phyloe wrote for years i have been seeing people put bags of sand in the bed of their truck during the winter. i have been questioning whether this little bit of added weight really helps traction. i figure the rear end of a truck weighs at least 1000 lbs. most people add 100 pounds of sand or several cinder blocks. so how could an additional 10% make any real difference isnt the rear end heavy enough as it is isnt the addition of sand or blocks just a psychological thing the perception of greater traction i put 4 tubes of sand in the back of my truck for winter traction enhancement. each tube weighs 70 pounds so four of them are getting up towards the 300 pound mark. thats significant. of course during the course of the winter the weigh gets reduced as i end up using the sand to get out of tougher traction situations. sometimes by the end of the winter ive used up a couple tubes! smh .

http//www.alertnet.org/the/desk/n09450483.htm us could seek recall of up to 600000 dodge trucks 10 dec 2004 024517 gmt source reuters reuters - the u.s. government has asked daimlerchrysler ags dodge to recall some of its dodge durango suvs and dodge dakota pickup trucks due to concerns over their safety chrysler officials said on thursday. the u.s. national highway traffic safety administration nhtsa is investigating durangos and dakotas from the 2000 to 2003 model years with four-wheel drive cbs reported on thursday. chrysler has until monday to respond to the regulators request a spokesman said. we are in the final stages of an investigation by nhtsa and us dieter zetsche chryslers president and chief executive told reuters. he said there was no recall of the vehicles at this stage. cbs said the government began investigating possible premature wear of the trucks wheel assembly following numerous reports of the wheels suddenly detaching and flying off. as many as 600000 vehicles could be recalled cbs said but a chrysler official said the recall would probably be much smaller. the government found that a third of the nearly 2 million vehicles investigated had defective upper ball joints cbs said .

on my old d150 about 300 pounds made a huge difference but i used snow myself. snows cheaper and ive rarely got stuck. you said that you never got stuck in the snow. i guess that was a lie. i hope youre not supporting t-bones erroneous viewpoint that all extra weight makes for longer stops. i said that depends on conditions budd. please stop twisting what i said to suit your desperate needs. btw your example about the bike rider shifts the existing weight to the rear it doesnt add any there so it is an invalid comparrison. t-bone you would be well advised to avoid threads about which you know nothing. budds comparison of the weight shift of the bike rider was accurate. if you know nothing about physics center of gravity moment of inertia etc. then you would be better off to remain silent. tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt mark twain mike more weight to the rear weight added to the bed that is will increase the traction and braking effectiveness by increasing the percentage of the weight that does not shift forward upon braking. care to explain that one. but snow and ice is what causes the most dramatic increase in braking distance if you dont add weight and far more that any distance increase from the weight itself. that depends on the conditions. -- budd whats the difference between a bad golfer and a bad skydiver one goes whack darn and the other goes darn whack. not bad. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

their obdii tool says exact same as before cyl #7 misfire. same cylinder how much trouble is it to do as you suggest above pretty simple. the fuel rail is easily accessed and just held down with a couple of bolts. the important step is to bleed the pressure first. first disconnect the negative battery cable for safety and to clear out the misfire code. remove the hold-down bolts and gently rock the rail back and forth while pulling it up. the injectors are just pressed into the bosses on the manifold and seal with an o-ring. you may be able to just pull the one side up or you may have to pop both sides out dont know - never tried to remove half a fuel rail. disconnect the electrical connectors on the two injectors you want to swap then remove them from the fuel rail little finny-looking clip that holds them on. swap them and put a thin coat of vaseline or grease on the o-rings all eight of them so that they slide back into place easily. push the injectors back into the ports and re-secure the hold-down bolts. make sure you re-connected the electrical connectors hook the battery back up and drive it. if the code comes back with a different cylinder you know its a bad injector and you know how to change it. if it still indicates a cyl #7 misfire well.... well tackle that if the need arises .

cant help you with your dilemma. like you i have been thinking of making the step to such a purdchase. you mention 50 k invoice. sounds pretty high even with canada/us conversion but i guess you have your figures. taxes like that sound tough. it is about 6% here in most localities -- if you live in a town. i dont live in a town so dont have to pay any city tax which helps. buying at the end of the year like this means that you pay a whole year of property tax on the vehicle -- here about $600. if you wait until after the first of the year you dont pay for 2005 since you didnt own it on the first day of the year -- assessment day. hence there are usually some deals coming along at the end of the year to entice you to make that purchase and save the dealer from paying the property tax on the vehicle. in the us there is $2500 rebate on the 04s and $1000 on the 05s. i dont know if they will get better after the first of the year. my local dealer has offered to sell a 05 for invoice - 3% so doesnt sound too bad. he just doesnt have what i want right now and i dont want to order. a guy that is willing to spend that kinda dollars on a truck could be one not likely to put 300000 on this truck; therefore you need to factor in the depreciation at trade in time. one year of depreciation will be worth x dollars. miles seems to be the biggest factor in value but model year still carries some weight. if you come up with any epipheny let me know -- im still looking. phil folks i have lurking around for 2 months now and am totally convinced i want to get a ctd! im not new to dcx products and own jeep cherokee and a tj. the jeep is now getting tired and we recently got a cottage and snowmobiles and also own a 25 boat. sooo justification for a diesel is there. wife and kids are onboard. it took me while to digest and accept the $50k invoice canadian 05 2500 stick ctd laramie + few options. i need help in deciding what to do. i work for a supplier to dcx so getting invoice is not a problem. i have been waiting for dcx to announce some deals and/or rebates for 2 months now and nothing - nothing for 05 except 1.8% financing for 36the las months. we pay 15% taxes here in ontario and thats a killer. so i check for 04s since dcx will eat one tax and give $500 .our friendly dealer found 2 for me 5000km away - in bc!! and he will sell to me at invoice. i asked for a better deal since in 3 weeks it will be a year old!! they would not do it!! so the only difference between a 05 and 04 is savings on 1 tax - 4k. my options are 1. order 05 now and hope some rebates will be there by delivery time feb 05. has dcx in the past offered rebates on model year trucks early in the year anyone know. 2. buy the 04 and save invoice - 4k. i would think they would offer some credit for depreciation!! what would you do anyone from canada would like to share the price on their recent purchase thanks guys. i have not even considered gm or fords - stuck to this forum everyday and am convinced dodge is the way to go - besides they look awesome!! .

the problem is if you have any red dye fuel in your tank any tank while on a public road. the only ones that get away with it are farm vehicles that are not registered for road use and only travel on roads when going from field to field you know the ones that you get stuck behind and cuss at when trying to make time on a country road. ken gene wrote around here the logging contractors are a target for random stops on sr66. it seems pickups with an off road fuel tank in the back get checked now & then. i know of one contractor who got hit for 10 grand... ten grand! ouch!!! i wonder. in my old 1971 f250 it had two gas tanks and a switch under the dash. could i fill one with offroad fuel and one with onroad fuel then switch back and forth as i travel on road and offroad say i worked on a farm and had a farm truck and stayed on my farm 90% of the time and only went into town in that truck once a week. i dont want to be buring road gas if i dont have to. .

i have a 2001 dodge dakota quad 4x4 with 16 tires the original rims. a dope at a tire shop said i couldnt go down to 15 rims for the winter due to all the electronics in 4x4. first dodge oem is either 15 or 16 inch tires---you cant tell me they change the electronics or tranny when they sell trucks with the original larger or smaller tires. is he full of it i would love to get smaller tires for winter with new steel rims---cheaper and better. and any recommendations on snow tires for massachusetts would be recommended. have bridgestone atv revos and they suck in the snow. thanks. i am confused as why you want to go smaller but you can use the rims from a 99 durango or dakota and what ever tire size you want with minimal impact. there is a wide variety of tread designs and sizes for 16 rims. i would recommend going with a 245/80r/16. i have a 99 durango and the stock tires have done fine in the snow i am in wisconsin with just about 300 pounds of weight in the back. the same should go for the dakota. ken .
