Q: i am contemplating having a recommended mechanic put gauges in my truck 2004 ram 2500 ctd 305/555 4x4. i mentioned to him that i wanted 1 fuel pressure 2 tranny temp and 3 pryometer. he mentioned that a rail pressure gauge would be a better choice than a fuel pressure gauge since the lift pump issue was resolved after 2002. after the semi-heated discussion between nate and max i am left wondering exactly what set of facts to believe. so ill throw it out there for the pros in a.a.d.t. to opine about. should i go with a fuel psi gauge or a rail pressure gauge craig c. craig fuel pressure is not an issue with your truck unless it is bombed. i would go with a turbo boost gauge in lieu of fuel pressure. i have those three gauges on my ram. i installed em in an a pillar mount. he also has a seat temp gauge.g roy damned rabbit cant keep his mouth shut.... that was posta be a secret... ;^ mike .

about 1990 i knew a guy who worked at landfill running the heavy equipment. it was a hundred yards or so from the maintenance barn to the landfill. someone dropped off an old vehicle that he didnt want any more. they used it as a runabout on the landfill property. probably woulda not passed a safety inspect. but who cares its never on the road. he said one day he was fueling all the equipment so he pulled it up to the diesel pump and cranked er full. his comment was it never did run right after that. he didnt say it died stone cold so im guessing it did run some what. -- christopher a. young you cant shout down a troll. you have to starve them. .. is it possible to put a diesel engine into 1976 dodge sportsman van has anyone heard of someone doing it thanks! john .

you get a 239 cubic inch v-6 in a 4000+ pound vehicle and you want it to do 0-60 in less than a heartbeat . . . easy fill the back end with nitroglycerine and slam the liftgate. i find myself wondering which is the more stupid you for buying an underpowered for your needs apparently vehicle or me for wanting to ask you what the heck were you thinking for not considering it could be underpowered for what you need it to do. you might look for a better computer chip a some kind of supercharger there was one advertised in the group the other day or a vehicle with the engine you really need in it. -- budd cochran john 316-17 ephesians 28-9 romans 323 623 our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. it is wholly inadequate for the government of any other. john adams i just bought a 97 dodge dakota sport 146000 miles with a v-6 engine and 4 speed auto trans . i am wanting info on getting more power from the engine .i know a upgrade in the exhaust and intake air would be a good place to start but if any one has any suggestions where to go after that i would value your info. also i would like to know if these trucks in /around the same year model have any common problems. thank you. -- posted via a free usenet account from http//www.tera.com .

have are 1. where do i draw ignition-on power from and 2. where can i tie in to the dash lighting for the dimmer circuit i always prefer to tap the cigarette lighter power wire for ignition-on power since i never use that circuit this way if it blows i can still drive the truck. on an 06 its the pink/yellow wire. for the dimmer output tap the orange/brown wire coming from pin#2 of the headlamp switch connector be careful - theres another orange/brown on pin #4. lights are all controlled through the computer so i dont know if tieing into the dimmer wheel is the anwer. i run 6 gauges off of the dimmer signal wire on my 03 - not a problem. as for actually tapping the wires i really like the posi-tap connectors from posi-lock. theyre easy to put on dont mangle the wire can be removed easily and let you run multiple wires from the same tap. any auto parts store should have them. they look like this http//www.posi-lock.com/posiplug.html .

sure you can. youd need about half gasoline to get it started and it would not run very well when its cold. ive also heard of using a dual tank system and use kerosene after the motor is warmed up. worked on old farm equipment but not sure modern vehicles would put up with that. -- christopher a. young you cant shout down a troll. you have to starve them. .. is it possible to put a diesel engine into 1976 dodge sportsman van has anyone heard of someone doing it thanks! john .

on oct 21 149 pm mike simmons mike...@yhti.net wrote a boost gauge is useful to help drive for fuel economy and also to monitor the turbos output. if you can drive and keep your boost pressure 10psi you will be driving for max economy. should your boost plumbing or intercooler develop a leak the boost gauge will show a loss of pressure compared to what the nomral boost pressure should be. the boost gauge would be more useful than a fuel pressure gauge imho... different strokes i guess...... you know after thinking about it you bring up a good point. i have noticed over the past year a strange noise that comes from what i *think* is my turbo. it use to only do it when it was cold outside but now it does it all of the time. when i accelerate faster than usual rpms at say 2500+ the turbo stops whining and starts whistling. when i say whistle ... i mean it sounds like a human whistling. other than the possibility of a happy person stuck under my hood could i have a pin hole somewhere that cuases this or ... is this simply a normal sound could be normal but you probably have a loose clamp. roy craig c. .

regarding the 24v isb versus hpcr is the hpcr an improvement and worth paying extra factoring out the book value on the model year bill i have a 2001 ram 2500 ctd now and im looking to get a used 3500 ctd shooting for maybe a 2002 or 2003. big difference in those years... end of the 24v isb era vs. the start of hpcr era. the body style changed in 03 as well. the newer style had a larger available rear passenger area with the quad cab but worse aerodynamics. anything particular in those years to avoid etc. not really... the 03s had a couple of minor issues when first introduced ps hose that would buzz - fixed by changing the hose with a new revision alternator bracket prone to cracking - again simple fix couple of recalls to waterproof the pcm connectors and replace a tranny cooler line that was prone to cracking. those were all tsbs or recalls and were probably addressed by the original owners. .

on fri 20 oct 2006 214410 gmt max dodge max340@verizon.net wrote where are you guys getting this failure rate at 100000 the friggin things were dropping like flies between 12000-20000 miles before dc changed them. the failure rate quoted by the cummins article claimed a 17% failure rate within the warranty period. the warranty period is 100000 miles. thus the failure rate included lps that would have failed for reasons other than the vibration problem that caused the early failures. well..........on the bright side apparently it appears that the lp was warrantied as part of the engine 100000 miles rather than part of the fuel system which i think fell under the standard warranty period whatever the heck that was for second gens. .

this is my understanding as well that the normal failure rate was as you suggest and that i was lucky that mine lasted to nearly 100000 miles. i want to get hard numbers together to encourage honest responses to my charges. good luck with that since the only sources that have complete and solid numbers will be cummins or dc. they are very unlikely to release such data. -- max join www.devilbrad.com and find out what free exchange of info is all about. there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author where are you guys getting this failure rate at 100000 the friggin things were dropping like flies between 12000-20000 miles before dc changed them. this is my understanding as well that the normal failure rate was as you suggest and that i was lucky that mine lasted to nearly 100000 miles. i want to get hard numbers together to encourage honest responses to my charges. -- nathan in montana http//concealedcarryforum.com http//1911tech.com http//glockcarry.com .
