for you then great all the power to you and have at er. i was just pointing out that there are pros and cons to both and that they drive differently. you are responding as if i insulted you mother whom im sure is a wonderful person and proceeded to call down the driving abilities of myself and those i know with no due cause. you love your lsd and thats fine and great but that doesnt change the laws of physics. talk to someone who has experienced real winters and has had to deal with them for several years. most of them will admit than an open diff is easier to control which in turn frees ones attention so that they can watch the road. lsd has its uses of course im sure everyone here can remember a time when they got stuck with and open diff because that one wheel just kept spinning. that doesnt happen with lsd that is a pro for the lsd. remember redneck just because someone has another person has a different opinion or suggestion than you doesnt mean that they are a poo-poo head a stupid dumb-dumb know shit about driving in ice and snow or whatever the 1st grade students are throwing around as insults these days....it means that they may have different experiences or even know something you dont imagine that. its pretty pathetic that you cant say something to the effect of yeah lsd has a tendency to swing the ass end out in turns when its slippery but if you are careful then its not an issue. i love my lsd and wont be without it. prime example of conceding a point but saying that you are wrong either which i will admit you would be right if you said that. even a simple statement saying that you drive in snow and lots of rain and have not had any problems would have be perfectly fine. but poor old redneck had to try and turn a simple matter of opinion into a pissing contest and sling insults at someone who has a different opinion than himself. what a great show maturity and tolerance that is where one cant even make a statement concerning their experiences regarding rear differentials with being called incompetent. kirk any man can piss on a wall but it takes a real hero to shit on the ceiling. lsd wont make it undriveable just makes it a pain in the ass to apply power through a corner on ice. if youre that uncoordinated you shouldnt be driving i grew up driving in ice and snow owned one set of snow tires in my life. owned vehicles with lsd and without had friends with lsds and detroit lockers on ice and snow. guess what no one i knew ever had problems like you or your friends seem to have. therefore i can only conclude that neither you nor your friends know shit about driving in ice and snow where i currently live we have significant rain. in an hour i can be in mountain snow i wouldnt be without my truck with lsd politics the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich. .
