i had a similar problem with my 96 dakota 3.9 hesitation or stumble when taking off when cold. turned out to beafter much aggrevation my foward o2 sensor. if itssensor not completely bad it may not set a code but will cause you grief my 90 dakota 3.9 aod has a hesitation just off-idle. does it when first started but it goes away for a period when its just starting to warm up; then by the time its up around normal operating temp it is doing it again and stays that way. i thought perhaps by that discription someone wouldve had a similar experience possibly rather common. ign parts in good shape no codes. i dont want to just start hanging parts. .

art obd 11 will only leave the mil illuminated for emmision related malfunctions. the light will also indicate other driveline problems trans codes as well as bcm related problems. a code will be stored. get a scanner on it and it will reveal whats putting the lamp on. my vehicle is a 97 dodge ram 1500 115000 miles..recently had a complete tune up including transmission fluid/filter change. the check engine light comes on for about 1 day and a half and then all of a sudden on a random engine start it goes out. its been doing this for about 2 months where the light will come on unexpectedly while dring then stay on thorugh 3-4 engine starts then all of a sudden on the next engine start not come on. i thought the check engine light is suppose to stay on until the problem is fixed or the batter is disconnected. .
