Q: okay you folks helped me decide on a police/fire scanner.i ended up with a bearcat bc-780xlt. now im looking at a utility atv. im leaning real hard towards a yamaha big bear 400 4x4. it will take a plow so that will take care of a major problem for me. the wife wandered around with me looking at them this weekend and was her usually supportive self her only thought was well you sold your truck so you need a toy get it if ya want. today i told her a friend was coming over saturday and was bringing a couple of his her response was good i want to try one maybe we will have to buy two if so mine has to be red god i love that girl! anyway i need your thoughts based on experiences not what ya read. bear in mind that a plow is a must as is 4x4. rabbit never mind the bs my fat ass will fit on one and yes it is able to pull me around.bfg tia roy .

now im looking at a utility atv. hi roy the big bear is a decent machine. im not real keen on swing arm rear suspensions no articulation but its still a decent set up. in atvs i really prefer the arctic cat line though. on top of superior specs arctic cat now offers a 2 year warranty compared to 6 months to 1 year on all others. good i want to try one maybe we will have to buy two if so mine has to be red god i love that girl! have you considered a yamaha rhino 660cc automatic transmission 4x4 spooled rear locker in the front 12.3 ground clearance.....if it will fit it will go anywhere that a typical atv will go. here are some pictures of mine if you dont know what a rhino is http//utilityoffroad.com/riders/nathan/index.html as you can see its perfectly at hom when the going gets rough. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com hey nate! welcome back. i looked at the rhino. they are about $1-2k more than the big bear. just was browsing the polaris site they have some interesting equipment there and a dealer 5 miles away. any thoughts on them roy .

i looked at the rhino. they are about $1-2k more than the big bear. ...but look at what youre getting. the safety of a roll cage and seat belts the ability to carry passengers in equal safety cargo room unmatched stability. ive been riding atvs for most of my life but now that i have an ruv i havent been back on my atv. not once. was browsing the polaris site they have some interesting equipment there and a dealer 5 miles away. any thoughts on them yes i dont like polaris at all. for starters i hate their front drive system. when you switch on 4x4 youre still in 4x2. the front wheels dont pull until the machine senses that the rear wheels are slipping. once the rear wheels stop slipping the front drive disengages again leaving you back in two wheel drive again until the machine thinks you need 4x4. this might work ok in a mud hole but it sucks for many other reasons. you cant power corner at speed because the tires are already turning at the same speed. also you have to hold down an override button to get 4x4 at all in reverse. finally because of the way the system is set up it doesnt give you 4 wheel engine braking only rear wheel engine braking. this is very dangerous on steep declines because it causes skidding. no thanks when i shift into 4x4 i expect to have 4x4. i dont like their macpherson strut front end which utilizes lower control arms only. i dont like their taiwanese fuji engines that polaris uses. finally i dont like their chain driven final drive. i know it has shafts coming out of the final drive to turn the wheels but the sportsman 500 uses a chain inside the final drive case. hell id rather have a honda than a polaris atv. great info nate. looks like i continue to lean towards the bear. glad you are happy with your rhino but they hold no interest for me. ya know what they say a ass for every seat and a seat for every ass. now to find one for mine. how about this while im picking your brain. discounting the rhino and artic cat what would you look at next roy if by chance youre referencing the polaris ranger an ruv similar to the rhino thats another story. the ranger is a very heavy duty machine. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .

ok thats funny ............but you do know its his first time right........next year when he saves up enough energy he is going to change the oil dominyon on saturday when i installed the shocks i was getting pretty worn out. if i understand this correctly you wore yourself out replacing 4 shock absorbers lets see that meant you had to remove 2 nuts/bolts per shock and then replace those same nuts/bolts changing a tire must really be a challenge for you you might want to try using some thread lubricant next time so you dont have to work so hard ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .
