which i assume means the transmission temp sensor is bad or the wiring to it is bad. is this a good assumption possibly... it could also be referring to the torque converter clutch solenoid. does your torque converter go into lockup so wheres the transmission temperature sensor located on the transmission just looking for some hints on where to start the hunt. its integrated into the governor pressure sensor which is in the valve body. if you probe the wire on pin #8 the center pin - might be a purple wire but im going by a 99 reference of the 8-way round connector on the drivers side of the transmission you might be able to tell if the temperature sensor is working. i believe this is a variable 0-5v output. i have no idea what kind of thermistor is used but would expect somewhere between 2 and 4 volts to be present on that wire if the trans fluid is up to temp around 120f. if you get either no voltage or 5 volts then yeah - the thermistors shot and youll need to replace the entire sensor. .

chevy and gmc use the duramax built in colaboration with mitsubishi. isuzu - not mitsubishi ford uses the new powerstroke which i believe is developed by international. yep - technically navistar which is a subsidiary of international i have also heard rummors that the cummins might not be in the dodge ram past 2007. can anyone verify this its anyones guess at this point. the contract with cummins runs out in 07... dc could renew or they could decide to go in-house. this came up once before - either in 01 or 02 and rumors were flying that cummins would be dropped because of the mercedes diesels available to dc in-house but obviously that never happened. .

thanx maxpower. i have checked the battery for corrosion but not with a load tester. will do that. computer has nothing to do with the lites accessories and all that have you checked the battery with a load tester and also make sure there is no corrosion of the battery ends to battery the electric system has completely shut down. nothing works in on or start position. clock light comes on in accessories position. the battery is fully charges and i can find no blown fuses. im wondering if this means the computer has gone out. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. --------------------------- = wake up america = .

i forget what yr chrysler started using those lifters it may have been in 86 i would check with your local dealer/parts supplier if that engine was not equipped with roller lifters they will not work. the block has to be designed to hold the lifters from turning in order to do this dog bone retainers were used glenn beasley chrysler tech i bought a cam and lifters for my 86 318 on ebay. the lifters are roller lifters. will these work in my engine without any modifications .

i have a 98 dakota and i think the ball joints are failing. the steering has become loose and when i turn say through a fast food drive through i here a clunking kind of sound and at highway speeds every litte bump in the road will cause the truck to bound all over the road. even on city streets the truck seems to bounce around way to much. . is this in fact my ball joints breaking down or could this be some other problem .

none of lower hose heaters of mine ever got too hot to touch unless it was going bad so it must be working ok. i would say radiator flow must be keeping it in check. -- budd whats the difference between a bad golfer and a bad skydiver one goes whack darn and the other goes darn whack. the heater feels hot but no where near as hot as if i tried to grab say the radiator cap after the truck had been running a while. my mechanic says these heaters should get to about 100 degrees fahrenheit and hes going to check it the next time i take it in for service. my only concern was that it might be malfunctioning and that that could lead to worse problems like fire. ive decided to plug it in today because it got below zero last night and the old girl was complaining a lot when i started her this morning. btw this is a 22 year old truck and probably the most reliable vehicle i have ever owned. after i wash it i get a lot of stares because it looks so good. it will be a sad day when i have to retire old brownie. pat .

id suggest also spending $1.50 postage and a $20 lab fee with blackstone labs for a spectrometric oil analysis. they can compare the wear particles in the oil with a zillion other same models in the same mileage range and give you a good reading on wear. they can also warn you of potential expensive surprises from things like trace amounts of antifreeze beginning to appear in the crankcase. rick max340 wrote let me start by saying i probably wont think/mention everything here since im hum an and will miss some of the details so read all posts in the thread to get the most from your questions. there are a bunch of knowledgable guys in here. 1 how do these diesel engines wear and what tests can be done to evaluate the engines condition are things like compression tests or leakdown tests meaningful in this case they wear just like any other engine although the cummins b series is particularl known for longevity. you could see million miles on it or it could fail in the next 100k. compression tests and leak down tests are a valuable tool in determining the health of the specimen you have. 2 without knowing anything about the engine aside from its mileage what servicing should i plan to have done snip .
