yes probably a loose gas cap. the light will reset after three successful engine cycles. one engine cycle is the engine starting from a cold start and warming up all the way into what the computer considers full closed loop operation. depending on your driving habits it may take three full days to auto-reset the mil malfunction indicator lamp. the code will still be stored in the computer until cleared or bumped out with newer codes when the memory gets full. also if the salesperson did not show you the proper way to attach the fuel cap when they delivered the vehicle give him some heck. you turn it until it clicks without pushing down on it at all. if you push down on the cap it will not latch tight and the code will come up. david thanks tbone. i will call my local dodge service this morning to find out but that sounds like an easy fix. if it is that curious to see if my warrenty covers that if it dont think i can spring for that fix. i will re-post to let everyone know what it was. thanks again for the help. brice that sounds like a bad gas cap. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving well i looked this code up on the inet it is p0440 evaporative emission control system malfunction any ideas anyone else had this code / problem. going to call my local dodge service center in the morning to report the problem. not really worried truck is new so i am covered. brice tom i did what you said and i got one code p0440. any ideas brice after driving a few weeks i noticed that the engine light came on after starting it last night and stayed it is now staying on. turn the ignition on-off-on-off-on. one or more obd-ii p codes will display on the odometer. write these down then post them here. .

thanks tom... too bad the recall is for 3500s not 2500s. i priced the headlight switch at a local dodge dealer yesterday....$94.00!!!!! the guy laughed at me when after a brief stunned silence i said holy shit! that better be the installed price. from what the dodge parts guy said the headlight switch is the most likely source of the problem... notorious was the word he used. i need to price the switch/wire harness assembly at a couple other places... no way im paying almost a hundred bucks for the damn thing. the direct wire solution is working but i only have low beams and i live way out in the middle of next to nowhere. it also rains a bit here in washington state so thats a definite added problem. somehow it seems that my low beams arent as bright as before but thats probably my imagination. i typically drive with my headlights on all the time since for some reason the average motorist seems to have trouble seeing that big ol 4wd truck heading at them. maybe cause its dark green and blends in with the trees lol i dunno but i feel way safer running with lights on at all times. thanks for posting the detailed instructions... now to sweet talk a buddy into doing it for me. ; this doesnt happen too often were both wrong. well technically all i said was that the recall wasnt just for diesels see that hair split right down the middle aint it i wonder if the additional marker lights on the 3500s is what was causing a current overload on the wiring leading to the melted connectors/fires then hmmm.... im trying to remember which terminal on my headlight switch connector was fried. cant remember if it was for the parking lights or the headlights. in any case we can agree that its just plain dumb to run lighting current through a switch and not use relays. too bad it took the addiiton of a computer-controlled lighting environment in the 3rd gens to address this problem now we have all sorts of new shit that can go wrong and leave us without headlights! im starting to think the wires from the headlights to an alligator clip that you attach right to the battery is probably the best method. course itll suck for those of us in jersey and the wipers on lights on law here .

i am looking for a aftermarket floor shift for a a518 torqueflite with od. i prefer a cable shifter but it is not necessary. i called b&m and they said they had none. but i have heard of trucks with a 518 with a b&m. isnt this basically a 727 with an od the configuration of the shift linkage on the 518 is no different than the 727 so any shifter that works on a 727 should work on the 518. most aftermarket shifters supply the correct shift lever for the transmission and the cable end attaches to a bracket that is attached with two pan bolts which have the same pattern whether 518 or 727. the cables supplied with the basic b&m shifters have a poor reputation when exposed to even a remote heat source take care when routing the cable. john .
